All of these things were huge in the war effort and break away from the ancient traditions that Yama was pretty much the embodiment of. Hats off

As awesome and badass Yamajii was, if you asked me to pick between Shunsui and him for Head Captain I would choose Shunsui without hesitation. Shunsui was built for this role. He does what needs to be done to get the job done. And he doesn’t care if he has to get his hands dirty or make a deal with the devil to do it. Fuck Honor. Fuck Pride. Fuck Tradition. You can worry about those things when you aren’t on the verge of fucking dying. Yamajii was strong but he wasn’t a good leader. Shunsui might not be the strongest Captain even now but he is without a doubt built for the role of Head Captain.

Aizen saw Mayuri as far too chaotic to be controlled. Unlike Urahara who he respected as an intellectual equal he saw Mayuri as someone he couldn't account for completely. Its actually a good thing he went to Hueco mundo instead of participating in Karakura town as Aizen would legit not had an answer for him. Not to mention Mayuri is a genius able to mould his abilities to suit the situation. He is the Batman of Soul society and should not be messed with. While there are those smarter than Mayuri, his response in the Quincy invasion no diffing most of the worst outcomes shows with prep time he is very dangerous.

The hogyoku is a part of Aizen now. It's something that gives ideas life. So Ichigo's theory was it stopped working partially due to Aizen's own desires of being stopped before he goes too far. So it's dormant. But it's still there. And Aizen is also that much more powerful for it. Atleast that's how I understand the end of Aizen 's arc.
