Greetings from Scotland, Just discovered your show and it's rapidly becoming an obsession. I too, am want to, sing, comment on shots camera angles, and extrapolate of dialogue while watching movies much to the annoyance of my long suffering husband. So I feel heartened to know I am not alone. Have you guys seen Le Diaboliques 1955 Henri Georges Clouzot? I saw it when I was wee lassie and not only did it scare the bejeeez out of me but it sparked my love of European cinema. Keep up the great work!! Donna

Gotta agree with Matt in regard to John Wick. The dog wasn't the catalyst for the rampage...it was all about his grief over the loss of his wife. The dog was the last gift she could ever give him. It was an extension of her love for him, which he could never feel again. Someone took that away from him. If it was just an old dog that had been with him during his assassin years, I doubt the film would've had the same impact. Sure, John could've loved the dog greatly, but he wasn't IN LOVE with the dog. John's wife was his way out of a life of death and mayhem. A dog, alone, would have simply been a companion between jobs. No wife = no motivation.

NerdStoryteller Or it's a thin plot justification for a 'fun violence' movie.
Love "The Holy Mountain," mostly b/c of how it punches a hole in its own edifice like y'all discussed. I'm not as much into symbolism as I was when I was younger, but it remains very important to me.

This movie blew my mind, although at first I thought it was gonna be some kind of Hippy Mumbo Jumbo... in general it looks like an Un chien andalou as if it were a feature film. But I can relate to this movie a little more because there are various references throughout the film to the social/politic context of México (where I live) of the time it was made (even if the film is an ocean of metaphors and symbolism), and the scenes of people getting shot and killed are references of the "Corpus Christi Massacre" that happened in 1971 (something that was illustrated in the film "Roma"), but could be as well a reference to other shootings towards students in this period. If you look close to the victims getting shot, you can see that their arms are tied up and have their mouth taped, meaning they're being repressed.

I have been a fan of you guys and all that you do since middle school. I am now a sophomore in college and I would absolutely love it(and I'm sure thousand of fans would agree) if you guys watched "The Room" for us. It certainly is something I believe to be missing from the great Welcome To The Basement Collection! Cheers--Jordan

True Story : I actually saw this in my "film history" class during my Junior year of High School. It was a performing arts school and 10 in the morning, if that somehow helps make it make sense and seem a bit less creepy. Lunch was different that day. The class ended up being a class about "the films that made him want to become a filmmaker and how they led to him becoming a film teacher".

I think the movie was more about how we as people often get tunnel visioned on one thing, to the point where we ignore everything else in the world and thus miss out on life. I think that's the reason the movie ended the way it did. It was never about a spiritual journey or transcending. It was about living life.

I started binge-watching this in the gap between the last episode and this one. I love it, especially since I've seen very few movies (I think of all the ones that have been reviewed, I've only seen "The Great Mouse Detective"), and I'm embarrassed to say that I have no idea where to start with what I haven't watched. I want to become a film buff, and hopefully, I can start here. Is the "Dune" movie that we did get any good? I have seen "Twin Peaks" and "Blue Velvet", both of which were great, and I wanted to honor my late grandfather's memory by getting into "Dune", a series he loved.

Craig's sorely mistaken when it comes to John Wick: the dog's a gift from his wife from the grave - it's like she's offered him an extension of herself. As long as the dog is around, part of her is still alive. The fact that it dies immediately is important because it makes John snap completely: here he's grieving the person he cared about the most, and it tears him to shreds. Then he gets hope in the form of a connection, and it's squandered before his eyes. The dog being killed is less a dog being killed and more a major chapter of his life being forcefully closed and shat on.

I love this movie, Craig had about the same reaction to it I did the first time around. Having seen it at least 5 times now, I can tell you each time I notice something new, which for me puts this up there with the likes of Brazil and Blade Runner. You easily call it pretentious hippy mumbo jumbo, buy Jordowoski himself is just so damn sincere and driven and this movie is so well crafted that in a way it is everything 60s pretentious film makers were striving for. I hope seeing this prompted Craig to see El Topo, or if not I hope you consider it for a future episode because it is easily the strangest Western film ever created. I may have mentioned it in an earlier comment, but if you haven't seen it, do watch Written on the Wind I think it is totally up your guy's ally. Thank you for the entertainment!

Pluto is too a planet! You can even find pictures of it. I believe that it could just be a size discrimination because of it being the smallest in the universe. I mean for something that is so small that has Mountain ranges of over 11,000 feet tall, I say that it is a planet.
@donov258 жыл бұрын
It is in fact literally size discrimination. At some point the decision has to be made what sized object is no longer a planet. Pluto isn't even the biggest non-planet planetoid in our solar system. If you want Pluto to be a planet you have to bring those objects with it.
