"They have to have that one tiny race" I once read an article on video game avatar choices and the two most popular choices were human (usually an idealized version of the person playing the avatar) and the small "cute/comedic" race. I think the reason they add them is due to their popularity since way back when even WoW's second most popular race behind human was gnome and it just makes sense that the two most popular character types make it into every game. There was also some interesting stuff on jovial personalities being drawn to comedic character designs like gnomes or pandas and more "hardcore" gamers being drawn to more monstrous character designs like undead and orcs, but you know, blah, blah, blah, etc. etc.

Obviously they have made the combat system to where each class requires a group of people to support each other. You complained about the mage being immobile and static, but that is the very definition of a mage. They take time to charge up spells and have low mobility and self defence, but high offence/support. They REQUIRE help from others, examples being a tank. And then the tank would also obviously require a mage to support him because they cant take tons of damage forever, they have to heal. My best guess is they made this game in mind for groups of people to fight together, not soloing, although there might be one class specifically suited for being solo. This IS an MMO so grouping should be expected.

the combat isnt actually that bad. remember this is a MMO with players around meaning if you cant do something solo you can always ask for help like a healer or even just anyone can help you through that area you're stuck on. i can understand if u say its the main storyline it shouldnt have group content but its a mmo, treat it as such and you'll have a great time.

The combat looked fine. It seems more of an actual RPG instead of Action RPG. I know the newer crowd loves the fast paced action RPGs, but those games tend to revolve around sheer amounts of luck than actual skill. Being able to actually think and make your next move always seemed more advanced to me, leaning towards strategy and not button mashing; however, that being said you did make some valid points in you video and I respect your opinion of the subject matter. I will be waiting for this game to be released in the West.

CrashSquirrel I completely agree with you. There are entirely too many Action RPG MMOs, and surprise surprise, they never survive long. There is nothing wrong with tab-targeting, evidence being WoW still has ridiculous amount of subscribers. Also, I didn't see anything wrong with the combat. Perhaps if Peon was using his blink to kite, instead of dashing through the enemies.. he would've had more success. I prefer to think about my next move rather than mash my face on the keyboard and do extremely flashy moves and kill everything.

Looks nice, and i agree we need more exploration in MMORPG's again. I loved it with WoW to just go to a coast line and follow it. See where we would end up. Seeing a farm at some bent after 20 minutes walking, with no other way to reach it. Those where the day's. With flying mounts it became less of a thing to explore :(

Such a shame with the combat system, because the look of the game is absolutely amazing! Everything from the character details, customization and look of abilities is beautiful! I think if not for the combat system of the game, it would have taken the spot of Black Desert of most anticipated games for me. What I do like about the game, is that the combat seems challenging as you cannot take on 15 enemies at a time, as you can in black desert, and the weapons seem "realistic" unlike in Tera. If they changed the combat system, to be action combat with the same fluidity as Black Desert, would you play this game over BDO?

+Levi Hornby Never really played Neverwinter, so I cannot comment on that, but the tabtargeting is somewhat similar to WoW, although very different as it seems that you "Lock on" to a target through action combat, without clicking on the target. This just seems to make it unreliable and annoying to use effectively.

Something I noticed Peon is you weren't using the pet combat feature for your multi agro situation with the mage in that building. It helps A LOT when going through the game, its one of the main features, but sadly this beta test didn't really force it on you to notice it

Combat System: As many of you might know, the combat system as of now feels unresponsive and the action combat is not on par with current generation action MMORPGs. Neowiz will be working on both tab targeting and action combat systems to have better combat experience in both systems. In the end of the day, combat is a very important aspect of every MMO and needs to feel good to keep players entertained in combat. These are two of many changes, which will come to with the western release of Bless. It's a MMO that is based on Realm v's Realm and capturing territory - when you get out of the starting areas you were in you start to encounter open world PvP (around level 25-30). The combat is fine, I cannot understand how you died so much, I played a mage and it's a really powerful class, did you just use quest gear or actually craft your own stuff ? Because if you do not craft or buy crafted gear then you are woefully underpowered, and have lower health pool than you should. There again the names on the factions were directly under the (2 headed dragon thing) so if you cannot read a simple couple of lines of text then maybe to know the faction names, maybe we can see the lack of attention you apply - to what is basically a job for you... to play MMO's

