Every working person pays for this insurance. I find it disgusting how people who become disabled have this extra added stress heaped onto them, for no good reason other than our government doesn't want to pay out what we working people have paid for through the decades. FYI ... 99% of SSDI applicants have to hire an attorney, of which 25% of the back pay due you is paid to the attorney. How long can you survive without an income, one year, a year and a half? Most likely far less. People who scam the system should go to prison and be mandated to pay back every penny back with interest, but don't throw everyone under the bus just because of a few bad apples.

They always deny right from the start and it can take years before they finally take your case seriously, I had to go through this and my brother used to work for a disability determination office that dealt with military members, when he looked into cases that were sincere he wanted to approve them but he got in trouble because they wanted him to deny them because they had a quota to meet. They will deny people that have had their arms and legs blown off, its ridiculous. Be persistent and consider writing a letter to the head office (in Virginia I believe) on why they should approve you, don't bother with a lawyer, they just get a huge chunk of your money and you can already do what they can (gather records and so on), they will also drag your case out as long as they can so they collect a bigger percentage of your back pay once you're approved.

He was charged with disability fraud and the state brought pictures and video of the guy working in his yard, shopping and other activities where he appeared to have no trouble getting around. It looked like an open and shut case, until the guy came to court with the help of his identical twin brother. It was his brother in all the pictures. Disability denied him year after year and we lost everything, house, furniture, kids toys, you name it. When he went to his last disability hearing the judge asked him why he was so tan. My husband stated that because he could no longer drive that our doctor told him to get out to sit on the porch and get some sun for the benefits. People were watching him because they said he " looked " too healthy. He finally got his disability but it was too late. He had renal failure, adrenal gland failure, spinal deterioration, crohns disease, etc. By the time it was all said and done, my husband was in a hospital bed in the livingroom unable to wipe his own butt or shower without my assistance. Sadly he died april 18, 2013 just 3 days before his 37th birthday. Everyone thought that because he was such a big guy that he was faking it. My children are now without a father. Many private investigators such as myself work for large investigative firms who largely specialize in workman's compensation fraud. Generally an accident happens in the workplace, someone "pads" the claim (meaning they overexaggerate their restrictions/disabilities so they can get disability pay), and once red flags are drawn on their profile (such as not responding in a timely manner, changes in story, social media activity showing blatant disregard for their restriction. etc.), the insurance companies request surveillance. It's a very rewarding job when you have a successful case. I've had probably 20 successful cases in the past 2 years, and you'd be surprised how dumb a lot of these criminals are lol. If you claim you have a lifting restriction of 5 pounds and need to wear a brace on your right wrist, you better be wearing it in public and living within that restriction, but many are careless and oblivious to the fact they're being surveilled

I left my job in Nov. 2019 due to diabetes damaging the retina in my good eye. My other eye was legally blind since I was a kid. I filed for disability in August of 2020. They took until Oct. 2021 to approve me. Did I get a huge retroactive check for the months between filing and approval? HELL NO! They said I wasn't disabled until July 2021 and that I had to remain disabled for 5 months after they determined I was disabled, before I get my first check. And even then, it's an additional month for that first check to arrive so I didn't start collecting until April 2022. I bet the people in this video got approved in an instant.

has he been made to pay back the money,on principal as a deterrent to others.these people should have their backs broken so there is a fear that uncle sam will come for the money REGARDLESS,jail time for perjury as well.

A 10-year jail sentence would go a long way towards stopping these abuses.

I'm in the UK and genuinely disabled and it happens here too. I have to fight for my benefits
@dennisplatte75062 жыл бұрын
Agree------it should be much tougher to get benefits. I'd like to see maybe 3 doctors have to sign off. But Ronald Reagan made it easier to get benefits that you and I pay for. The Gov. doesn't pay a cent----it's all on us.

I'm on disability for a TRUE disability and I had to apply more than once and go through all kinds of medical exams so it burns me up to see people faking it and taking advantage

@mxtthzw but to be completely honest are days I wish I didn't have my disability I would love to have a normal functioning working body instead of some of the stuff I have to deal with.

I love how this guy talks about his life changing he is an example of why it is so hard for the real disabled people who depend of social security to help with the medical bills and paying utilities to keep the lights on.
