Gog and Magog (pronounced as “Gog u-Magog” in Hebrew and “Yajuj amd Majuj2” in Arabic) are names that appear in the Old Testament, and in the Quran. they are people numerous in number who will appear toward end of times. According to ahadith, Gog and Magog are from among the children of Adam (alaihis salaam) and they will be numerous in number. Ibn Kathir states in his books that they are from among Prophet Nuh’s (alaihis salaam) offspring Yafeth as Allah Almighty has mentioned in his glorious Quran: “Then We saved him and those with him in the ship” (Al-‘Ankabut, 15), “And, his progeny, them We made the survivors” (As-Saffat, 77) three sons born to Prophet Nuh: Shem, Ham and Japheth. Shem was the father of the Arabs; Ham was the father of the Sudanese; and Japheth was the father of the Turks. According to the descriptions narrated by ahadith, Gog and Magog belong to the Turkic Mongol race, have small eyes, small flat noses and wide faces. Their faces look like hammered-out shields (their faces are likened to shields because they are wide and round). The Arrival of Yajuj and Majuj (Gog and Magog) “Until, when Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj are let loose (from their barrier), and they swiftly swarm from every mound. And the true promise (Day of Resurrection) shall draw near (to fulfillment)…” [Surah al-Anbiyaa:96-97] The barrier separating Yajuj and Majuj from people Allah Almighty clearly informed His Prophet ( that Yajuj and Majuj will be from among the people of Hell and that their nature denies the truth and submission to it, as they will not respond to the caller till the Day of Judgment. It is stated in the Holy Quran that Allah has held Yajuj and Majuj behind a barrier that was created with iron and copper by Dhoo’l-Qarnayn. Gog and Magog were at the time of Dhul-Qarnayn. Dhul-Qarnayn was a good man and a great king. Allah gave him great power, and he ruled the East and West. He held sway over all kings and countries, and traveled far and wide in both East and West. He traveled eastwards until he reached a passage between two hills, through which people were coming out. Those people did not understand anything, because they were so isolated; they were Gog and Magog. They were spreading corruption through the earth, and harming the people, so the people sought help from Dhul-Qarnayn. They asked him to build a barrier between them and Gog and Magog. He sought their help in building it, so together they built a barrier by mixing iron and copper. Allaah Almighty tells us (interpretation of the meaning): “Then he followed (another) way, until, when he reached between two mountains, he found, before (near) them (those two mountains), a people who scarcely understood a word. They said: ‘O Dhoo’l-Qarnayn! Verily! Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj are doing great mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute in order that you might erect a barrier between us and them?’ He said: ‘That (wealth, authority and power) in which my Lord has established me is better (than your tribute). So help me with strength (of men), I will erect between you and them a barrier. Give me pieces (blocks) or iron,’ then, when he had filled up the gap between the two mountain-cliffs, he said, ‘Blow,’ till when he had made it (red as) fire, he said, ‘Bring me molten copper to pour over it.’ So they [Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj] were made powerless to scale it or dig through it. (Dhoo’l-Qarnayn) said: ‘This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the Promise of my Lord comes, He shall level it down to the ground. And the Promise of my Lord is ever true.’ And on that Day [i.e., the day Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj will come out], We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another, and the Trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together.” [Surah al-Kahf 18:92-99]

The word "Until" is preposition & conjunction which in Arabic is Hatta. You can not use half the verse starts from "Until" as it will be misleading. The full verse is as follows: "But there is a ban on any population which We have destroyed: that they shall not return, Until the Gog and Magog (people) are let through (their barrier), and they swiftly swarm from every hill. Then will the true promise draw nigh (of fulfillment): then behold! the eyes of the Unbelievers will fixedly stare in horror: "Ah! Woe to us! we were indeed heedless of this; nay, we truly did wrong!" (Quran 21:95-97) NOW, The banned city which was destroyed is Jerusalem and the ban is on the Jews. According to one major commentator, the last part of the verse (in re regards to mourning) talking about Messiah son of Joseph, who will be killed during the war with Magog. However, the verse you've sited are translated a bit different by a Jewish source. And they shall look to me because of those who have been thrust through [with swords], and they shall mourn over it as one mourns over an only son and shall be in bitterness, therefore, as one is embittered over a firstborn son."

Is it not that the criterion for prophets is that their words must fulfill to the letter? Last time I checked a videos of this channel, this was the way Jews determine if one's a prophet and one's not. So, if the prophecies of the prophets are not literal, doesn't that invalidate the way Jews use to test if a person is a prophet or not? Clearly, the prophets mentioned in the Hebrew bible are not just accepted but also revered across Jews, Christians and Muslims. So, this definitely is problematic regarding rabbinic assessment methodologies.

