I’m a former neuroscientist. I left academia disappointed and fed up over a decade ago. I WISH I’d had Alex to talk to back then (and now!)! I’ve never heard anyone say so much that I’ve said myself almost word for word. I'm so impressed that Alex tells us to trust our own openion. We do know & don't need some PhD or title to authenticate reality for us. I was so happy to hear Alex say his first definition of consciousness is experience. This is what my conclusion has come to for me. Consciousness is the ability to have experience a rocks consciousness may experience the feeling of weight/heaviness. Or the grounding experience humans feel when they ground themselves in meditation. Putting your awareness into the body to experience solid stability. Awesome interview

Bernardo has said that physical reality is a representation and perhaps the eyeball is also a representation, but the more fundamental process of vision can be accessed with another means via the "mastermind". This may also explain why one can feel phantom pain after amputation, the representation of the limb is gone but the mind is accessing the fundamental "limbness" or limb-nature. This can also point to fundamental beings ("real" and "unreal"/non-physically represented) behind the veil being accessible despite the representations being dissolved (dead) or never truly realized i.e. fictional entities. This is probably the most fantastical extrapolation yet most coherent in my view.

I have been meditating on and off for many years and it is something I do especially after injury or when I’ve had surgery. I don’t take pain killers. I get really quiet and focus on the sensations of pain as opposed to staying stuck at the superficial level of pain (that is the label - ‘pain’), the nature of the pain then changes to amazing fluctuations of energy and vibration. It is no longer painful but mesmerizing, and with witnessing awareness simply follow the movements and patterns. To me it is like being part of the world at the quantum level - a level deeper than solid matter anyway, and is healing. I have also had other transcendental experiences and my heart sings to hear of scientists such as Alex and Federico Faggin who have had such experiences. The more scientists the better - especially those of the materialistic standpoint. I get it though as I was once a sceptic too, conditioned by my upbringing and education. There is so much more to being human, we are capable of so much more than we realise and indeed ‘love’ - ‘the universal glue’ as Alex calls it, is a love that knows no bounds except the restraints we impose on it.

I totally know and agre with all you were writing here. Why I know it, is becouse my own experience is exactly like your's. Late in life - in a period of malign illness - I found a place (a perspective) within, really only within, where there only is a quantum realm with all kind of accesable knowledge, when the place først is found. And the most interesting part of it, is there are no limit of this knowledge. It's like everything within this place tells everything about what's external and internal and how it's all play together in existence, and it telling that we all are a part of the same everything, that are the one the integration of all part to the one.

I like Dr Marin's response, when asked what advice he can give to the young. Most adults think that they can advise the young, on anything! But, this is not true. The adults may have more experiences, but that is all; experiences of a past generation, which may not apply in the youth's environment. That is why beliefs/dogma fail to address the reality of the moment! All in all, this was a perfect upload, of a conversation worth listening to.

As well as with no intention, just a yearning, a need or averting accidents which is how it works for me.

My neice and nephew can do this. Dan Winter explains it perfectly. It's all about the golden ratio cascade in brainwave harmonics which are phase locked with the heart. Creates an eye just like in a hurricane around the heart and pineal. Like a membrane. Think ear drum. Essentially any light/information radiating in the environment is heard by the heart and the phase locked brainwaves implode that information into the pineal. Lights up the rods and cones. Third eye sees what the heart hears in the environment. Golden ratio harmonics speak to fractal field dynamics that facilitate nesting and implosion. You also see octave harmonic cascades in brainwaves which has to do with crystallization and stabilization. It's wave mechanics. Perfect embedding is what the golden ratio is all about. The definition of compassion. Feeling what's outside inside.

As an English speaker, for me consciousness first involves awareness by and awareness of, and so there is a relationship wherein and whereby experience by an agent provides the potential to be and to act. Given this kind of equivalence of awareness, relationship and being, I think we then come to the powers of agents/beings to commune and interact.

If you have Mind, Matter and Energy, anything is possible. The whole work of creation and grace is a single operation common to all three, which operate according to their unique properties, so that all things are from the Physical Matter, through Universal Energy, and in the Conscious Mind. Each 3 parties are co-equal, co-eternal and consubstantial. The physical, universal energy and the conscious mind are of 'one entity' in that the Universal Energy is generated eternally of the Physical matter, from which the Conscious Mind, eternally proceeds.

