this is possible in previous versions of Blender too. you need to subdivide the mesh ..Use Cloth modifier on it and set the gravity to 0 and add a force field. But good to know its a actual feature now in blender 2.82.

Does that force field apply pressure evenly to all of the object's interior volume, even with complex shapes? (I've only seen that technique used on very simple stuff in tutorials, e.g. to make a pillow out of a squashed cube.)

Hmm I haven't used smoke in blender, but what about first shaping the smoke and running a simulation, then played backwards it looks like it forms a shape (if this was the goal?)

Anyone wanting to really complete the look might want to check out the videos in the "Inflatable Objects" series by Greyscale Gorilla. They're for C4D, but the ideas for creating the seams and creases are worth taking a look. No problem applying the same in Blender.

Hi Nathan, I tried this tutorial, and made some tweaks, first i set the factor to zero, and the ballon deflated, then set it back to a vlaue and set the gravity (Field Weights) to zero, it inflated and flew a little. The problem is i couldn't animate it, can you help me? Update: I found a work around, I applied the cloth modifier when it's completely deflated, then added another one, baked it, and it worked, but the cloth is wrinkled. Any suggestions? Thanks

Very cool! Will 2.82 also have an improved rigid body system? I need the "in place" feature like in C4D where every rigid body always tries to get back to its intitial position when colliding with another object or being dragged by a force. It occurs to me that this feature might actually make it easier to design plush toys in Blender! Regardless of shape, now you can simulate how a given model will deform from being stuffed, adjust the starting geometry until the result looks just right, then use the UV tools to figure out what shapes to cut out of the flat fabric.