Shehroze Islam great question. The prphecy having to come about to the letter, is when testing a prophet. Ones a prophet is tested and accepted, I think he could speak in allegories. That's what I think, but I'm not sure. Also I'm not sure if the predictions about the horses and riders are allegorical. Maybe they are literal..

We, muslims, are going through a similarly difficult period and I think that there is a great lesson in the Jewish history. In fact there is an ayat in the Quran that says: "And We made from among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and [when] they were certain of Our signs." (32:24) It would be very nice of you if you could point out some video, audio or reading materials which are not very difficult to grasp for laymen like me.

Shehroze Islam what makes you think Jews regained their glory after the destruction of the first temple? Even though Jews came back to Israel and built the second temple, Jews never got the complete Independence. Their country was controlled by either Greeks, Persians or Romans. G-d had mercy on us and returned us after 70 years (since destruction of the first temple) to our land, but we never regained the previous glory. At least, not yet.

I am sorry but I think you have misunderstood me. By regaining glory, I meant that children of Israel turned to Allah (Subhanallahu Ta'ala) and established His religion and laws even though they were overpowered and through their steadfastness and piety, they received mercy and glad tidings from Him. There is a similar analogy in Islam with regards to Adam (PBUH). When he was sent to the earth for his mistake and was humbled, he repented repeatedly for it and so Allah (Subhanallahu Ta'ala) showed mercy on him by guiding him and giving him glad tidings of the garden of perpetual residence or paradise. In case of the Jews, I argue that it was a just parallel to what happened to Adam (PBUH) but at a collective manner. The children of Israel wronged themselves, Allah (Subhanallahu Ta'ala) punished them for their transgression and humbled them. The children of Israel realized their mistake and repented towards Him. Now, this is very crucial because without that repentance and steadfastness, there would be no glad tiding of the coming glory of the everlasting kingdom. And that repentance and steadfastness, I think was, in my opinion, the greatest moments of your nation and a lesson for every repenting nation to come that seeks the mercy from their Lord.

I don't think all Jews repented. Only some good. In fact the prophet Ezra (pbuh) had to instruct the Jews who got intermarried with the pegans, to send away their wives and children. Only a small number of Jews return back to the land of Israel. By the way, this is where the notion of the "ten lost tribes" come from. Excellent question. There is no one reference. Each law can be derived from different places in the Torah. For example God punished Cain for killing Abel, hence the law though shall not kill. Another example is that Torah says the Earth was filled with robbery before the Flood, hence the law though shalt not steal. Another example, we see that the people of Sodom practiced homosexual relationship and God has punished them, hence the law of not to commit sexual immorality. As far as not eating a limp from the live animal, there is an explicit verse where God commands us to Noah (pbuh).Etc, etc,.

AbdulAziz Mohammed , excellent questions. G-d hid the grave of Moses, because since he was the greatest prophet that ever lived, the people might start to worship him. To avoid this, G-d has hidden his grave. There are stories in talmud how people tried to find this grave, but couldn't. In regards to your second question, according to talmud, Moses (pbuh) wrote about his own death.

I think I may have an idea as to why.... Firstly, as Jews we generally do not accept these Christian transportations. However, I will tell you why I think the Christian translation may have confused the 'Rosh." In original Hebrew Ezekiel it does, infact, mention Rosh. Rosh in Hebrew means "head", "leader". So the question is, does "Rosh Meshech vTuval" mean "leader of Meshech and Tuval" or does it mean "Rosh (name of nation), Meshech and Tuval"?

