My issue was a bad power steering pump. Started out as a whine when cold, got stuck in mud once and then it started whining at all times, getting air in system, and leaking. I couldn't tell where it was leaking, seemed to be from reservoir cap or power steering pump so I just hoped for best and replaced pump which took care of my problem.

I replaced my Power steering pump, First my belt broke, after belt was replaced, power steering started pouring out trans fluid. I did the 5 cycles, 90 times, but with cap on, and it currently has a small whine @ ideal, and no power steering, and when I push on the brake, makes a loud whine, a little push back, but does stop Any advice ?

Great video with lots of useful information. Have a few questions, 1. At what point do you stop bleeding, if booster is bad/defective? 2. Do you recommend that all the lines be replaced due to the expose to excess heat from the fluid ?

I replace my power steering because it was leaking fluid. I notice the hose leaking fluid and wasn't sure if it was just the hoses or the pump so decided to change both and not take a chance having to come back and change one or the other. However even though it was leaking it was steering easy and breaking perfect although after I changed the pump I noticed the steering was harder and after following this procedure I noticed I lost my brakes now I have to really step on them hard for it to work and it takes a gorilla to be able to turn the steering on my truck now even after following this procedure and doing 60 Cycles. Too bad they took my old pump as a core otherwise I would go back and put it back on. I don't know what to do now. I don't think it's my booster I don't see it leaking and I know there's nothing wrong with my master cylinder either. Any idea what could have gone wrong and how could I fix this situation now?

Bought a used BMW about a month ago. Steering was quite firm, obviously not enough to "steer" me away, but definitely on the firm side. Anyway last night I was testing my brake booster, and doing a fair bit of brake pumping. Power steering was absolutely not on my mind at the time, didn't raise the front end and turn the wheel or anything. Today I get into the car, back it out of the driveway and immediately notice the power steering is way smoother, like night and day difference. Did I inadvertently bleed something from my power steering lines to bring about this change? Its the only thing that's plausible, I also used some techron yesterday but that can't be it...

Good thing the Ford FSM states that the hydroboost system is “generally self-bleeding”. What that equates to is; “go ahead and drive the car sensibly for the next 2 days to let things bleed out.”

Could a pulsing intermittent vacuum be used to draw the new fluid through? A slight vacuum may allow everything to fill by a combination of gravity and vacuum with the air being the easiest to move out I'm guessing. Actually a fluid change could likely be done that way also without any air being allowed in. Pull out the capacity amount, then look for clean fluid.

My Nightmare Started with a drip from the weep hole at the hydro boost/master cylinder connection. After countess puddles left around town and bottles of power steering fluid, It completely seized outside of school and was spewing PS fluid out the rack and pinion with boots full like a water balloon 🥺. Work done to fix it so far: 1) Replaced the seals inside the power booster 2) replaced power steering pump 3) replaced all seals/o rings within the rack and pinion and steering pinion 4) added filter to feed line 5) tightens all hoses After doing this I topped off the fluid and ran it while doing short left right turns. The noise and foaming gradually went away as i continued this until all was silent and no more bubbles. I then drove a half a mile and it was good right up until i parked. It seized up again and began leaking again from multiple spots like the rack the booster and a hose or two 😢😩. So now I am trying your bleeding method and I do hear bubbles escaping but its still leaking some fluid as I turn through the cycles. Any emergency advice from any knowledgable person may help this saga end 🙏🏽

Very possible that you've got an air leak - your sucking air into the system somewhere. No amount of cycling will cure that. Find the leak and fix it!

@@BillyJoeJimBob8 It turned out my power steering pump failed. Great video that I wish I had watched yesterday. I changed the pump and lines in my Duramax and didn't realize they had to be bled. I went straight to trying to flush the system and of course, the steering wheel had no power. I tried a couple of times and the engine was running for at least a full minute. Hopefully, I didn't ruin the new pump.

Ok is this procedure the same for Chevy as well? I only had to replace the pressure hose from hydro boost to the pump the dealership tech told me turn it lock to lock with the motor off 11 times and that will bleed it. They never said anything about pressing the brakes. Also how do you flush the old fluid out? One video on here says to disconnect the return line at the hydro boost and run a hose from the HB down to a drain pan then start the truck, slowly press the brake pedal and hold it then turn the wheel 12- 3 in both directions, refill pump as needed his was whining badly, keep repeating until you see clear fluid. Is this correct?

Yes. If it has a hyroboost unit. They are all identical. They are made by a company called Bendix. So the procedure should be the same.

Nicholas Boyd I typically leave it off but beware that a large air bubble escaping can bring fluid with it causing the fluid explosion some have experienced. Might lay a lintless towel over the fill neck just to be safe!

I have a 2005 Chevy Suburban that I just replaced the hydroboost on with a new one. I did not open any of the lines to the master cylinder and did not tip it. After the install of the new boost, I turned the engine on and turned the steering wheel and pushed the brake several times. The brake pedal is now squishy like there was is air in my brake lines. Could this be from not properly bleeding the air from the hydroboost? Please help.

So its funny after doing this dumb waste of time I ended up reading my Haynes book regarding my make and model and real simply says to disengage your ignition so u could turn motor over and it won't start and simply turn over and obviously have tires secured off ground but turn lock to lock while cranking engine until your reservoir stays at full level then put ignition back so it will start and done I did this and felt like I wasted 2 hours of my time when the way I just explained took five minutes tops and actually worked I guess in certain circumstances this works but not for me but the way I did seemed way more simple and did work thanks tho I have never heard of or seen anything like this I bleed my clutch slave cylinder on my 93 ford 302 5 speed by leaving cap off and pumping it seemed forever to bleed but it in the end worked

Confused... did you do the cycles with the reservoir cap off or on? When you start the vehicle, do you have the reservoir cap off or on? Don't you suck air back into the system with the cap off and also make a big mess? Mine splashed outside of the reservoir.
@Steeringproshop
@Steeringproshop 5 жыл бұрын
Jon Dize aka DIZEMAN your reservoir cap is vented. I recommend bleeding the system with the cap off. It won’t suck air in because once the air escapes the fluid weighs heavier than air. I also like to be able to see what’s going on inside the reservoir, it gives you a good idea how much bleeding is necessary.
