I keep getting impressed by guard dogs n the fact that they even pay attention to details like curbs in this case to avoid incidents is really something else. Applause for these smart animals n their trainers and/or owners who make it possible to have such trusted n insightful companions.

I get made when I see loose curb slabs or dog poop left by people.. makes guide dogs jobs even harder! There is a half-a-foot sized hole in the middle of the pavement near my house and I have to lead my blind dog around it everyday, our council is shit at fixing these things.. I can't imagine what a guide dog would do there because it would be at risk of it's own leg getting stuck but it would obviously not want it's owner to step in it either

I still wonder how these guide dogs are so excellently trained. Like you totally depend on them, and they do an amazing job. Dogs are really more intelligent than we give them credit for.💖

I think I read somewhere that they train them for 2 years. I could be wrong but yeah. That's also why they're so expensive

There are some vids on KZbin about that. As I learned from those vids, they are chosen by temper and some characteristics, a guide dog should have. And: In those situations, they are in work mode and after a few years, they will retire. So, they are a great help and they like it, but it's also exausting for them.

I want to thank you for teaching people more about blindness. I'm guessing that Paul has RP based on his description? My wife has Usher Syndrome which is RP plus hearing loss. Most people think that only completely blind people use a cane or dogs. We don't have a dog yet but she has been using a cane for years. People look at us funny when we walk into movie theaters and even had a TSA agent ask her if she really needed the cane since "she can obviously see." And you're also very entertaining. I'm glad you are here and I appreciate all you are doing. I wish you both nothing but the best!!!
