Hey Everyone! Apologies for the delay. I hope this isn't too long, this is the biggest update so far, so big I made a separate video on the UI here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqG0m4Wgd5aqpLc I cut it down as much as possible, skip to what is relevant to you. To summarize: BlenderBim is growing faster than ever and if you want to upgrade this is the right version to start learning with!

it's taken me an entire day of fn around with various addons (that are basically crap), to find something that will actually print dimensions onto paper, which it appears this can do - will get properly stuck in tomorrow, but at least i can relax for an hour before bed (it's 22h45 atm) - thanks so much for this 🇿🇦 ✊❤ 🇵🇸

Hi Dudley, glad you found it! There will be a pretty large update and up tp date tutorial in a week or so, that should make this easier if you are willing to wait
@dudleybarker2273Ай бұрын
@@IfcArchitect dude, i've been waiting for this for years - being able to dimension straight to print will be a godsend of epic proportions - installed the latest BonsaiBIM this morning and been watching your vids as well - one thing i struggled with is the library thing, but i guess you need to build a library to have one - i'm not an architect, nut i was a builder for many years and now i'm doing renders for people, but what's been missing all along is the ability to dimension (and obviously alter those dimensions without having to redraw large sections) - so basically i want to be able to print plans *and* render (in compositor?) plans and setups with all the bells and whistles (lighting etc) - but having a BIM to aid with QS work etc is just the golden cherry on top - thanks for all your work so far - i'm getting there :)

So glad to see BlenderBIM maturing so rapidly! Thanks for all your work on these videos to share, too. BTW, Existing is shorthand for "Existing to remain" and Demolish is shorthand for "Existing to be removed." For compatibility, items should only have a single classification-this matches the decades old CAD standard where all entities have only a single status classifier: N NEWW new work D DEMO existing to demolish E EXST existing to remain F FUTR future work T TEMP temporary work M MOVE items to move X NICN not in contract 1-9 PHS1 phase numbers
@DionMoult Жыл бұрын
Indeed, it is merely a technical coincidence that in IFC you can select multiple values for enumerations. In reality I expect everybody should only select a single value in the status property.
@IfcArchitect Жыл бұрын
Today I learned! thanks Steve, I think in this case if you want to select all the Existing the demolish elements need to have the existing status aswell, so it's a case of me breaking the system for some usability
@steve_hall Жыл бұрын
@@IfcArchitect "Status" is a technical and legal term. It would be a radio button to conform to industry practice. And single state avoids conflict-remember "existing" actually means "to remain" versus "demolition" meaning "to remove." Same for ambiguous options like "other" "and notknown". (I've never heard of "unset", is that a UK term?) This term has been embedded in design apps and design practices since the 1990 AIA CAD layer guidelines, 1997 National CAD Standard, 1998 ISO 13567 CAD Layer Standard, etc. I'm hope BlenderBIM can follow standards. Check boxes imply overlap, but we really depend on status to clearly define scope of work for construction, permit, contract, and legal purposes. Incidentally, I omitted one classification that NCS added in 2011: A ABND abandoned Sorry for being super pedantic but we use these terms every day to control drawing info in our current design apps. Hoping BlenderBIM can become a tool I can start leaning on some day!

Are you guys planning to have line based drawing of MEP systems? Modeling it element by element is very tedious for large projects.

Cokoladni, it all depends on the users and contributors, if you have ideas with some concrete application you can contribute and discuss them on the OSArch community page here: community.osarch.org/discussions The developers are very eager to get input from professionals and those that use the tools!

Amazing I think blender should take inspiration from the SketchUp LayOut side because LayOut is the 2 D part of SketchUp and it is amazing .. you model your stuff easily in SketchUp and after that you send it to LayOut and then document there. The cool thing here is the fact that your w3D and your 3 D are linked if you modify your 3 D in SketchUp it will do so in LayOut and it is easy and simple

if possible...how to change n. of decimal digit of text in annotation .... for example : how to transform 5,000 m in 5.00 m ? or dimension of text too ?
@IfcArchitect Жыл бұрын
Hi Creativo, yes it is you need to go to: 1) Click on the drawing camera 2) Go to Object Information 3) Go to object property sets 4) GO to EPSet_drawings 5) Scroll down to change metric precision to set the decimal spaces To adjust the deafault text size that is done in CSS and is a bit more complicated

1. Is it possible that all object in current storey get automatically parented to storey empty object so that it gets easier to move and duplicate storeys. Also height of storey empty objects should be inherited by all objects within that storey collection. 2. When are we going to see integration of energy simulation pipeline either using existing ladybug tools or energyplus engine?
@IfcArchitect Жыл бұрын
Hi Gomzyp, lets have a look 1.1) Yes it is possible to copy objects to a storey and have them at the correct placement, I will be showcasing it in an upcoming video. 1.2 Regading updating all the heights of elements (I assume walls) to a storey height unfortuantely this still need to be done manually but you can make a feature request on the github page here: github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/issues 2.) At the moment this is on the backburner for the developer so I can't give you a solid timeframe, if you are able to code you could contribute to making it happen faster, again you can enquire and contribute on the github page: github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/issues I hope that helps

@@IfcArchitect thanks for your amazing work. If you throw light on something like Make Group option in revit where u make kind of collection instances. Middel storeys are usually copies so it helps. If you could discuss any workaround for that too. Would really help lot of people. Regarding 1.2 i meant location in z axis of storey children and not heights of walls etc. Just placement in z direction. I would also like to know more about how to arrange site elements e.g. terrain, trees, neighboring bldg blocks, roads etc.

@@gomzyp1 I'll plan a video showcasing some of these element, blenderbim isn't 1to1 analogous with Revit so the make group would most likely be created using aggregates, but we will explore it

I dont understand why blenderBIM team is wasting/investing their time in 2d documentation which is the last step and also now all the world is moving to 3d and meta, for 2d work why not implement inkscape in this process which already has solid foundation and is a dedicated community as well. The necessary information/data for 2d documentation should be passed in the form of svg file along with all the elements to utilize that information and then some extensions should be developed which will take care of that info based upon the interest of the user. also the data and information that is available in svg format should be editable so that by making changes in that info user can revert that file back to the IFC file.
@DionMoult Жыл бұрын
Almost all project delivery globally is 2D documentation based. I'd say we're not investing enough, based on the feedback we've been given. Inkscape is definitely part of the process: all we do is generate semantic vector data - all the styling is based on the data: the BlenderBIM Add-on itself does not do any processing to do with styles or SVG standards. So yes, in theory we could even edit that SVG data then merge back those changes into IFC, though this is not implemented.
@casiovadal Жыл бұрын
Having a robust 2D documentation toolset within BlenderBIM is crucial. In any ongoing project, frequent drawing revisions are necessary. I concur with Dion; there's never enough time dedicated to 2D documentation, which serves as the primary means of communication with on-site builders. Conversations aboutmeta and 3D may not always resonate with a 50-year-old builder in a rural area. It's truly a blessing when a software provides tools for batch exporting all drawings at once or allows seamless updates in the title block of one drawing, automatically syncing with the rest of the drawing set.
