The scene from the filler arc with the epic scene between Ichigo and mod soul (his name escapes me) always comes to mind when I hear this. Just the sheer fact Ichigo went so far to protect his friends and to try to save that girl (grr, stupid memory failing). Another scene that comes to mind is when Ichigo is fighting Tensa Zangetsu. The mere fact that Tensa turned away because it was too painful seemed to say just how much he did not want Ichigo to learn the Final Getsuga Tensho.

He knew that she stood no chance of defeating the soul reapers so instead of just letting her fight to the death he made it seem like he killed her. He hit her with a attack he knew wasn't fatal and predicted that the soul reaper or Orihime would heal her. As a result she (and her female arrancar team) ended up surviving and even showed up for a bit in the tybw arc. She is currently the Queen of Hueco Mundo.
