So after watching your LP, I decided to play along with you through both the original Blaster Master as well as Blaster Master Zero. And something neat I discovered during my own playthrough: Those yellow walls that you open up with the corresponding conveyor belts can be manually pushed into the walls by SOPHIA ZERO once they're open. I haven't tested this yet but this leads me to believe that SOPHIA ZERO cannot be crushed, period. Yet another upgrade to your arsenal, essentially.

I always thought that spaceship was where the mutants came from, since they say it came from some sort of "asteroid" and took many years to properly spread its influence. Sort of like Leviathans from Metroid Prime. Likely, what is presently the Mutant Lord (who is established to have some intelligence) was the original pilot of the ship, but when he crashed it onto Earth it opened up the dimensional rift and he (alongside anything else onboard) became all corrupted and shit.

Even if she was fully mechanical, it would still technically be wrong to call her an android. Android means "in the likeness of man", as in male. The female equivalent is "gynoid", which means "in the likeness of woman". (Androgynous means "full of man woman", as a funny aside). It's kinda weird that the word "android" as been used for both male and female looking robots since the 1700's, but "gynoid" wasn't used until 1985. They could've called them anthroids instead, which means "in the shape of human". But I guess it's one of those things that started as male-only so they didn't think to make it gender neutral from the start.

Man can refer to the entire human race and not just a gender. So it makes sense the same can be applied to Android. Gynoid probably came about because someone was being very esoteric or was just trying to make their sexy lady androids sound unique while still being Technically true. But, as you may well know, the term Gynoid never got popular (despite Japan's attempts in various anime to popularize it during the 80's and 90's), and we continue to use the term Android to refer to the "Species" of humanoid machines and not the gender.

that final boss was like an inverse of what usually happens in these games, where you fight a rival or clone character who just has all of your moves but better. expect you're the one with the better moves. also, "android" in DBZ is somewhat of mistranlation, they're cyborgs over in japan and even then they don't really have mechanical parts per se but instead are restructured at a cellular level so they retain all of the qualities of being a human but none of the downsides, so maybe that's what eve is.

I wanna believe that Eve's android design is like a more advanced MEC Trooper from XCOM Enemy Within (no spindly metal limbs, no robotic voice, etc). It's the least machine-intrusive possible type of cyborg I can think of. The root-like look of the interior of Sophia with Eve inside made me think of fleshy roots at first, but if it could also control Eve and hold her body still, that is very very reminiscent of things that exist and do look like fleshy roots, in a way: _neurons._ This grisliness works well to offset the overworld look of the Mutant Core AKA a blue Yorpie hitching a ride on Sophia III's roof. Accelerator Blast finale, FUCK YEAH! Go big or go home!

Couple of other upgrades with Sopfia Zero; the limit for the basic shots on screen was upgraded from 3 to 5, and you can fire multiple Homing Missiles per energy point.

Ahhh, the Receiver. Soo, story time... When I first played this game in 2018-2019 ish, I downloaded it while waiting on the airport to visit my girlfriend. I had done this because I was curious if one of my obscure childhood games was on the e-shop, and was ecstatic to find out BM Zero existed. Naturally, I get it and get to Area 8 in one sitting. On the flight back home, I boot up the game on the plane, eager to 100% it. I then get to Area 9, having a blast. Throughout most of the game, I actively turned off the receiver to have the more nostalgic, exploring experience (with the map, but no hints on the receiver). When I get to the fizzled gate, I run around the room, confused. I spent a little over half a year before finally deciding to look up the solution. When I learned of it... I was floored. My reaction was very much the same as Jon’s. “WHAT?!” But this game is still one of my all time favorites, despite that. Everything is SOO GOOD OTHERWISE!!

Oh, also! Another comment, since it’s quite different from my big story spiel. If you try to Acceleration Blast Invem Sophia during the final fight, the final boss actually has brains and flies out of the way until you either cancel the charge or after you fire the laser. The only times you can hit it with the move is when Invem Sophia uses Accel Blast on their own (a move they didn’t get to show in Jon’s run), or after you eject Eve.

Not knowing about this game much before this LP, I am really impressed by how Inti Creates combined the original Japanese and American continuities (seemingly incompatible) as well as the obscure tie-in book Jon mentioned in the first episode. Seeing someone do this for Sonic with the old British continuity would be my dream, but that'll never happen (well, maybe in a fan game...)

This LP was a ton of fun to watch through. After watching this LP I think I solved a mystery from my childhood! On my 5th birthday I got a Gameboy Color. Alongside it I got Pokémon Yellow (2 copies of it actually) and one other game that I could not remember for the life of me except for a small bit, which I lost some time shortly after getting it. Seeing this LP made me realize that that game was most likely the Blaster Master game on the GBC. I vaguely remember a tank like the one in this game and being able to walk out of it and climbing down a ladder and I'm 99% sure it was a Blaster Master game!

I think you're right, and to be fair it makes sense in the lore of things. you're travelling through an unknown dimension, even by the standards of the previous areas you've been. you don't know what's a viable path and what's a path into the stars. think of it like paper mario in that sense in effect, Jason is trying to find where Sophia and Eve have gone, and the best way he has to find them is to follow the signal from them

Even though there are no achievements/trophies for this game on the Switch, you should likely do a few bonus videos such as Unlimited Mode, Destroyer Mode, EX Character Mode, and the Multiplayer Playthrough. EDIT: Of course, he promises to show those at the end of the video before I even see it.

The fact that Fred wormhole'd you to this alternate dimension area also helps clue you in, since it looks like dimensional distortion that prevents that door from being open, too. EDIT: 39:45 I'm sad you didn't do a Heavy Rain joke. JAAAAASON! JASON! XD EDIT2: Another explanation is that Kane and Jennifer may have built her, and consider her to be their daughter anyways. EDIT3: Seriously, Jon, thank you for this playthrough. I may have disagreed with your opinion on the original a lot, but it was incredibly enjoyable to have those conversations, and to watch this playthrough in general, as well.

Are you gonna be doing a Let's Play of Blaster Master Zero 2 & Blaster Master Zero 3 at some point????? At this point "BOTH" of "THIS" game's sequels are "ALREADY" out now!!!!! And i figured that "NOW" would be the best time to play the other 2 games!!!!!

Jon, thank you so much. I really like thorough LPs like this and Emiles LPs, so thank you for introducing me to Blaster Master Zero. I loved watching this LP very much. I hope zero 3 is awesome, and that I beat zero 2 in time for its release.
