Ever wondered if there's a simple way to get more flex out of your rear leaf springs? With shackle relocation brackets you can improve the shackle angle and path of motion, resulting in smother and increased articulation and an improved ride quality. Check out this simple install which also adds 1.5" of lift when using your current shackle. We also discuss other options to accommodate no lift height change. There are a number of options out there for these but I found the ones I liked best are made by Ironman 4x4 Fabrication: ironman4x4fab....

iron man stuff is beef, but your shackle was hitting on the SRB until you moved it to the last bolt. if moving to the last hole wasnt an option due to shackle angle, you could have just trimmed the SRB with a spinning death wheel. you have quite a bit of flex for a low lift, i like that.

Didn't go through every commen, and it may have been mentioned, but you don't want your shackle to go straight vertical on max droop. Going straight greatly increases the chances of a shackle flipping over backwards which will destroy your leafs.

Looks like a good product. I like that it is adjustable. Just curious where you read that 45° is the optimum shackle angle. I assume this is at ride height based on the video. I am doing some research on leaf springs and am trying to collect some knowledge.

@DRTJon 3 жыл бұрын
I honestly couldn't tell you for sure, I've been told that a few times but don't take it as gospel definitely beneficial to do your own research! It definitely handles the best when it's not angled sharply. After things settled in it was too sharp of an angle and the handling was not ideal
@motownXJdad9565
@motownXJdad9565 3 жыл бұрын
thats pretty much the concensus on the XJ interweb world, likely found by trial and error. they also do not ride, or brake well when they are at 90 degrees either which is typical with extended shackles and no relocation brackets
@Fix_It_Again_Tony
@Fix_It_Again_Tony 3 жыл бұрын
The way I understand it is the flatter the angle the less the effective spring rate at the wheel (wheel rate). If the shackles are too flat then I would expect excessive body roll as wheel rate will be low. There is some diagram floating around that says the opposite, but I am pretty sure it is wrong. This guy explains it well with some examples: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJnUi558Z6lpqdU I do agree that this kind of thing is subject to some trial and error, like picking coil spring rates and making shim changes to shocks.

Great video John. Great amount of flex in the back of the Jeep now!. Looks like the torque masters rear locker is serving you well! How do you like it still? Have you had a chance to drive it on icy/snowy roads? I’m seriously considering it. I’m just concerned about driving up hills round corners on icy roads in 4wHigh. Your rockslides I see are welded into the sill. Did you make this John? Or buy bolt on rock sliders and then cut out the sills and welded them in place instead of bolting them on. You really have built a very good all round xj! Great off road performance. But still has good highway manors. Very well thought out build. 👍
@DRTJon
@DRTJon 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliments Russ. I love the locker still. I just drove it in snow covered roads we had a storm last week the plows couldn’t keep up with and I drove for 12 hours that day all over the region. I did not get stuck until the end of the day when it was 20” deep and packing down to ice under the tires and then all it took was 2 minutes of shoveling to get free. I drove highway, back roads, windy hilly roads, gravel roads and dirt trails in the snow and was blown away with the performance. I did not need 4WD high on the street but at times was more comfortable with it. I did feel the Jeep wanted to track straight as an arrow (but not making it impossible to steer) under acceleration in 4 hi but coasting or lifting the throttle it would take corners exactly as expected. I never wished the rear was open that entire day and I never felt the Jeep behaved unexpectedly or poorly. Very impressed as I fully anticipated snow would be the biggest drawback to this setup.

I'm currently running a 3" RC lift with shackles that are at a horrible 90 degrees straight up and down. The rear end is a back breaker and I'd like to get a little bit of forgiveness. I like the ride height (if anything, would go lower) and want to use relocation brackets to get a better shackle angle. BUT I'd prefer not to go any higher. Here's my question: The regular relocation brackets look much easier to install, but they should add height. Will this height be offset by the fact that my decreasing shackle angle (more horizontal) will shorten the overall lift? Should I go with the no-lift versiob? If I'm currently at dead level and use the no-lift to decrease the shackle angle, won't that be a net decrease, and bring the rear down below the front? I have to daily drive my jeep on sh*tty nyc roads. I need a little more forgiveness without going any higher.

I’m running a 3” RC lift with add a leafs and then bilstein 5100s and 31” KO2s. The front was about 3.5” of lift with the kit and the rear with the add a leaf and saggy springs settled to 1.25” of lift. I did longer shackles from rough country on the first setting and it put the rear to about 4.5” of lift and 3.5” in the front and it looks level now the gap from tire to fender is the same front to rear. It’s a nice budget lift but i recommend going with the full leaf packs and also keeping rough country shocks. I notice a very little difference when going to 5100s but it wasn’t a 400$ worth difference. You might want to do a new trackbar preferably a adjustable one. Also i’m going to run 33s and regear pretty soon with lockers because i ahve plenty of clearance when i cut my fenders. For the most part you can’t go wrong with most rough country stuff. I would definitely recommend skyjacker or rubicon express before rough country lifts.

I always just say consistent content is the most important. I mean that in terms of the quality and production value of your videos, the relation of content from one video to the next, and also in terms of frequency of posts. If you post one video every 3-5 months on completely different topics and it’s roughly edited with no real story to follow, you won’t get much traction. But if you regularly post quality video that is on the same general topic each time, you’ll gain an audience. Hope that helps.

@@DRTJon If they are 32.5" then are you sure you didn't mean to say 285/70r17? According to the online calculator I used, a 285/75r15 tire should measure out to be roughly 33.8" while the more common 285/70r17 comes out to 32.7". Thanks. I have the same wheels but want to get roughly a 33x11.5 equivalent tire.

Have you encountered the Shackle contacting the SRB on compression? my shackles are getting chewed up from hitting the bracket (different brand) wondering if i need to try a different shackle

if your angle is correct, just trim the SRB so the shackle clears on compression. doris and daddy offroad has a great vid on it

@@bcivic88racer that would depend on the brand and thickness of the metal. ironman4x4 are super beefy. i think in the vid i suggested they trim RC SRBs and they were fine. if you re watch this vid on Jons XJ his were hitting too until he moved the bolt to the last hole.
