I don't know how to do it properly, but it really didn't looked like there was an "easy way" other than maybe taking the top off rather than the bottom.
@frankenbuster
@frankenbuster 7 жыл бұрын
You do actually have to take off the bottom to get to the top. The biggest problem to start with was that Druaga tackled it backwards by going from the screen end to the front instead of the other way around. And from there it just fell more and more apart. Also instead of removing the speakers and power button board, it would have been way easier to just unplug the connectors. Unfortunately he didn't seem to think of that

It's actually acting as a heatsink.
@motorsportfangr
@motorsportfangr 7 жыл бұрын
It's electromagnetic shielding to comply to FCC regulation. The computer has enough heatpipes and heatsinks already. A razor thin sheet of aluminum loosely covering the motherboard won't do much for thermals. I've never seen anyone do the shielding like that. They usually either have: 1)thin shielding glued to the inside of the plastic panels(in other words how this one should have been) 2)a much thicker shielding cage attached to the motherboard which sometimes doubles as a heatsink as well.
@CockulousChenning
@CockulousChenning 7 жыл бұрын
Notice the thermal pad on one of the chips. The shielding is being used as a heat sink for that chip.

I think you're onto something with this blind dissassembly stuff, much to the displeasure of those who are here to radically advocate "reading the manual", for some reason. Not to mention, that was probably a really expensive thing you just about scraped........ but let's not dwell on that. I'll look forward to that desktop conversion, if you can make it Druaga1.. I recently upgraded the hard disk in my iBook G4 to an mSATA SSD using an IDE adapter. I had to basically take the bottom off, then the power line, then the top, while also trying not to destroy wires LITERALLY glued to the top panel. It was a nightmare of screws, and tape and glue. Apple REALLY doesn't want people to service their own stuff.

I don't think Apple made iBook G3 serviceable... except for RAM and Airport stuff. And I think same thing goes for modern Macs. Even if it's easy to take off the case, there are not really much parts you can upgrade or replace.(Or in worst case, almost everything is soldered on logic board like 2016 MacBook Pro)