Thank you sir for your response very insightful, However my question would be more in regards as to why the name Rosh was added into the NKJV specifically in the Ezekiel passage 38:2, interesting to note it was published in 1979 post cold war, when it was not existing in the KJV from 1611 as I understand it the Jewish scrolls do not identify Rosh in said passage either. So it was not a translation subject of name already mentioned in said passage but they (the translators of the NKJV) completely added this name Rosh into the NKJV. Also interesting to note that Rosh in Genesis: 46:21 Rosh would be from the Benjamite tribe son of Benjamin, so it would not reason to imply that Rosh would be Benjamites from Russia ready to invade Israel, or that the Scythians are Russian Gog/Magog (as some hold this view) as the ones invading Israel. I agree that Rosh is the head/cheif prince, leader, but somehow it has been taught that Rosh is Russia (simply because it sounds like Russia). If the name Rosh was in the KJV this would not even be a question but as it is, it was not, therefore one must ask why was it then added into the NKJV , and now conveniently used by many to identify Russia as Rosh? Is it then appropriate to label Rosh as Russia? who by the way their lands do not surround the coast lands or the isle. Let's keep in mind while Russia did commit some horrible atrocity's toward the Jews there, they also lead the coalition to liberate the Jews from the Nazi's, when others failed or refuse to do so at first. Gog and Magog are not Turkish people - this is incorrect. Gog/Magog are descendants from Japheth, Turkic people are not descended from Japheth. Japheth's descendants are mainly the European populations. Gog/Magog are European people, probably from the German area. Ashkenaz was also a descendent of Japheth who settled in the region of Europe which is now Germany. Germany is where many Ashkenazi Jews come from. Gog from Magog - that was very informative. From my Christian perspective, Gog/Magog just precedes the last week of Daniel 9:27 (Deuteronomy 31, 9-13, the confirmation of the Mt. Sinai covenant, for 7 years in the text, a speech by the Antichrist from the temple mount). 7 years following Gog/Magog in Ezekiel 39. In Ezekiel 39:17-20, after those 7 years come to an end, the feast on the dead bodies at Armageddon. If you look at Revelation 19:17-18, same description. Till when their appointed term comes and Allah desires to send them against mankind, they dig it till they could see the sun rays (through it) and their leader says: ‘Go back and you will finish it tomorrow, if Allah wills!’ On the next day, they find it as they had left the day before and they dig through it and come against mankind. They will drink (every drop of water they pass by). The people will resort to strongholds. And, Gog and Magog will throw their arrows towards the sky. When they come back to them stained with what looks like blood, they will say: ‘We have defeated the people on earth and those in the heaven as well.’ Then, Allah the Almighty will send against them worms in their necks that will kill them all. Allah’s Messenger (S.A.W.S) said: “By Him in Whose Hand Muhammed’s soul rests! Living creatures of the earth would go fat and be thankful due to eating their flesh and (drinking their) blood.” (Also transmitted by Imam Ahmed on the authority of Hasan Ibn Musa after Sufyan after Qatadah and by At-Tirmidhi on the authority of Abu, Awanah after Qatadah.) After the end of Gog Magog, the other signs of the arrival of day of judgment will come shortly one after another till the trumpet will be blown and the world in its present state will end “Gog and Magog (two tribes or two peoples) will appear at the time of the second coming of Jesus son of Mary (peace be upon him) before the end of the world, soon after the Dajjal (anti-Christ). When those from among them who constitute the former part of their army pass the lake of Tiberias (which is in northern Palestine), they will drink up all the water of that lake and by the time those that constitute the latter part of that same army pass the lake, they will say, "There used to be water here (long ago). When they reach the Mount of Khamr in Jerusalem, they will arrogantly proclaim: 'We have conquered the people of the earth, now we will annihilate those in the sky.' So saying they will fire their arrows towards the sky. When the arrows return to the ground they will be blood stained. In the meantime, Eesa (A.S.) will be on the Mount of Toor with his followers. At that time the head of and ox will be as valuable as is a hundred dinars to you in this day. [This indicates the scarcity of provisions]. Faced with these hardships, Eesa (A.S.) and his followers will make dua unto Allah (to remove this calamity). As a result, Allah will cause sores to appear on the necks of each and every individual of these people which will cause their death suddenly. When Eesa (A.S.) and his followers descend from the Mount of Toor there will not be a single space on the land where the dead rotting bodies of these people is not littered, giving off a horrendous odour. Eesa (A.S.) and his followers will once more supplicate unto Allah as a result of which Allah will send down huge birds whose necks will be as thick as that of the necks of camels, and they will dump these bodies in a place where Allah wills. (According to a narration by Tirmidhi, they will be dumped at a place called Nahbal). Allah Ta'ala will then send down a heavy rain, the waters of which will flow in every part of the earth cleansing it thoroughly. It will rain for a period of forty days. Allah will order the earth to yield forth its crops in abundance and there will be such blessing and prosperity that one pomegranate will be sufficient for a whole group while the peel thereof will suffice to cast a shadow over them. The milk of one camel will be sufficient for many groups while one milk giving cow will be sufficient for a whole tribe. One milk giving goat will be sufficent for a whole family..." (Muslim) Hadhrat Abu Saeed Khudri (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "On the day of Qiyamah Allah will say to Adam (A.S.) to pick out the Jahannamis from his entire progeny. Adam (A.S.) will ask: 'O Rabb, who are they?' Allah will say: 'Nine hundred and ninety nine of a thousand are Jahannami while the one is a Jannati.' On hearing this the Sahaba were overtaken by fear and they asked "O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), who will that one Janniti be?' Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: 'Do not grieve, the nine hundred and ninety nine will be Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj while you will be the Jannati."' (i.e. your numbers in relation to them will be one in a thousand). Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Umar (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Allah Ta'ala divided mankind into ten parts. Nine tenths constitute Ya'jooj and Ma'jooj while the remaining tenths constitutues the rest of mankind."
