As a person who actually worked in Tesco for months. The problem is area managers and regional managers of Tesco. They have the power of the stores. All they care about is turnover and performance v last month and this time last year. That is it. There is no culture of professionalism or management that guides stores to upkeep customer service, tidiness, store presentation. These are all secondary to sales data. This lack of management feeds into staff at local level. Who arrive at work and simply interested in running the clock down. Which is why is you see these failing happenings.
@Jjudes9665 Жыл бұрын
I worked for them for three years back in the 1980’s, they and sadly many others are notorious for disrespecting people with guide or support dogs. When I worked for The Works, they could be just as bad, and at Christmas due to an excessive amount of stock around the store would even go as low as refusing to have those using wheelchair and mobility scooters access. Their checkout rule was for staff to ask every customer, even a blind one if they had found everything they were looking for. My late Dad was blind and he tore my manager and regional new rear ends over this when he witnessed them chastise me for refusing to ask a blind lady. 🤦♀️

Hi there. I am the person in the video. Thank you for your note. It’s not a criminal offence for a business or service provider to refuse a guide dog it’s a breach of the equality act 2010 and it is a civil wrong it is unlawful but not criminal in that context. It is however a criminal offence in England and Wales for private hire or Hackney carriage. Taxi driver to refuse or fail to carry a disabled passenger because they are accompanied by an assistance dog. Absolutely no question of prison, incidentally, but just as an aside. It’s not even a recordable offence for cabdrivers as far as the police national computer and so on. Just replying to actually rather than stating. I need you on this.
@jakedovey7488 Жыл бұрын
It used to be covered solely by the equality act but it is now also covered by a act of criminal law (can't remember which one) which also deals with on duty working police dogs in the UK, but it basically makes the offence civil law and criminal law, I literally had to ask a police dog handler that I know as well as a lawyer for confirmation because I am hopefully getting a hearing dog soon, so I am trying to learn my rights and the laws and regulations for assistance dogs
@seaninherts Жыл бұрын
@@jakedovey7488 I’m fairly sure this is a mistake? Are you referring to the service animals protection act 2019 otherwise known as Fonn’s Law? But definitely not covered with a disability legislation, but I am curious, fancy ask your friend? I think that’s what they’re talking about, but it’s unrelated to taxis and private hire.

No it isn't Finns law, but I can't seem to find the law on .gov anymore which indicates that the law has potentially been repealed or amended to no longer cover this situation, I will get in touch with the police dog handler for further clarification! But it looks like if you made a complaint against the store and then they eject/ban you it becomes victimisation which is a CRIMINAL offence and can be dealt with by the police, the only real exception I can see is that if a staff member or customer has severe allergies to dogs it gets very complicated straight away! However you are still potentially able to bring a civil claim/private prosecution against the store!

@@Richjack3 every dog is rancid, because dogs produce foul oil in their skin that grows yeast and bacteria, dogs also lick their anuses and eat feces, and then wipe their tongue across their body afterwards, dogs are coated in yeasts and bacteria including fecal bacteria and it stays glued to their bodies through the oil they produce. That is filth, it is rancid, and some people value cleanliness enough that they do not want such a dirty animal in their vehicle. Islam also prohibits allowing a dog in to a place of dwelling, because of how unclean dogs are, so attempting to force someone who follows islam or another religion with similar values to accept a dog in to their vehicle violates that person’s religious freedoms that are also protected by law.

Mind you I've been treated badly by both staff and customers in a local Tescos, because I have mobility issues. Also note Tescos are currently inflating their prices, way above many other supermarkets and running a con on their Clubcard, where if you use it, they lower the price down to what other supermarkets charge. As a person with mobility imparement I need to use a mobility scooter and do so respeonsibly. For about a month just as covid 19 rules got relaxed I was singled out in two supermarkets in town. First, in an Asda store, I was told by a member of staff that I had to leave store as my mobility scooter got in the way - I am a considerate person and make sure as much as possible that I do not get in the way. Second, and most horribly, I was continuously harassed in TESCO by the same member of staff - she would head straight for me as soon as she saw me and rant about me being a fake or liar and say that there was nothing wrong with me. In TESCO that woman also tried to accuse me of being abusive to her - until another shopper told her to back off as I had done nothing wrong. I stopped shopping at TESCO as a result of the way this woman treated me and only went back many moths later after a froend working at TESCO told me the woman had been sacked for mistreating other disabled or elderly customers. So! Maybe it is just the odd horrible member of staff that needs to be riegned in as some people say but in the mean time disabled people have to put up with this kind of appalling prejudice daily. Shops have signs telling us to respect the staff but respect is a two way street!
@anitamurray10272 жыл бұрын
Of course its fairly obvious the real reason this happens alot and especially down south....... far more muslim security guards who see dogs as unclean and simply don't want them around. But of course no one will dare talk about that for fear of being called all sorts... ( i remind you that being muslim is NOT a race ) A simple google search will show many stories of dogs being refused by taxi drivers, bus drivers and security guards as the dogs are "haram" and "unclean".... which is odd as the sharia council of england has ruled that they are not haram at all as they are performing a job. Its the LAW to allow guide dogs and those stores should be prosecuted and the staff re-educated.

Hi there. I am the person in the video, replying to you from the United States at the moment, working in Washington DC UK guide dog users. Do you have a card that explains the law and the law in England and Wales makes it unlawful to refuse access. In the United States, it’s a much more complex situation. Obviously you are covered by the Americans with disabilities act, but it becomes quite complex because there are an awful lot of issues in the states with service dogs that are not actually service dogs. I believe it’s actually a felony for someone to pretend an animal is a service animal, but the Americans with disabilities act and the fourth amendment to the United States Constitution prevents anyone having to show identification. I find the whole thing fascinating. I’m currently on the waiting list to train with a new guide and so making my way around North America with a white stick at the moment. All the best to you
