There can never be enough tutorials as we all learn differently and even when watching someone go over the basics again there's a chance we might see something we didn't know before so my hope is that you'll continue documenting your journey into Blender.

I've watched several tutorials on section methods and none of them mentioned that you can click on different areas of a face to control the direction of the face loop selection. It's super simple and very useful! Thanks for the tip!

I've been using blender as a supplemental tool to other 3d softwares for over a year and this is one of the best tutorials I've seen. I actually learned several new skills here and am very grateful for this video and your style of teaching. Thank you.

Thanks, this is a great tutorial. There's so many video's out there that claim to be for beginners that are almost impossible to understand when they're just realing off their morse code of 'left click, ctrl A, press S, drag out, ctrl M'.....it's important when learning to understand what the short cut keys are actually short cutting to and the majority of the time, they totally leave out the multi and path selections. I had no idea how they were selecting a ton of edges together to apply a bevel, now I know thanks to you. ps, you have the ideal voice and articulations for tutorials.

There's also Select Linked which is neat. Select a face/edge/vert and hit L on the keyboard - it selects all the attached faces/edges/verts. Or you can hover the cursor over a face, hit L and it'll select the linked faces. Also, you can set constraints to select link materials, uvs etc

So great to see you using Blender. Welcome to the club. I know the many shortkeys are a challenge but you will get there. I have one more for you, to reset the 3D cursor press Shift+C That resets the cursor to the world origin and also brings all the objects in the view.

Wow!!! I downloaded Blender 2.93.5 about seven and a half weeks ago. Lately I've been having difficulty selecting face loops to go in the correct direction. You can probably imagine how much time I've spent following the most intricate of loops to make sure I get every last face!!! Just WOW, thank you soooooo much for this simple explanation!! You have a new subscriber on this alone, thanks again :-)

1:10 also you can press Alt+G and it'll reset all coordinates of the selected objects. Same works with R for rotation and S for scale.

Great video thanks for posting. I come from a 3dmax and Maya background and have finally decided to give Blender a try. I'm really digging the selection options in Blender. The loop selection is pretty intuitive now that I know it matters what region of the face you're selecting. The one thing that's disappointing is not having an option to change selection culling. Having to toggle xray everytime I make a selection is driving me crazy since 99% of the time I want to select both front and back faces.

@my_yt_ Жыл бұрын
For horizontal loop selections (including inside faces in xray mode, very handy) do this. Hover the selection cross to the left or right of the middle of a vertical line (in Edit / Face Mode), with the ALT+SHIFT down (first selection just ALT needed), until you have all of the horizontal faces selected you need. (Blender 3.3 tested)

glad to see you doing this. 2.8 got my attention as well. really a game studio could dump costly and manipulative autodesk and go totally blender and save tons of money and have way less hassles. the smart studios will do this. better sculpting and udim support are coming soon along with many other features as this just keeps going. 20year max maya guy here. im finding blender more fun to work in.

very helpful, your voice is calming, I watched this video because I have an issue, it seems that blender doesn't completely deselect all, in the outliner you will find the mesh icon of the last selected and deselected object is still grayed(Active) and when I go to the shader mode to try select materials and then "select linked by material" the last deselcted object changes its material as if it was selected, also this confuses me while modeling because I have one object selected while the changes happen to the other object with the grayed icon in the outliner.

I saw many of them used that edge split and select but I don't how, I asked them but not replied. Can you please tell me how, if possible. Thank you

Hi Wes. Finding all of your vidoes fantastic. Do have a seperate question about getting vertex colours onto models in bledner. I downloded your SpiderBot for your substance painter tutorial but I cant reverse engineer how you got vertex colours so nicely onto the model. Any bledner tips for this? did you do this before you merged all the individual parts? or is there some trick to do this once all the parts have been merged? thanks
@wes.mcdermott Жыл бұрын
Thanks much! So glad you like the videos. What I use in blender is the Set Vertex Color - Shift + K menu. In Vertex Paint mode, I use the Vertex Selection option to select vertices then Set them to the color. I will bounce over to the Object Mode to use selection tools, then go back to Vertex Paint mode and then use Set Vertex Color. In the Spider Bot, I did have individual parts. I don't think I merged it down to one mesh. But even if you do use one mesh, you can go into Object mode and make selections then go to Vertex Painte mode and Set Vertex Color. For me, the key is going to Object Mode to make my vertex selections : )
