I think it's a little known fact that part of the reason Blastoise is described as the shellfish Pokemon is because it's a reference to how some shellfish can push water through certain vessels in their body to do several things such propelling them through water and etc. The other reason is that the game developers were told to create sprites and creature descriptions before the artist (forgot his name) came up with the official designs. Hence that's why the gen 1 sprites are all over the place

Even though I’ve had some good battles with my Mega Blastoise in X, I have so much nostalgia and good moments with normal Blastoise that I have to say I like it more. Also, I can’t look at Mega Blastoise without noticing the Koopa shells on his arms.

Yes I know it's purely a cosmetic change and Sawsbuck has been terrible since Gen VI onwards but I really want to see which of Bambi's beefy brethren will rule the day (plus it's classed as an actual Form change in the Pokédex) then eventually maybe even Deerling (cute baby deer are the best!) Blastoise was my first ever lvl 100 pokemon. I had him and some pidgeys and rattatas, I only used him so it was super overleveled Good days :D

I prefer regular Blastoise. I remember going to Argos as a kid, just after Christmas in 1999 and getting Pokemon Blue, thinking just how cool that giant turtle/tortoise thing with massive cannons sticking out of its shell looked. For some reason I called my first Squirtle “Bubbles” and it grew into my greatest friend and ally as I journeyed through the kanto region. It’s sad that it never received a secondary typing when it got its mega evolution. Imagine if they’d given it the secondary steel typing and it’s defence raised to the level of a steelix (200 defence) coupled with its boost in special attack would make this Pokemon a serious threat.

I prefer regular Blastoise, reliable tank with it's own form of recovery albeit via a weather condition which can be risky. But pair that up with lefties or dare I say Shell Bell and you've got a decent attacker with self healing nonetheless. I prefer tanky, not too stally pokemon so I'd take regular over mega anytime.

Gotta pick mega just for the arm canons. Mega is a little bit of a one trick pony though, as it's ability doesn't really allow diversity. Normal can be run as a physical or special attacker eith builk or just a full on tank. So blastoise has the unpredictability there.
