I've used 2D drawing programs for years, and I've found switching to a new program makes life so hard because you have to relearn where all the shortcuts and buttons are. Learning Blender is a bit like that, but with so many new and extra steps that it can feel overwhelming. Your tutorials are making it feel a lot more probable that I can learn the program. I know how to model and sculpt irl, it's just moving things in a 3D plane from a 2D control scheme that I'm having difficulty with. I just have to memorize the keystrokes to remember to grab and move along just one axis. My normal way of learning is "press all the buttons, see what every setting does" but this program makes that VERY impossible. This series has made it feel possible for me to at least make my fursona to play in vrchat though, so thank you for that. I can't afford to commission anyone so this has been a wonderful guide. Whether I actually put in the time and energy to go through with said project is... another thing unrelated to ability. Here's hoping!

Hello!!! Not sure if you still are responding to comments on this video but m having a slight issue! Specifically with the 40-41 minute mark. I've followed all the steps and made sure that my models entire head was red and apart of the vertex group that you created for the head but for some reason my head is not moving with the body when I try to rotate the whole body the head is not attached to the bone and I can't figure out what the issue is!!

I can't move parts like you when painting to test them or paint them at a better angle. It says ' Cannot change pose when 'Rest Position' is enabled '
@Finnchezbo Жыл бұрын
How do you make it so u can pose the model while in weight paint mode? I have to just switch to pose mode instead of doing what u do.
@ElegantHope10 ай бұрын
First off, go into Edit and uncheck "Lock Object Modes" if it is checked. This can prevent you from doing the following. 1. Select the skeleton first, you can use this either by clicking the skeleton OR going into the menu in the top right that lists the meshes, skeletons, etc. in the scene. 2. Then hold down shift and select the mesh you're weight painting the same way you selected the skeleton. Now the mesh and the skeleton should both have outlines, with the mesh having a lighter colored outline. 3. Go into weight paint and toggle on x-ray mode. You should be able to alt+click on bones to then move the bones around like you're posing them using the hot keys or moving/rotating/scaling objects. If you need to reset the pose without using CATS, then you can just select the skeleton, go into pose mode, select all of the skeleton with A or Select > All, and then going into Pose > Clear Transform > All

Some of my bones deform the mesh oddly when I rotate them, even though I set up the vertex groups neatly and all the other bones seem to not mess the mesh up so badly.. no idea what to do to fix it, feels like I've tried everything (removing weight paint, checking vertex groups, resizing things, everything is at 0 - 0 - 0...)

Great info! I did notice though that this video appears to be labelled "Part 6". Since the armature video is Part 6, I think this one's supposed to be part 7, unless I missed something.

Can someone explain how at 5:04 she clicks on the finger that shouldn't move with the other one & and it just resets?
@ElegantHope10 ай бұрын
so the weight paint for those bones of that finger is also found on the mesh for the other finger. she's using the subtract brush on that misplaced weight paint to erase it, so that it no longer is weight painted on the mesh for the wrong finger.

I believe I've done all the weight painting correctly, but when I do the checking over the rig by grabbing the parent bone, it just rotates the whole thing, is there some setting I need to turn off?
@grandgentleman4828 Жыл бұрын
By parent bone, I mean the hip bone, it's supposed to be the first parent since it's the first one we made, correct?
@grandgentleman4828 Жыл бұрын
Nevermind I didn't notice that you had all the bones selected. I was actually also having trouble getting the hip bone to move by itself without moving the whole rig but actually figured out that was due to all the bones directly connected to the Hip bone having "inherit rotation" checked in relations.

9:53 soooo after doing this all day and yesterday and seeing as I gave up on this 5 months ago and decided to get back at it yesterday… I give up again.. see you in a couple months TwT (both shoulders move together I don’t know how I managed to do that
@ElegantHope10 ай бұрын
If you ever come back to this OR if anyone else has this issue, I ran into this issue where my right shoulder was moving the left pinky. there are a couple reasons for what might be causing this: A. The shoulder OR any bones parented/attached to the shoulder has weight paint on part of the mesh that is mysteriously moving. Check the shoulder, upper arm, lower hand, hand, and finger bones and make sure none of them have weight painted. You can erase/remove weight paint using the subtract brush/setting. B. The weight paint for the bone on whatever part *shouldn't* be moving has weight painting on the part you're trying to move. Go through those bones on that side of the body and see if there's any stray weight paint on the area you're trying to move with the shoulder bone. If there is, erase that paint. C. The bone parents might be messed up. Parenting tells Blender that that bone is attached to/owned by another bone. You can select a bone, right click it, and click 'Parent > Clear' OR use Alt + P to clear the bone's parent. Then you select the bone you want to be the parent bone, and then the bone you want to parent it to, then right click 'Parent > Make' OR press Ctrl + P. And remember, the order you select bones, skeletons, meshes, etc. in Blender matters. The first thing you click will be the target of the action you're applying to the second thing you click. :) D. Double check your names, Blender is very picky about what you name the parts and incorrect names can be confusing to it. Like make sure all of your left side bones have Left/_Left in the name, and vice versa. And the 3D model's left side is going to be on your right when it's facing forward at you and vice versa. -BONUS tip!- To aid with weighty painting and avoiding A or B, you can also change the color of the weight paint in order to make it easier to tell if it's actually at the value of 0: In Blender ~2.79: File > User Preferences > System > Custom Weight Paint Range In Blender 2.80~: Edit > Preferences > Editing >Weight Paint > Use custom colors. Then in the custom range set the leftmost marker's color, which is for the weight paint value of 0/the blue you typically see. And then you set the rightmost marker the color you want for the weight paint value of 100/the red you typically see. After than you can add as many node/markers you want in any color, though I recommend putting a high contrast color that doesn't match what you set for 0 right after 0. It'll let you see if you've truly got the value set for 0.

"it should mirror on the other side" it does not. i have my settings like urs, doubled checked, and it does not. i want 2 die EDIT: what is the purple stuff that comes up befree you do something new? what - what step are you doing in between that? what are you altering? why does it vanish after the purple happens? why does new stuff appear when you click different parts of the body? i'm 4 minutes in and i'm lost and ready to cry irl

Hey I just figured it out myself, idk what hotkey shes using but you gotta click the lasso on the left side and select a bone then paint and then go back to lasso and select you're next bone. I'm not sure how to help you with the mirroring as it is working fine for me I hope this helps you do it with some less stress ♥ EDIT: I noticed that if you click on the x for axis when doing the symmetry in the little tools section it actually prevents it from working, just had it happen to me hope it solves you're issues!

Hey there! If you’re still experiencing the same problem i think i can help! My rig at some point had the opposite hand going the same direction of the hand, check that the name is correct on the bones associated with the part affected. For me, the incorrect naming of my hand bone didn’t allow the weight paint to properly apply over as it’s own in a way. Once i fixed the bone name it fixed it’s self up. Hope this helped, have a good day! Edit: also! Play with the names if need be! For me i had mine named something like L_Palm but it didn’t work till i put Palm_L, making me go through four or so renames till it decided to work with me. This is also known as ‘naming conventions’ in blender. Looking into it may help ^^
