BlenderBim Update - 23.03.04 - Overview & Demonstration

This is a different kind of video, I just walk through and demonstrate some of the updates for the latest stable release of BlenderBim. I thought it could break up the tutorial vids, so I'll do these in the future aswell as a general catchup when the stable releases are put out there! Hope you find it helpful!

Great Stuff... Keep them coming. After adding a parametric window, how would you go about assigning materials to both the frame and the glazing, such that it also renders?

Hi @michaelrosenlund Unfortunately ifc file type and blender materials aren't compatible yet, Ifc does support ifcstyles which you can find in the material tab, but it only preserves a geometry colour, not reflection or anything more useful in renderings. So at present the only way to render materials is to unlink the ifc and just apply materials as a blend file, For which you can follow any Blender tutorial but it cant be saved with the ifc... yet! @@IfcArchitect Thank you for the answer. But if you where to apply a style, i know that i can for a mesh object can assign different styles for glazing and frame. But i cannot figure out how to do it with the parametric windows since you cannot enter edit mode.

Good work !.... however there are difficulties with tickness of hipped roof...may be it is not selectable... and it is not suitable with wall tops.... works are very good for doors and windows ...but not for roofs ???

The roof tool is very new, so you can manually edit the roof as a mesh including it's thickness using an extrude in blender but the feature is still coming to the roof modifier tool. Hope that helps

@@IfcArchitect yes... i know entire blenderbim is work in progress... i'm an italian architect ( very involved in Blender for design works... ) who is waiting to use Blenderbim in professional works...thanks for your job on it ...!

i'm asking how to insert another ifc file ( for ex. a table saved as .ifc ) in another .ifc project ( for ex. a building .ifc project.... ) ...i don't understand it.... it give me always error if i put table in project and then i give it forniture classification an re-save the entire project.... !!??

You can load the ifc file as an ifc library into your file and just select and load the table from that, If you want to copy past it across you need to first delink/declassify the table and then copy as a non ifc object then reclassify in the new file

I have no idea why but my door doesn't have auto boolean 😒. I have already reinstalled Blender (3,5) and the addon itself, nothing works. Regen doesn't change anything either. Any ideas people?

Hi Kamil, It may be that you are deselecting the wall before adding the door. It's happened to me a few times before, make sure you: 1. Select the wall 2. Add the door If that's not the answer you can try share the problem or the ifc file on the OSArch thread here: community.osarch.org/discussion/26/blenderbim-add-on-new-release#latest And other people including myself can try help

i had strange thing from Blenderbim : a simple model-file of a house without furnishings and sanitaries is less than 1 mb ..... but the same model plus furnishings and sanitary ( other blender files imported and classified in project ) is now 53 mb of space.....and it is not printable ...it drives blenderbim in overflow and i must to stop it .... anything about of similar thing for anybody ???

@@IfcArchitect i've seen that if i import in house ifc model only the 2d projectiones of my furniture objects...the dimension of global file results quite little.... !!!??? then i can understand that imported files in 3d from out of ifc main file may cause increment of global ifc file dimension ....and it can be a difficulty to print plane and other views... may be it is so ??? my furniture 3d objects was quite big.... 2d are very little... tks for consideration... and for helping ps. : i'm apprehensive for future european law about Opensource !!!!!

I have just started to learn blenderbim. As i can see when changing the dimension properties of ex. window, the entire wall has extra lines and vertex. How to update the graphics of the model to get rid of it?

Hi Ole, if that happens there are two ways I know of that could fix the problem: 1: select the wall, go into edit mode and limited dissolve by pressing 'a' , 'x' and then 'l' 2: update your representation, select the wall go to object data properties/ ifc representations/ update representation If those don't work, would you mind uploading the file to the OSArch community thread: community.osarch.org/discussion/26/blenderbim-add-on-new-release#latest And others including myself can assist

Hello, I cannot get the roof generator to work. Hitting F3, typing 'generate' leaves me with 'batch generate previews' entry and nothing else. Do I need to install anything other than the current stable blenderbim addon? Searching for 'roof' brings entries that also have nothing to do with the generator. And thank you very much for dishing out all your fine videos.

Hi Michael,, you can try the latest version here: github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/releases If you are on windows get: blenderbim-230310-py310-win.zip The developers have now added a UI for the roof tool which can be found in the modifiers along with the window and door tools! To use it, first classify the footprint as a roof and then activate the roof modifier. Hope that helps! And how to print plan view ( or elevation view... ) in a sheet from blenderbim ? i 've created view... but i don't know how to create sheets... ( a3, a2 , ecc... ) .... i don't understand it.... plan/roof is very good..... thks .... !

Can Blenderbim current version Be Used for Commercial Projects..?

It is still a pre alpha software so not too stable but quite a few professionals are using it in their workflow on the OSArch community website, including myself, but it has yet to be tried and tested on a large scale. You can ask people about their experiences on the website if you want to know more: community.osarch.org/discussions I can say for a small house refurbishment it is more than capable
