This is a video about DID, correct?
@SurvivingEvidenceАй бұрын
@@TheRealArkness Our intention was to keep her mental illness vague and fictional, so as to avoid stigmatizing any specific illness and keep the film in the realm of metaphor. (In the film, they are told by a professional that it's "not DID".) That said, at the film festivals where this played, many people have told us they identified with the character's illness, having either experienced these symptoms in their own lives or recognizing it in friends and family. If someone with DID feels represented by this movie, I would not want to dissuade them from that.

Man, I really loved this movie...or atleast right until the end. For 25 minutes, this was a beautiful story of suffering with mental illness, and seeing how that illness affects those around them. Losing your self while also feeling at your most self-aware. This movie spoke to me on a deep level, as I actually do struggle with DID. Even though my illness affects me in so many negative ways, there are times that I understand myself the most because of it. It can have it's moments of making me feel bliss I couldn't ever imagine. But then, at that 25 minute mark, it went straight back to stereotypes. "Mental Illness Equals Evil! They are crazy and will kill you!!!" People with these issues have been fighting for years to make people not afraid of us. Most of us are just as afraid or more. And sadly, this movie just furthers the stereotype. I really did love the hell out of this movie and even cried several times. I felt like I was seen. But then was harshly slapped in the face when it turned to a murder scene.

I was disappointed by the final part as well. 💔❤🩹 Before that, I thought Tova simply died in bed when she stopped laughing. And although sad and unexplained too, it would not have been so unsettling to the theme.

Jeez, a lot of these comments really highlight ingrained cultural lack of understanding of mental health issues. So many people who, when faced with behaviour they can't understand, chalk it up to malice or even something supernatural. This IS a story about a dangerous mental health break through dissociation, the problems with understanding it, accepting it, and in getting decent medical help.
@rsweigart70Ай бұрын
Exactly! As someone with CPTSD, I can Definitely relate to what this feels like. One trigger can make a whole day dissapear. I've lost Years of memory, and family/friends just don't understand :( Also, Tova's acting in this was Totally Amazing!! Good job done by all involved.

It’s implausible that the psychologist wouldn’t have referred Tova to a Neurologist to rule out a neurological problem. After ruling out organic problems, the moral of the story is that we should return to the old system where people like Tova who can’t make responsible decisions in their own self-interest are involuntarily committed to mental institutions for their own good and safety. The boyfriend was a fool for being so passive in the face of her severe illness until it was too late.

Is this a true depiction of DID? If it isn't then it paints a very bleak picture of people who live with it every day. From what I have researched, you CAN live outside in the world without harming others. I guess I need to do more research. Amazing character study and acting.

The neuroscientist says she doesn't know what it is, and that it's "not D.I.D."
@TheRealArknessАй бұрын
It's not schizophrenia. She never said she saw things or heard things. She blanked out and didn't know anything. I don't think it has anything at all to do with schizophrenia. And if you pay attention to the video, you can see the personality difference. I know someone with schizophrenia, and I used to know someone with DID. The two things are very different. So even though the doctor said "not DID", I think it either is DID or something similar to that.
