Vervet Monkey Foundation I just have a question, when you guys brink monkeys in and have them in quarantine before allowing them around the other babies.. are they checked via blood for diseases or anything that can be harmful to other babies and humans ?

Now this is the way the cute creatures should be taken care of, not dressed in clothes and diapers and washes a zillion times . Will donate to this great sanctuary . But then these people really care about the welfare of these adorable monkeys.

I had been watching monkey videos where people are trying to make pets out of these animals (actually trying to make them be like human babies) and was getting so upset when I discovered your channel. The work you guys all do is so wonderful and you are to be commended for it. It's hard, long hours, and probably not great pay (if any) but you are doing right by these animals and not abusing them the way people are kidnapping, buying, and trapping them to take home. God bless you all.

I could watch these little ones pounce around all day!!! They are adorable. Reminds me of my old job, I worked at a Doggy Day Care, and I would sit after lunch and watch all of the puppies play & jump around. Even though it didnt pay well, it was seriously the best job EVER. I would wake up mad early in the am and I could not wait to get to work to see all of the doggos.

If I didn’t have chronic medical issues I for sure would be over there volunteering. You are all Angels to do what you do. You are all Empaths. To have that quality of being an Empath drives us to have an affinity with animals and feeling their pain. I have pet rats, they are my therapy pets. They one con about animals like rats is they have short lives, 2-4 years and I will look after them in their final stages but their loss is hard to handle.

I totally adore those little babies with all my heart..... They hold a special place. I pray that God will guide you on how to take care of the little ones that are blind on how to help them. The baby with the broken arm to you know did his owner do that to him? If he did please do your best to hold him responsible I hope he gets the same thing as he did to that baby. There is no excuse to hurt a baby any kind of baby. Kyle you are awesome with a capital A. When my money situation improves I will donate to you, you deserve it but until that time I watch all of the commercials and press like it may not be a lot of help but its better than nothing. Thank for the videos . I really do wish you would make them longer........ You do great work.........

So much wish it had been possible to hear the discussion about the babies who'd just arrived - but it was so quiet not even the CC could pick it up. I wanted to hear all about them, especially the poor malnourished little boy - wanted to hear what he had been fed regularly, and how his leg became broken - if he was the one with the broken leg. I felt so sad for the little girl with the broken leg who could not jump up to reach the plate of food that two others were eating, but had thoughtlessly put out of the reach of the little one. It should have been placed on the floor, or the baby should have been placed with the food, getting there before the others. I will forever be grateful that all of you are dedicated to the care and rehabilitation and long lifetime of these amazing Vervet monkeys. For many, what their lives had been before arriving at the Foundation was dreadful, and so unfair, as well as cruel. At the Foundation life begins immediately to become normalized. Diapers thrown away, as they should be, and fruits and vegetables arriving regularly to nourish body and spirit. They are safe, generally speaking, unless one of them gets out of line, perhaps from the scavenger troop, or the hateful ones that broke the skull of the tiny girl. That still breaks my heart. Have to wonder why, and why no other monkey would comfort her. I would go there immediately just to hold and comfort her, if I could, until she was ready for something else and an adult monkey appeared to genuinely care to adopt her.

This may sound funny, or awesome, who knows, but I'm sharing it.... I've been watching these videos for a while now, I guess since last summer... about the same time I decided to give up the idea of having a pet monkey, and instead got a bearded dragon. They have hands, too, so it's all good, lol. But watching these vervets eat, watching my bearded dragon eat, and learning more about veganism from your channel and links (and also from my new doctor), I'll just say I almost eat no meat at this point. Not the vegetarian way, either, with a lot of pre-packaged processed foods, but more the vegan way - just a pile of vegetables and fruit every day. I feel awesome, and a lot of my chronic health issues are now gone. Your channel has done more good than you know. I bet I'm not the only one, too. Just watching you put the plates of fruit and vegetables out for them, and them acting like the best tasting stuff in the world, makes me hungry for what they're eating, lol.

16:10 I'd initially thought that crunching sound was one of the monkeys eating.. 😂 Question Kyle, is that adopted baby nursing @ 16:12? I swear she had the Mom's nipple in her mouth. Is she just suckling like a pacifier or what? That's one awesome adoptive monkey mom.
@kiki29073
@kiki29073 5 жыл бұрын
It was nursing. I don't think its getting anything. Kyle said something about that in another video but, they can't count on the foster mom making milk. It's just comfort nursing. As you said a pacifier. I've seen a few other babies try with the moms but moms jerked away.
@PrimateProductions
@PrimateProductions 5 жыл бұрын
Yes it was suckling...called comfort suckling and even babies with their real moms that lactate very frequently comfort suckle when tired, upset, scared, sick, unhappy, or even just to snuggle etc. Much of the time when you see babies at their moms nipple they are likely to be comfort suckling rather than for nutrition (unless they are still very, very ypung)! So yes comparing it to a pacifier is correct. By moms allowing their babies to comfort suckle, rather than causing babies to be too dependent on them or "spoiling" them as you hear so many people complain about it is actually the exact opposite result. It helps them to gain confidence and feel secure which results in them being better able to learn about the world around them and more successful in social interactions with others!!🙂

Great videos. Does anyone here know the main difference between the Vervet Monkeys of Africa and the Rhesus Monkeys of Asia? Look similar. Most likely a common monkey ancestor.