Aristotle said that humans by nature want to know. I think he was essentially correct, but many humans in particular only want to feel that they know, and once they have reached that feeling their desire becomes to maintain that feeling. But a true philosopher or scientist does not rest on the feeling that they know because there is no end to knowledge, and so their feeling is always to question and know more.

The Hardest Problem of Consciousness We often hear of the hard problem of consciousness. Why is there qualia or experience of anything in the first place? I would submit there is an even harder and more important question - why do I seem to be a specific individual experiencing a specific subset of qualia? If material reductionism is to be relevant to the big questions, then it must explain not how brains generate consciousness but how the specific brain in my head could create the specific consciousness I seem to be looking out of the eyeballs of this specific body. Why do I PERSONNALLY EXIST as an individual in the first place? Out of the infinite matter in the universe how is it that only the three pounds in my head could create me? What is different about that three pounds for this to occur? Consider that billions of bodies showed up before this one. Billions showed up after this one. None of them seem to have created my existence. This body could be running around without it being ME just like these billions of others All bodies are made of the same elements. All brains have the same basic anatomy. If all brains are basically the same and are creating consciousness, then there should only be ONE consciousness looking out of every set of eyeballs simultaneously. A hopelessly superimposed existence from every possible viewpoint at once. I’m sure that materialists would claim that no, no, brains are so complex they are all different. Ok, so what would have to be recreated in another brain for me to exist looking out of another set of eyeballs? When the ontologies purporting to explain consciousness are examined critically it becomes obvious that all materialist/reductionist strategies fail completely in attempting to address the individuality question. What is the principled explanation for why: A brain over here would generate my specific consciousness and a brain over there would generate your specific consciousness. Integrated information over here would generate my specific consciousness and integrated information over there would generate your specific consciousness? Global workspace over here would generate my specific consciousness and global workspace there would generate your specific consciousness? Orchestrated quantum collapse in microtubules over here would generate my specific consciousness and orchestrated quantum collapse in microtubules over there would generate your specific consciousness? A clump of conscious atoms over here (panpsychicism) would generate my specific consciousness and a clump of conscious atoms over there would generate your specific consciousness? If an exact copy of my body was suddenly created in Antarctica, would I find myself to exist freezing there while also sitting in the comfort my living room? According to the physicalists that would have to be true or their argument collapses into incoherence. Materialism already fails since it cannot find a transfer function between microvolt level sparks in the brain and any experience or qualia. In addition, it’s not possible for materialistic ontologies to address this question of individuality since no measurement can be made that could verify my consciousness vs your consciousness and therefore no materialist ontology could make any coherent statements about the subject. How could pure awareness even be individualized? Physicalists demand measurements but with consciousness there is nothing to measure. There is electricity in the brain they say. We’ll measure that. Is electricity consciousness? If so, then once I again I should exist everywhere at once since electricity cannot be individualized. My blender uses electricity. Is it a genius? Unless materialists can answer these questions their premise collapses like the house of cards it is. As far as other ways of thought are concerned only Dualism and Idealism can account for our sense of individuality. Dualism assumes we are all individual spirits/souls matched up to a body through some undefined process. Idealism, which states that consciousness is primary also answers the question of why I seem to exist as an individual. One consciousness exists looking out of every set of eyeballs and in the process the illusion of individuality is created in each case. In actual reality I am you, you are me, we are one.

