For people who have problem with detaching ball. Before creating sphere you should SELECT THE BOTTOM CHAIN IN EDIT MODE AND THEN CREATE THE SPHERE, so in that case it will be the same object and won't fall apart when you animate.

Anyone who has the issue I had with the 3D cursor not working. Select the top chain, then while holding shift select the rest of the ball and chains, after that press period or “.” Like the initial comment said, but I clicked “active element”. This is because the first chain you selected is considered active, so when you select everything else and click active element you are setting the top chain as the pivot point.

short tuts are awesome! It'd be awesome to have a series of short videos with cool experiments to get noobies (like me) into blender. :)
@BraedenLaverty11 жыл бұрын
Short tutorials are good for little experiments, but the real learning happens in the longer ones. Boring or not, the extra content is what makes you learn the intricacy of the program. I will be the one to argue for not getting rid of in depth videos. I am sure that after a few dozen short ones, those users will long for videos that do more than just scratch the surface.
@GiovanniLucca8511 жыл бұрын
So the ideal is to make long tutorials for begginers and short quick tutorials for intermediates and advanced users... I believe that begginers are well served with content... just go to Blender Cookie or even you tube with "Blender Begginers" and you'll have a lot to chose from... Now for advanced users with solutions for complex tasks we don't have many options...
@r4microds11 жыл бұрын
It's not that i dont enjoy long tuts. They're awesome, but it's nice to have a short one every little while just to keep us motivated while we wait for part2. I mean Andrew's tutorials that are in parts can had two weeks or so in between. When you're new, you either use those two weeks to polish up your skills or look for someone else's tut.

To use small or fast objects, increase "Steps per second" in the "Rigid Body World" tab to something higher than sixty (500-1000). It determines the "granularity" of the simulation, that is, the time increments between simulation steps. If it's too low, an object may pass through another object without the simulator noticing, because they never intersect. If you use small objects, time-steps need to be small, too. That means many steps per second. This will eliminate nasty fiddling with the timescale to get it somewhat right.

Under the Texture Paint you will see a ball with a cross and a dot. Press on it and choose 3d cursor.

I extended the animation length to 500 frames, but it stops everything at 250 amd stands perfectly still until 500 then resets

you probably found ur answer since its been 2 yrs.. but maybe for the rest who reads this, it could be changen in scene > rigid body cache and change the end frame.. it works for me tho :D

Chain links disconnect among other issues in 2.8. Edit: still works fine in 2.79 tho !

Nice tutorial! Instead of using COPY FROM ACTIVE thingy, you can just set the first link to be a 'mesh collider' and then copy links from there...all will be setup as 'mesh collision'. Maybe do the texture as well before copying first link? You ROCK Andrew!

Thanks Just did this in Blender 2.8 and it worked really well. Had to hunt for the rigid body settings but found them in the object drop down - Rigid Body.

Nice! Did you just uncheck the dynamics on the upper chain link? When I do this the rest of the chain still falls through. Is there something I'm missing in 2.8? Also the chain explodes, when it reaches the ground altough I increased the size and weight.

For some reason I can't select a single link. I can only select two at a time. How do I fix that?

+Mark Snider same here, I was wondering why, thanks for the tip

you may have been duplicating the chain in edit mode. do it in object mode.

I checked off the "dynamic" setting for the top link, but the second link passes right through it instead of stopping the the second link in the chain, does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in Advance

Just for fun....set the camera on top of the stack. (Key frame location & rotation.) Near the end of the animation, move camera below all the cubes, point it up at the mess. (Key frame again.)

Awesome tut. Took me a few tries but I learned what I did wrong or did not do. You learn more from your mistakes than not making mistakes.
