A year ago, I decided to give Blender a try with no art/3D experience and used this tutorial. Unfortunately, this was the point where I gave up; I think because of the icing clipping. However, 8 weeks ago I decided to give it another try but, ironically, using a much more advanced tutorial (modeling a character, which is what I _actually_ want to do in Blender). Then I came back to this tutorial and everything just "clicked"! Since then, I've successfully rendered 2 donuts, a chair, and even the ANVIL using your tutorials. I've also animated a flaming sword with character using another tutorial. And just last week, I rendered a bedside table with textures & lighting, using _only reference photos_ and what I've learned (although I did have to Google troubleshoot lol)! Progress! So if anyone reading this has given up, it's OK to "take a break" and come back--even for a year or longer. Just TRY to come back. And, if you're like me and need to feel "passionate" about what you're learning, consider seeking out a Blender tutorial that teaches you what you're passionate about as a "starting point", no matter its skill level. Even an advanced tutorial has stuff to teach you.

I’ve given up the donut tutorial so many times over the years - this time, I was determined. Instead of the donut, I started with the same CG Fast Track tutorial, and slowly, I am working on a personal 3D project, watching a bunch of guides and am working on, for once, finishing the donut tutorial. I was, as you said, inspired to learn because I started with the fire sword 😊 Let’s hope in a few months or years of time, I hope we can both become Blender “masters”

You could always just keep a copy of your .blend file that is up to date with the tutorial and use another copy to play around yourself. The main thing you'll have to watch out for is that the old tutorials will tell you about particle systems, but I expect Andrew might want to drop that part and use geometry nodes for the sprinkles instead, so that part will be most out of date.

It's also a japanese brand and I'm amazed by the insane quality of their products given how cheaper they are. Some of their styluses need to be USB charged, I was worried about that. But truth is I'm able to use their pens daily, without charging them for months, so much that I nearly forget that they need to be charged. Very, very long lasting batteries in there, Great quality screens, responsivity, precision, etc. Great products ;) Anyway thanks for your tuts. I'm an artist learning the software, thanks to your videos, I am. As an artist....when materials drip and droop they do so from pulling material away from directly above the drip. For the point of realism, above an inflate(ponding) there will be deflate(thinning). In most cases, the material will become more translucent in that area. A glazed honey donut is likely one of the best representations or simply study rain on glass. Glazing doesn't evenly distribute. I'm jumping way ahead of myself in learning but shouldn't the glazing be done in a x% transparency/density? Where it becomes thinner, it will actually become darker not because of shadow but because you see more of the darker donut underneath the icing.

So if you are trying to inflate the donut (icing excluded) and for some reason it does the opposite and deflates. Go to edit mode, select a face of the donut, then select all faces with "L", then press "Alt" + "N", then click "flip", and then it should inflate the donut in sculpting when you have the inflate setting turned on.

Me and many of us have started Blender journey after watching your Donut Tutorial series. Some might have even became pro by this time and might not need to watch this series. But, I think by watching this new series even though not needed will be like giving a tribute to Blender Guru!!! I am watching this series though I do not need it, just to thank you for all the knowledge you shared and the motivation/inspiration you gave.

Same here, did the first one in 2017. But there's always new tricks and tips you may found in this series, even when you already know 99% of the workflow

Since last time when I did the donut that way it gave me too many polygons for my tastes, this time, instead of applying the modificators and sculpting, I used vertex maps on the solidify modificator. A few tweaks here and there, and I got a low-poly icing with diverse thickness and appropriate drips. :)

I remember a long time ago you recommended a drawing tablet. I finally got one and it makes the sculpting part of Blender sooooooooo much easier. I picked up the Wacom Intuos (non pro) and it works great :)

Forget 3d modeling, the real skill here is being able to work and tell a story at the same time.

Hey, I just wanna say keep doing what you're doing man! I've been a Modeler on a Game making platform called, "Roblox" I recently quit after modeling on it for a long time to start on Blender. I've been following your steps and, boy it sure did help a lot! In advance, thank you.. Keep doing this man! You're the best! PS, I started like 30 minutes ago and made it to this part. I'm actually impressed how so far it helped me model a pizza!

That little ring in the middle is the donut rising as it fries like how bread bakes in the oven and that pushes that middle part of the donut out of the oil on both sides