Wanted to offer my 5cents, if you allow me: The primordial Ocean of Consciousness, being One, is always what is- One. But, when more complex systems, especially living systems and even more especially with memory and even more especially with greater memory capacity, like we see in the gradual Evolutionary crescendo, each system gets entranced or connected or linked or interfaces with that One, and wherever the system goes in space, so does the endless Ocean of One Consciousness “emulates” or reflects all associations with that particular system. That’s why your consciousness is distinct from mine or spider’s or tiger’s… and in the morning you still wake up in your and not my body, and “return” after being unconscious for some hours to the body or system with its baggage and memory- which points to the specific experience it has accumulated and is anchored with. So each system becomes a cumulative aggregate of past experience, distinct while in body- and challenged while in death (disembodied). The challenge is that without the initial anchor, in which and where that particular experience happened there is not much strong (or durable forces like matter) to hold the memories together: so in death, they will drift into a subtle world (similar to our dreams where we go when disembodied temporarily during night). In the end though, all the layers of experience of individual consciousness are Maya, illusions (in the sense of their impermanence), they are composites (made up of many layers) - yet they are also immortal (in the sense that no matter how small or insignificant there will always remain a distinct copy of it, within the One Consciousness ocean. (Have you seen anything that does not resemble something else?) Meditation is the practice of systematically clearing the layers of composite experience in consciousness ( and unconsciousness as well) , with the result of reaching and recognizing the ground One - the basic essence of Consciousness. Of course, that process can also differ: some reach it mentally, some energetically, some through Love and Devotion, some through concentration, etc. And that will dictate what kind of “realms” that specific entity-consciousness will traverse. Yes, this is known to the East already for millennia- even though not very often found in its purest form without the burden of historical baggage. In summary: One pure limitless Ocean of Consciousness when anchored to a body system reflects and accumulates the experiences of that body system. And if something exists once- it will exist repetitively, driven by its will, tendencies and limits, in various always distinct yet always copy-cat versions. And just like your consciousness will allow any experience to happen to it, just like the Emptiness being able to devour any form, so will the One and only Consciousness Ocean allow and devour/embrace any experience in it, connected to a system-body. All distinct experiences are just a projection - on the endless Consciousness canvas of the One Ever Empty ever Full Pure Ocean Consciousness. Ultimately, Consciousness is Being. The only One - that Is. The only unchanging permanent, unborn, forever state- that we, since we arise from it, in our self-reflection can call it: Be-ing. That One is not a composite. It Is! What It Is. ( ‘I am the one who is!’- interestingly, each time any of us thinks of our experience, we also can say the same: I’m who I am! This is because Consciousness, is actually limited to being impossible to have anything outside of itself. But even here, for the sake of Lila (the cosmic play) consciousness executes a trick and is yet able to produce the illusion of “outside” of itself, just by virtue of anchoring itself to a body. Also, with memory are created unconscious habits and instincts and inborn tendencies, so rivers of distinct beings are produced. Yet, they all think the same: I’m me! In fact, they are all extensions of the only Me, only I, that exists, as little wavelets on the endless One Consciousness Ocean of I/Me. ) Amen!

Harmony Inner harmony resonates peace beyond words, symbols and cultural definitions. We are an ALL of thoughts flowing as one. We flow through each other like colored smoke or vibrations of sound. Eternal harmonies. ALL is as one. ALL equal, one identity. Love. We created an experience of forms with distances and the outcomes of time and individuality. Everything is an ALL experience. ALL within all. Gods, devils, angels, heaven, hell, NDEs, afterlife, before life and everything that individualizes is the experience. Outside of this experience, our eternal thoughts without form are free from duality definitions. Love. Some take comfort in individualism as amoeba in a drop of pond water. The All love is beyond all we know.

Wonderful interview, thank you... lots of curiosities though that are asking important questions (from my varied experience & perspective anyway aged 73) 1. Psychedelics - apparently instead of MORE brain activity (which is what it feels like), MRIs show less - so what wonderful connections are being activated to unify that transcendent experience? (Interestingly even alcohol brings a sense of caring & empathy before excess derails the sensed/brain). So maybe less brain activity rather than more (in the conventional rational sense is important here. 2. Multiple personalities - now called something else, sorry, can't remember the correct phrase... Each separate personality experiences & displays different skills, fears, allergies - physical symptoms (even blindness in 2 of the personalities i understand and not in the rest, according to a German representative of this condition). All in one body... 3. Meditation: anyone who does this regularly finds themselves connected to another higher realm of consciousness. The Eastern wisdom traditions & enlightened masters have tried to teach their wisdom for millennia. Anyway, long comment short.... So many wonderful avenues to explore regarding the ultimate mystery of consciousness. Thank you for this invigorating open-minded, proper scientific exploration into consciousness interview, and all the courageous work you are doing.

Towards the end of the video, Dr Marin mentions that it might be difficult to study psi phenomena due to - let's just say 'interference'. That's something I would like to see discussed more openly by psi researchers. I would also like to see detailed discussions of the decline effect and what it means for all scientific research, since although it was 1st observed in psi research it has also been found in relation to more mainstream studies (e.g., declining effect of anti-depressant medication over time across different cohorts). Then there's Radin's observation that sometimes intention has opposite effects - that is, a statistically significant effect in the opposite direction of what was intended. That's actually scary in terms of medical healing intention studies - what should IRBs make of this? Many view Terry Pratchet's Discworld series as making fun of beliefs in psi or magical phenomena. To me, the theme seems to be that these phenomena might be real, but are too unreliable and potentially dangerous to use - but perhaps I'm reading in my own biases.

