Exporting a mesh to Substance Painter 3:38 Texturing in Substance Painter 7:53 Shading and rendering 31:09

Bonjour Julien.

No, you dont need a single material to export to substance painter, in fact, its recommended to have several materials for the parts you are interested in. No, you dont need to have a single mesh. In fact, its recommended to split the mesh in several objects (specially and mostly when texturing hard surfaces) so you can apply the normals in each part separatedly and avoid wrong calculated normals and colliding rays. And this is a common practice when using substance painter. In this case, the mesh is basically composed by smooth angled surfaces, so you are not going to have many problems calculating the normals and baking. But in other cases where you have holes and really close geometry to each other, you need yes or yes to separate those parts to get good normals and baking. Just saying..

Hi Julien. Thanks for the nice tutorial. There is one issue in texturing workflow in blender. Roughness image should be powered by 2 if image was made in substance painter.

Hello, please do you know any reason why my substance painter is exporting a .json file instead of the actual pngs

Thank you Julien, I learned a lot from your course and I continue to learn from your videos. do you plan a migration course from 2.79 to 2.8?

Thanks for the so nice tutorial! It explains in a very simple way how to use the two apps in collaboration! Just one question: you did not use the 'height' map... why? And given that we have the normal map what may be the use of it? Is there a way to use both of them?

When i am adding Filter into normal layer following the tutorial 25:14 , filter is applied to whole object, not just the normal rectangles i have made...any clue please?

Love the tut and thanks for the download...……...just one query...….I followed everything exactly and the end result was great,...….but what is the reason for the 2 obj`s……...one low and one high??…….as stated, the end result was superb but in the modifiers the subsurf level 2 was not `closed`...…….so if I apply this it becomes high poly? ( if I don't apply the subsurf then the mesh is horrible,...particulary around the eyes)
@juliendeville73696 жыл бұрын
Yeah the high poly in that case is just the lowpoly with subdivision surface applied to have better shading around the edges.

buddy, why does my base color, doesn't appear only diffuse color on the layers I did and it manually but when I expect the Texture It replaces the back to Diffuse Color again :(

why does my substance painter says "baking Failed "? doing on blender just a simple box and unwarp it...but it failed to baked
@Altohamy5 жыл бұрын
why not you working on the high poly in the start? why you choose to work on the low poly?
@jaysonsanchez99025 жыл бұрын
using the low poly model takes up less memory and space than the high poly model, making you render much faster

Thanks for this tutorial. Everything worked great, right up until I applied the normal map in blender. The details do get the correct normal data, but the head has strange shading at the seams, is there something I need to set inside Substance Painter or something else I need to do? Could it be caused by placing hard surface details where seams meet (I did do this)?

So let me get this clear, we just need to uv unwraping our model, and then export the low first and then continue with the highpoly model, after that we can start the game?! No confusing noding anymore????........ my tears of happiness dripped profusely....
@juicy.bwrger5636 жыл бұрын
I mean ya we still have some noding but, omg, u know what im sayin

Really cute bot. Do you mind if I try to edit the model and print it? He'd make a really good mascot. I even send you him (no cost on the print, but I can't pay for the shipping)

Why did you skip telling us which workflow template to choose, for instance, "PBR-Spec/Gloss" or "Metallic/Roughness"?? You selected nothing! Why?
@ramdhan_dimas5 жыл бұрын
tell us the setting please

Metal/Rough is the PBR standard, for both substance and blender.

ey! "Could not find vertex colors in mesh" What happened? When i bake High Mesh. The Same momment 10:27 Please.
@reerjgiorge6 жыл бұрын
You dont need to worry about that. Its only telling you that substance painter uses vertex color to calculate material ids and other stuff. If you didnt use vertex painting to paint the materials ids on blender, its going to tell you that, but its not important.
@AngelAgudoGuerrero6 жыл бұрын
I was referring to how to see the High poly model in the viewer. Since I followed the steps, but I did not hit on it. A colleague told me that he is in the edit Edit. and Ta I can see it. Thank you. It is a very instructive video about this great tool. Very grateful too. see you...

Yeah I have the same. Also saying: 'Not enough data in the high poly to use selected baker. baking has been canceled'. Can I ignore that too? thnx

I have a problem: [Scene 3D] Failed to compute tangents; need UV data in channel0 [Scene 3D] Skipping one or more lines with the same contents [Scene 3D] 3D scene successfully loaded [Paint editor] Invalid scene, mesh 'Plane.001_Plane.005' has no UV coordinates
@reerjgiorge6 жыл бұрын
ALL the meshes you import into Substance painter need to have uvs. Its telling you that the plane mesh (whatever that is) doesnt have uvs. If you created a floor plane in blender, it needs to have uvs as well, even if its only a square..
