This is the first thing I've ever made in blender and my god, as someone with 0 artistic skills + 0 knowledge of blender, this was quite fun to follow (even though it took me way longer than I'd thought it would)

Use Shift F to go into fly mode and W,A,S,D to move with Q,E for up down. Mouse wheel to change flying speed. Left and right mouse to confirm or cancel. This helps a lot for getting the camera in place.

To make your trees grow straight up. In the particle system, click Advanced , then in the new section Rotation that appears, set Orientation Axis, to Global Z

Something you may find useful for the rotation of the trees - rather than manually adjusting the instance object, you can check 'advanced' in the particle settings and then check 'rotation' - plenty of options within there. Helps if you have lots of objects to reference too so keeps it all clean.

This is excellent! You probably want to make the trees point straight up instead of normal to the face and decrease the size randomness a bit, but considering how little time it takes, this is incredible!

If you want to have brown stumps, select the faces on the "trunk" part of the base tree, go to materials, create a new brown one, and click assign. Make sure you have the faces selected when you do that!

@discreet_boson
@discreet_boson 4 жыл бұрын
For camera view, click the camera button in top right or 0 on numpad. Click n for the menu, go to view, enable lock camera to view. Just use shift+ middle mouse button to drag and middle mouse button to pan. Shift + f for walk navigation, use wasd. In 2.8, shift f is not the default shortcut. Go see a tutorial for that.

Great tutorial as always! ❤ Can I ask why you added the icosphere and subdivided it so it looks like a sphere? wouldn't be easier if you just added a sphere?
@discreet_boson
@discreet_boson 4 жыл бұрын
For topological reasons. It doesn't apply here but is a good habit for later. In edit mode, icosphere has even topology everywhere. A uv sphere's topological faces are squished at the poles and larger in the middle. This makes it hard for sculpting/modeling later

Hm. I'm loving your tutorials, but things seem to be different a lot of the time. For instance, you right click to change to shade smooth, I try it and it just moves the little crosshair. My menu system also doesn't look as efficient as yours (my object options are always on the left, rather then popping up contextually as they seem to do for you!). Do you have a video anywhere on how to set up a better workflow? That would be really helpful! Great videos though! Very easy to follow. Only frustration is some things don't seem to work the same as they do for you, even though we are using the same version of Blender (which has nothing to do with you).
