Anyone else ever wonder how it is so many syllables can be used on one language while in another it's way less? Japanese: "U-ram-bu-da" 4 English: "Lamb-da." 2 Japanese "La-gu-na teh bu-do-de-du-joh" 9 English "Rag-na the blood-edge" 5
@Armegis6 жыл бұрын
I don't want to be that guy but, actually it's just **"ran-bu-da" "ランブダ"** (the "n" is represented by ン so it could kinda be 4) and **Rag-na=The=Bloodedge is "Ra-gu-na=Za=bu-ra-ddo-e-jji" "ラグナ=ザ=ブラッドエッジ"** ("ッジ" "ッド" makes the sound of a single letter which would be "jji" and "ddo") i didn't study it for too long so i could be wrong, also i don't want to act as the **actually** guy, and sorry if i misinterpreted you

Well that just brings me to the corrosive point of many players like myself not speaking Japanese, and that makes it difficult now that they fired all the english VAs and I'm sure you know every point I'd make after that since it's a songbird's choir and I'm just a single little tweet amongst.

I don't feel like this answer is complete, so I'll try to explain (I'm not really good at explaining though so bear with me) Basically, in Japan, words with foreign origins are written in their own form of Japanese called "Katakana". Say, if they tried to write down an English word in a novel or something, they'd use Katakana to do it. The thing with Japanese is that they don't have the same alphabet we do. That means there's missing letters. So some syllables just wouldn't make sense and not every Japanese person would be able to read it. To make up for this, they basically try to use Katakana to make it sound as close to the original as possible. This is why this doesn't just happen with BlazBlue, it happens with basically almost every form of Japanese media when they have to say something that comes from another language. It's fairly common in things like anime and video games from Japanese origins to hear this.

The literal translation for buttsubusu is something like 'to smash violently', so putting it into English ends up being a variant of 'to beat someone up quite badly'. There were a couple of other lines that were definitely tricky to understand, hopefully the meaning carries forward.

Ragna is such a tryhard edgelord, lol It's funny how many fans in the west assumed the japanese media was so "creative" because it was literally something new to us. But looking at it nowadays, there's literally a edgelord in every shonen anime in existence, including games of course. They literally repeat the archetype, they don't even try to disguise the cliches
@da-mf5hz3 жыл бұрын
Wait, but Ragna as a character isn't really an edge lord right? It's just that he looks like one. I'm not really sure if anime has countless protagonists that appear to be edgy but are normal folks.
@RRRRRRRRR333 жыл бұрын
@@da-mf5hz I don't know much about his actual character, but looking at the surface he just looks like the run-of-the-mill edgelord. And this archetype is present virtually everywhere in their media, same goes for the "waifu", the cute mascot, etc.. Because of the pandemic I read more of these shonen to distract my mind with something brainless, boku no hero, fire force, edens zero, etc.. they are all virtually the same thing, just like western comic books, blockbuster movies, etc... braindead content (which is not always a negative, especially if you just want to kill time)
@da-mf5hz3 жыл бұрын
@@RRRRRRRRR33 oh okay, yes he does look and behave like a generic anime protagonist, They're basically carbon copies of each other at this point. But Ragna gives me so much "12 year old deviant art OC" vibes. His design is so painfully generic. I mean his name itself gives an impression that he's a 12 year old edgy OC.
@RRRRRRRRR333 жыл бұрын
@@da-mf5hz Yeah, there is the good and the bad edgelords. Ragna seems to incline a little bit towards the bad side. I consider myself a corny individual, lol so I usually like the edgelord stereotype (hell, I finally played Devil may Cry 5 recently and I had a blast with Vergil, such a cool character)... but even for a guy like me, I think Ragna is just uninteresting. I remember I was trying to understand the appeal of Blazblue when I watched this video at first, I intended to play the game... but honestly, I lost interest
@da-mf5hz3 жыл бұрын
@@RRRRRRRRR33 yeah same here, I never really found Ragna to be a really interesting character, mainly cus he's basically another "edgy on the outside, nice on the inside" protagonist, and we've had so many of these kinds of protagonists in anime . If you show a character like Ragna to someone who doesn't know blazblue, they'll call him a generic OC for sure lol. There are good edgy characters like Vergil, but Ragan just doesn't come in that category.
