I've loved each generation of this programme, right up to Lily Savage in 2002. She had a special sarcastic way of speaking to people. Just brilliant as was Les Dawson. All three presenters have been just brilliant in my humble estimation.

Absolutely WONDERFUL to see Barbara Windsor (ex-Peggy, EastEnders) on this episode. :) Very nice to see her in this vintage show!

You're so right, what passes for a 'celebrity' these days fall far short of the mark.

It's now 2023 and I actually said to a young lady in a shop the other day, 'What's your name love?', while I was looking for my wife and I was asking if anyone had seen her, after when I caught up with her, she said she had been talking with the young lady and I knew she had, after having learnt her name. Long story short, there was no objection.

Moira Lister did a radio series with Norman Wisdom, called "Robbing Hood". When I first heard it I thought it was Stephanie Cole.

You can't beat Les Dawson for this show however I'm a huge Larry Grayson fan so was fab to see this.

I love Dawson, one of my favourite wordsmith comedians, but I gotta say he was never at his best on 'Blankety Blank'. Like him or loathe him (Wogan could be a bit smarmy during this era, though got back much of his charm in later years) it was always Wogan's show.

a STRANGE SETUP...... the FIRST series of blankety blank shown in Early 1979...... Did NOT have the READY STICKS.....strange they introduced these in the second series shown LATE 1979............. but on the Third series in 1980...They were gone..... in favour of the illuminated name surround of the guests.... the idea they stayed with until... the shows end in 1990.....
@laymonite15 жыл бұрын
Wow this brings back memories. Surely this show is ripe for a remake in today's celebrity culture. With the credit crunch they could give the same prizes (except the chequebook). Wogan, Jason, Grayson and Windsor are fantastic and Isla St Clair looks phwoar!
@1ATV12 жыл бұрын
Isla st Clair and Larry Grayson , probably already in television centre recording the Gen game at the time and David Jason prior to having his funny bone removed .

Audio problems are either from a tape recorded on a stereo recorder keep dropping into mono, or trying to play an old mono tape on a stereo recorder.

@akava77 True, but the Ready signs were parodied occasionally, Roy Kinnear used a ZZzzz one episode, and in Kenny Everett's first appearance [where he bent Wogan's wand unrehearsed], he took the mick by putting up a massive READY sign.

Barbara Windsor has aged very well actually.

In the first series of Blankety Blank they did have lights that lit up each time the contestant matched with the celebrity panelist, from series 2 onwards the contestants fflipped the card over.

@Feisty1967 This probably got something like 20 million viewers, 'cause in Oct '79 ITV was still on strike for most of the month. Must go check...

This could just be a bad episode, but I much prefer the Aussie version in which this is based on. The aussie one had lights instead of the contestant turning over a card thing when it was a match.
