Hey, thanks so much for this video information - it's super helpful. I'm wondering also, do you know anything about speeding up the VSE's viewport playback when editing strips consisting of scenes from linked files (as opposed to editing strips of video or images)? I'm editing scenes from linked files and some of the playback is super slow - I've looked into proxies, but those are just for editing video and image strips apparently, and I've tried things like playing with resolution and increasing memory cache limit but still, very slow playback. Anyway, this video of yours might at least be part of the puzzle but I was just wondering if you know anything about this other stuff too - I'm having a lot of trouble lol

that's a bit tricky. unfortunately I'm somewhat new to blender's VSE, I'm spending most of my time just figuring it out as I go for my videos. However I have messed around with using scenes as strips and thought to myself not too long ago that the best method might be pre rendering the scenes into image sequences before importing them so that they won't lose any quality but still run smooth. That should work, but depending in the specifics of what's in the scene that might not be a good workaround. not to mention losing the ability to go back and change anything later on without having to re-render everything every time you do. I'll have to look into this and see if i can't find a better way.

I think that in what you’ve said here you really hit upon the conundrum, which is that scenes as strips would be so incredibly useful if there weren’t the lag, because that way you’re building the scenes and already in the editing phase all at the same time and can make changes as necessary without having to go back and render things all over again to import as image or video strips. But also to be clear, scenes as steps does work pretty well as it is, it’s just that for whatever reason I’m running into some lag here and there with certain strips or scenes. But I’d love to hear whatever you come up with if you manage to get around to it! It could be super useful if it can be worked out - in the meantime, thank you again 🙏🙏

Most open source software have at least one frustrating issue which takes ages to find a work around. It's really not worth it lol even if they are free of charge. What about the overwrite checkbox? It gives warning that it is not checked and says 'skipping'?