Is this reopening of another sleeping sense or awakening of a bet-type of sonar detection or something else? After immersion in total darkness for some days many individuals start seeing in total darkness, including having remote perception, lucid open eye “hallucinations” or projections etc. Of course, all those experiences come with profound character transformations - proof of deep rare consciousness experiences. Must to be researched venue offering lots of room for exploration!

Consciousness is the initial separation from the One Mind. Perception is the result. Dualistic thinking is the trap. Silence is the bridge out and leads back to Self.

Alex is very interesting. When you asked 'what anchors scientific materialist into their fixed position?' He posits a couple of ideas. It's like what happens when a church going intellectual discovers Gnostic teachings and asks fellow church members what they think of the Demiurge? They'll shun him and suggest he is a satanist. So then he says Satan is just a Christian, Abrahamic concept, most of Asia does not even know of it. Well then, they'll want to burn him at the stake. So he says nothing. As science depends on funding you cannot suggest studying pseudoscience (as any heretical idea is called) as no funding will come and probably no funding for anything in future. So people tow the line, they conform. Alexander Shulgin (Sasha) became a heretic of organic chemistry. The accepted paradigm was drugs destroy, drugs kill, drugs are bad and if you go there you will die. So in his 20s he set up his own lab and spent the next 50 years making diverse and novel psychedelics, testing them himself and writing about his experiences. Both himself, his wife and a few friends. Now in his late 70s he is fit, philosophical, immersed in future novel compounds he wants to create and test and intellectually stimulating. He has exposed the dogmatic paradigm as nonsense while becoming a hero of the counter culture. The point is, we need heretics to stand up and wear the insult with pride; it moves evolution forward.

14:49 I have had just a few out of body experiences. They were vivid and realistic. However, upon going back into my body I noticed that several details of my room were different than how I saw them as a projection. This leads me to think that we are exploring not the real world but some possibility structure based on it.

Possibly multiple worlds or dimensions at the same apparent 'time'? Or an 'overmind' that sees everything all at once, but as apparent individuals we're focused only on small scraps?

@@Ladynipchick2yes exactly. The subatomic dinension goverrned by quantum mechanics is operating from its own dimension overlayed over the physical Universe. There is a hidden dimension around us which is supported by the the fact that Dark Matter makes up %85 of it. There has been growing consensus that conciousness is quantum in origin. That would mean while our physical bodies are present in this physical dimension, our conciousness is present in the subatomic dimension. As the both dimensions occupy the same local space they operate in synchrony.

re: the development of savant abilities after traumatic brain injury It's worth mentioning that although there is a lot of hype about neuroplasticity*, adult neurogenesis (creation of new neurons) is usually limited to the olfactory bulb and hippocampus. There is an exception - sometimes adult neurogenesis is initiated at sites of brain injury. This might account for new abilities if they develop over a period of time after the injury. If the new ability appears nearly immediately after the injury, then this explanation is less likely. (* but neuroplasticity is about more than neurogenesis - it's mostly about the ability to form new synapses and circuits)

Do you guys give actual lectures in buildings? Would love to attend a gathering of such minds rather than just watching online.

Most of our guests are located between 2-3 continents, so it would be impossible to share their views in face-to-face meetings. :) Pity of course, but that's the reality.

25 years ago, in the early years of Pari canter, the average age was 30. However, as the years went on the average age went up. One major reason for this was that the global economy became more unstable and cost of living, especially for people under 35 was more difficult.

In regards to the blind guy drawing - Have you tried to see if it’s different if you’re not in the room? Remove all measurement and see how it pans out then??? If you see what they are trying to see, does that change it? Is there a way it can be completely random so you guys don’t even know what the objects are?

Either you are mad or you are stupid.. oh god, that hits home. I knew I wasn't stupid (or just enough not to be catergorised as one) and my brain just went straight to.. you are mad. Never told exactly what I've experienced but to one soul and not fully. I knew I wasn't mad cause what I was experiencing had direct confirmation of from my flat mate... Anyway still shy away from talking about it. My body, as soon as I start going to that place in my mind starts tensing, one cause it was very intense as an experience but two.. cause I seriously thought I had lost my mind so I guess my amigdala doesn't recognize that as a nice thing.. all that cause of what he said in the video.. the stigma of being categorized insane, mad.