They both old world monkeys of the family Cercopithecidae but the Genus:Macaca of the Rhesus and that of the vervet Chlorocebus is where it splits and makes them quiet far apart

Does a situation ever arise that necessitates a capture and removal from the Troop? After or during the intense week long monitoring of new baby releases to Troop, has there ever been a poor outcome?
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 5 жыл бұрын
No. The only reason we would need to remove a baby from the troop after release is due to serious injury. But there is never going to be a poor social outcome, simply because of the amount of time the babies spend with the troop in the intro enclosure, those months are not just about waiting for the babies to reach the right age, but they're about the babies and the troop getting to know each other so that everyone is ready for the integration.

Maybe this has been asked but do you ever sit any of the healthy monkeys free?
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it's not as simple as just setting a "healthy" monkey free. Um, the short answer is that we cannot release individual monkeys unless we know for certain where their troop is and that it is for sure their troop. So we only release individuals who come to us injured that then recover if we know exactly where they came from and can guarantee its the correct family. Because you can't just release a vervet into the wild into any troop because they'll kill each other. Males around 5 years old stand a good chance of being released but only if they've begun their migratory pattern for mating purposes. Otherwise the only way to do a release is to release an entire troop and the VMF will only release a whole troop if we can be positive that the troop will survive the release and this is mostly due to survival in relation to humans and the biggest issue here is that no one wants Vervets released anywhere near their property, so what happens with way too many sanctuaries is they do a release and then 2 months later the whole troop has been murdered. It's a tough reality to deal with.

do the adoptive moms have milk for the adopted baby to nurse them?
@AuntCathyPooh
@AuntCathyPooh 5 жыл бұрын
The adoptive Moms aren't lactating so that's why the babies are trained to go into the drinking cages so they can still get the milk they need for their first year of life. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that, Kyle 💜

Growing up I always wanted a monkey. After watching your videos and others like you and what u do. I feel so bad. And I’m so glad I never got one. HOW do you feel with all these people having pet monkeys? A lot of them are popping up in my feed after watching yours and it makes me so sad and heart broken just watching these people have them as pets. How do you feel about this? And when you look at the comments under those other videos where they have a pet monkey it’s 100s of people saying they want one. I think it should be illegal to have a pet monkey. So sad.

Kyle - a couple of questions: Is fostering as automatic and as common an occurrence in the wild? Are Vervets the most likely to foster as compared to other species? What other species do fostering? Thanks.
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 5 жыл бұрын
I honestly have no idea. I don't think there are any studies regarding fostering in the wild, but also it would be hard to study such an occurrence. But my best guess would be to say it's doubtful, especially considering how so many orphans are found beside their dead moms with no troop in sight. If they're gone that far away, they're not coming back and the fostering with us isn't easy or automatic. It seems pretty pain free cause I don't always film the stuff that goes wrong or the little things that happen. You'll see a little more what I mean a couple episodes from now when we integrate the Robert babies Dixie and Darcy, those moms have no experience fostering and the troop really didn't know how to react to the two new babies, but that's all I'll say for now. Also you gotta think about the fact of how often these moms ignore the babies when they first come in, I mean if you watch all the moms meeting the babies videos I think what you'll see is more often than not it takes quite a while for the babies and moms to bond and they are forced to because they are in the intro enclosure together, so I think their interest in having a baby is a natural instinct and I think taking a baby for themselves is natural, but I don't know if the attempt at bonding and really choosing that baby as there own is something that would happen without some forceful intervention. But again this is all just my own inference based on observation. I have no idea if they are more like to foster than other species, not a clue. I know Babboons can foster in sanctuaries, but I dunno lol I'm no primatologist I'm just a film maker who likes monkeys and learning. But! Maybe as I travel to other sanctuaries and learn about their programs and monkeys, we will be able to answer some of those questions together.

Do the foster moms get stressed out when they have to stay with the babies until they are 3 months old in an enclosed area? Also they don’t mind them suckling on them I’m assuming? I know usually if a baby monkey try’s to latch on to them when it’s not their actual baby they don’t allow it at all? It’s very interesting to see. I have seen 2 of the monkeys allow the baby’s to latch on to the breast. Quite amazing. Also do they get milk at all I wonder from constantly doing it or is it solely for comfort?

@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 5 жыл бұрын
It totally depends on the individual monkey if she is gonna get stressed but this is why we allow females to come and go and why certain females make better foster moms than others All of the moms allow the babies to suckle. Nothing weird or strange or unique about it, just happens that I'm not always filming or including footage of the babies suckling, but its about the most common thing you can see happen with a baby and its mother no matter if its natural or foster.
