a true professional,class act. and a naturally funny man. all that knew Larry would tell you what a humble and decent human being he was,and never forgot his roots or his affection and respect for the public. The public will always remember Larry with affection. He came to fame later in life,and perhaps that's why he never took it for granted,because he had had to work hard for it.

I grew up a couple of streets away from where Larry lived, he was always out walking his poodle, and had a kind word for everybody. He used to have everybody in the doctor's surgery in absolute pieces, it was quite surreal! A very sorely missed member of the Nuneaton community, and of the nation at large. Our local council need to be asked; why they wouldn't allow a statue commemorating him to be erected, and why they continually down-play his connections to the town. We are proud of our Larry. The reasons rumoured demonstrate small minded attitudes of councilors towards his overt homosexuality. If you're a fan of Larry Grayson, get on to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough council, and give them some crap!! LARRY GRAYSON DESERVES TO BE IMMORTALIZED IN HIS HOMETOWN!!!

Yeah I bought this dvd compilation and only one episode of "Shut that door" remains, all the rest were wiped quite some years back. The rest of the boxed set features later sketch shows that he made back then. I much prefer watching him doing his stand up routine. Thats what he did best.

And I'm not saying he was a tortured artist but behind the laughs I'm sure he had his moments - and I always think of these guys brought up doing live theatre and then finding themselves performing to millions via the wonders of telly. It was also in the days before the red carpet was laid out for these performers and as for mental health and support ..well, EXACTLY!! They had to battle their nerves and the heat of the lamps and the audience literally on top of them - I reckon it was more akin to potholing than performing! Very talented, very determined, very brave - quite humbling.....

I remember Larry Grayson from my childhood so decided to revisit to see what he was like years later. I have to say that he was absolutely brilliant doing his thing long before the likes of Julian Clary and in an era where gay acceptance was zero. It was great to see someone just being themselves and fuck what everyone else thinks.

Such a gentle humour Larry had - self effacing, never nasty just wanted to be loved. We talk about how accepted gay people are now, he was accepted on his own way. Everyone knew but he was loved because he gave out love. He loved his audience, he loved his home town and was very much a man that gave to others. Sadly we live in a different world where people push their sexuality down your throat. I actually believe people in the past knew but didn’t really discuss it they saw how funny he was and laughed with him. Those gay comedians from the past were much funnier and far more skilled in keeping it clean.

There was quite a bit of negativity towards Larry and John Inman from the gay community in the 70's, as they reckoned there weren't gay men like this, but of course there were, and still are! For my money, both Larry and John did gays a great favour as they were accpeted by the general public, and loved in fact, which is surely better than being a militant and hated?
