Even prior Bleach games would have some strange things like Rukia mostly fighting in gigai form, Rangiku having a literal ash cat attacking with her Heineko, and Hisagi's shikai being just a super attack for some reason. Likely due to us not knowing much about what the characters can do yet.

His bankai is slow. It won't have the second special move it will have the blast attack but because of how clucky it is Renji just sucks compared to the other characters. He is down at the bottom with Uryu and Sado.

honestly, it is mindblowing how well they are adapting these characters. understanding that Renji's extending ability which has a large range, isn't the same as gin's extending ability, cuz Renji uses it for large sweeping slashing motions while gin's style is specifically to pierce quickly are such fun and accurate portrayals while keeping them balanced. Since i saw Tosei's bankai literally limit the fov of the opponent, and soi fon having a move that autokills if she lands her butterfly twice. i've been just consistently blown away with each showcase.

So i was right they had a nightmare animating renji sword. But absolute Big W to them going through that hell to animating it. His past trailers had his sword not visible when it extends, it was only flashy effects covering it. There was scenes when he attack his sword extension was not animated, it was just frozen.

no, It is pretty much easy to animate Renji's bankai compare to a human model. The problem with Renji's bankai is how will they "fit it in the arena" and have it be constantly wholy visble on screen and how something that large can work as a weapon in the game. That is the big issue here and not really the animation part. Like Senbonsakura is more harder to animate since it involves more moving parts.
