Thanks for watching! Don’t forget to check out the awesome narrators in the description! Consider this video a spinoff to the Old Disturbing Movies list, one that I plan to remake in the future. I really like old vintage stuff like this, and I hope to make more content about it. If you’re wondering why I’m not in this video, it’s because I was away working on that hour and a half long Top 30. Shoutouts to Emerist Media for helping me edit this!

What makes the story of “Swing You Sinners” even darker is that considering the fact it was made during the Great Depression, and people were *literally* starving to death, stealing a chicken (especially a hen) would be considered stealing a renewable food source because of the eggs, which was *extremely* vital to people (especially with families) during that time and was potentially-deadly to go without. I know it’s a cartoon and you can chalk a lot of it up to animation limitations at the time, but we only see the one chicken until it has babies when Bimbo tries to steal it (there’s a single scene that shows the inside of the coop is empty), and we never see the actual owner(s) of said-chicken, just the random police officer lurking behind the chicken coop. During the graveyard scene, the (vampire?) bat sings *”chickens* you used to steal,” implying Bimbo’s done this before (possibly *several* times). The chicken fighting back & taunting him in the beginning kinda confirms this too if she’s seen him take others before her. So not only was he stealing chickens, but he was possibly stealing food from a family’s mouth, and they likely called the cops to do a stakeout & put a stop to it after one of them (most likely an elder or a child) starved to death because he stole all their food. By that logic, if Bimbo’s thievery caused someone’s death (especially a child), then it’s considered indirect-murder (don’t know if there’s an actual legal term for that), and the torment & death sentence from the ghosts is kind of justified. Sorry Bimbo, but you *really* screwed yourself on this one.

Bimbo would probably be accused of extortion at the very least but given that this was the 30s, I'm sure the police would've taken him in whether he stole the chickens or not.

Reminds me of this old movie called The Mouse and His Child, based on a children's book. It is _dark_ , and all of the awful things the toy characters suffer throughout the movie really affected me as a kid. Come to think of it, there were a lot of stories I read as a kid that were from the perspective of toys. The Velveteen Rabbit, The Four Dolls, a lot more. They instilled in me a sense of empathy that often carried over to inanimate objects. It also made me realize how cruel the world can be when it thinks you're expendable.

"The Little Pest" is the scariest one to me, mostly because it's not even a far fetched tale, it's very believable to me that a child would get nasty like that after they get annoyed or don't get what they want, the most cruel types of humans are the youngest ones, they've got no sense of self-control or empathy, let alone sympathy, they're like wasps, they'll sting a victim endlessly until death or otherwise, sometimes it goes that far, usually it doesn't, even still it's a scary reality.

@DreamerFromTheDepths4 жыл бұрын
@@Rontlc3317 Empathy can't be taught, it's only learned through experience, that's why there's practically no empathetic people in the World anymore, it's because life is too easy. Survival isn't something we think about because it's as easy as breathing now, if it were not easy I guarantee that every child who is born would learn empathy because they would be born into a cruel environment, that being the wild. That's why the first humans got us here, if they were born with what we had they wouldn't have empathy either, the concept of sympathy can be taught, because you're only feeling bad for someone, you don't actually have to feel anything to be sympathetic you just have to tell them you're concerned. Sympathy is basically the white lie version of the truthful empathy.

These things for the most part aren't even as creepy or strangely moving as they are made out to be. It's almost silly how the descriptions get about these things. The one with the two brothers for example. They go on about uncaring abuse and such and can't seethe simple point of two slightly different age children bickering about spending time together and the older wanting to do his own thing and the younger being stubborn oninsisting that he go. Then purposely misconstrueing the mental images like the chair to their ends as well as the joke at the end about the water.