You say the combat needs a ton of work, but it just turns out you suck at using a mage, which is traditionally low mobility and squishy but high dmg. Every single time you either sat there and face tanked dmg or you wasted both your teleports together while not making use of the distance you put between you and the enemies. learn to play the class or play another another one, dont whinge cause you cant do something as simple as start a fight with nuke, use another spell then teleport away, few more spells, teleport away, few more spells, use your ice aoe CC at which time you teleports are prob up again or the enemies are long dead, etc etc. Dont just freak out and use both teleports, use your aoe frost cc while missing some of the enemies, then whinge at the game for its combat. that rant shud have been directed at yourself, at your complete lack of being able to play such a simple style of fighting and wasting all your mobility and CC you do have.

There was also a point where he used the icy spell the instance he needed it the most and only managed to freeze 2/4-5 enemies. That obviously foretells an unsuccessful fight. I haven't played the game to have a good opinion about it, but this conjecture about mage combat was rather unrealistic.

In regard to tiny races, I play a small one myself. Not only is it funny as heck in all kinds of situations, but it can be extremely useful in a fight, because us smalls can get up under the enemy and gut it, while it's standing there looking around for us!

picks a mage and fights in melee range....of course it's fucking shit you squirrel.....use the dash to create some distance, use the 2 sec channel ability, use the second dash again, the other channel ability, go melee range and freeze them, channel some more and then the insta-cast abilities.....jesus...people picking the wrong class for themselves and the complaining about it. pick a damn guardian next time you want to fight them head on and tank shit tone of dmg....

I like that combat. The new combat systems of just flopping around like Guild Wars is annoying to me. You just have it all handed to you and you roll around on the ground. I prefer combat like this, reminds me of better times in mmo's

These Korean MMORPG companies infuriate me. Hear me out... Every one of these amazing worlds, are completely wasted on lack of interesting creative direction. While the worlds are nice, the gameplay and CONTENT is shite over and over and over. CLEARLY, they have the ability to make such amazing open world games, but rather than innovating, they keep doing the exact same crap with them - especially with their dull questing content. Imagine if one of these companies had a visionary storyteller / world builder in charge. Just imagine for a second, if someone like George R. R. Martin the Creative Director, while others handle all the technical/art aspects.

Because of the massive amounts of hours and grind needed in these games, the stories aren't as developed or cared about by the majority of people who play them. Some actually good good stories, but no matter how good of a writer you get, it'd still be like 4-40 hours(being extremely generous here) of story, versus 1000s of hours worth of gameplay invested.

Having played this game myself for a few days, I can concur with your frustrations of the combat system. It's one of the reasons I was keen to watch your first impressions of this particular MMO. I too felt the combat was clunky, sticky and very unsatisfying. And why, oh why is no fall damage a thing? In such a beautifully deisnged world, it really ruined my desire to explore further. I was so hyped for this game and feel it was a total 'nope fest.' for me. Top vid - enjoyed it! :)

Perhaps you are actually looking at the combat as a single player game? Seems to me that you are supposed to rely on others to play it and survive stronger mobs. Which is what mmos NEED desperately: Comunity. Groups. Socialization. Of course, the combat looks as stuck as in WoW with it's tab-targeting but some people (me for an instance) don't like the run-around rolling and button mashing in an RPG. It IS an RPG on it's core, it shoud have minimum tactical combat and positioning to succeed an encounter. Lets see how it plays when it comes out.

Maybe you didn't like the combat cuz you are playing by yourself, it was clear to me that you needed a healer that time you get rekt by 3 or 4 mobs, and isn't that the main concept of mmorpg? playing with someone else? Maybe theres a class that can give you some combat buffs? I really don't like the mmorpg genre nowadays cuz they design it to be played by yourself, you level up alone most of the time, like an offline rpg.

Did this kid ever play Vanilla WoW? Mage class could generally take 1 mob at a time...2 was a challenge and 3 was near impossible. It was stand at the very edge of max range for your first attack and then cc/kite/run in circles and try not to die. Alright, 22 mins is enough of this video...and probably this channel. Hate people who whinge and complain just because they suck at a game. This from the guy who couldn't even figure out combat in Age of Conan.

The combat is being redone for NA version of the game. So when it officially releases it will have amazing combat on top of everything else being amazing. I can honestly see this being a great game and maybe one of the best MMO's.
