This was a fantastic video! Everyone who wants to do fittings at local golf stores need to watch this video. I went for a new driver last year and the fitter kept getting really focused on lowering my spin rate and had me trying drivers that I felt were outside my wheel house. Yeah I would hit a few bombs, but a majority of the shots weren't hitting the fairway. Long story short I opted for driver I was hitting 10 yards shorter because my dispersion was way tighter compared to the lower spinning heads. Spin is absolutely control.

Interesting subject and the ball is something amateurs like me should put more weight on. Currently testing out 8 different balls to eventually settle on one for my personal game. I may even choose one for softer course conditions and a different one for harder course conditions. ⛳️

Hah, he has nearly the exact same launch conditions as me. 155 is a comfortable ball speed with driver for a straighter shot, and I hit up quite a bit. I've always smashed the ball well, but spin was something I found I needed because I had so little spin loft with every club. I recently went on a journey to switch from the Z-star to something with a bit more spin. So far the V1x is working well.

love these types of convos as I have them in my head constantly ;0)... you nailed me at the end, "Id rather see more fairways then the occasional home run". Crap!!! I hit lots of home runs in baseball so I go for it off the tee, come from inside, hump move, and flip the hands, and when donkeys fly, I hit 300! hahaha. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would love to see a video on how pros take spin off. Are they trying to change their spin loft? Are they intentionally hitting toe side? Take less loft and swing softer? Never really seen a good video on how that's done

Great question. For most it’s regulating speed through the shot. Rahm for example swing 1/2, 3/4 etc. Ball position might change to change height but essentially it’s governing the speed through the shot.

Two of those balls the AVX and left dash are both designed to lower spin considerably. The biggest difference on them is the feel one prefers. The left dash is played on all tours where as the avx is not. (To my knowledge)

Love Johnny’s different nuggets of info here. Don’t hear a lot of people mention the point of diminishing returns on upward AoA. I notice this too. If I try to hit the ball more on 0* AoA or on a low tee, I get so much more ball speed due to the lessened dynamic loft. Lose a couple yards to the lowered apex height and maybe a touch of spin from the strike being lower in the head, but the ball is so much more manageable. And it’s coming out fast, you can still achieve a lot of rollout

I was suggested Kirkland and vice pro plus by a fitter I used the Kirkland a few rounds and they were incredibly sticky on the greens with irons, but short and unpredictable off the tee, the highest spinner apparently around Do you think the pro plus sacrifices alot of spin compared to the Kirklands? Or do you think they will sit where I need a ball to ( slightly less spinny than Kirkland)

I’m really trying to understand optimal spin numbers in particular with driver. I play a cut off the tee, and when I leave the face open the golf ball obviously has a lot of left to right spin. If I was to play that same shot with an 8 deg head compared to a 9 deg I’m assuming there would be less spin with the 8 deg head. So in this case would the less spin head be more likely to keep the ball in play or would the higher loft of the 9 deg help giving this scenario?

100% agree I started using left dash. Longest and straightest I've ever hit. Allways practise will a few different prov's. The 2023 prov1 feels like a lead weight. The 2021 prov1 was a nice ball. But some of the models avx down on distance very hooky. Cannot control distance with irons. I fight the hook with most balls, but hardly miss a fairway with left dash. Took time on the greens with the putter to get used to the harder cover. But now love that too.

The ping/ballnamics guys say indoor testing numbers aren't accurate and players see different spin numbers and flight windows outdoors. So why do you take these indoor tests as accurate?
@nealhorton4550
@nealhorton4550 11 ай бұрын
I would think it has to do with a controlled environment with as many factors as possible set the same across the length of the test. If this test were done outside, variables like wind gust, temperature, etc. could change over the course of the test. By having a controlled environment the test is as accurate as it can be without using a robot to hit each shot. I do agree that outside testing is more apt to what you would do in a round of golf and should have a deciding factor in what ball you play. I watch this with a grain of salt and get a feel for what I think would work best for my game and then go play a round or two with different balls to see what works best for me in real world conditions
@kourt2469
@kourt2469 11 ай бұрын
The launch, spin, ball speed are all accurate. The thing launch monitors can't do indoors is simulate aerodynamics so the ball could potentially fly different but those base numbers are reliable. But it's also very hard for someone to find a place outside they can go and test multiple balls and multiple shots.
