Just FYI, I'm even older than you. ;) With all the negativity in the news, social media, and most entertainment these days, I personally think it's healthy to embrace something that provides positive, moral lessons. I think too many people stop feeling things they should feel, focusing too much on negative emotions. And yeah, I hear ya on that song. I didn't quite cry, but I had chills the whole time listening to it, and it's easily one of the best songs in the entire series. Season 5 really was the season of feels, on many levels. Last episode of AKR. She's leaving the series in a high note. We'll miss her, sinche she wrote some of the best episodes in the series, and she was specially good in this, her last season. And what an episode, disappointing for those who watched the Animatic from the SDCC. In this case, the hype for this episode backfired. But! Not a bad episode at all, like i said. Actually, it get's better and better the more i see it. It's a weird episode, because the 1st time you see it, you can think "Meh, the story is kind of generic". And, you may be right, but oh boy, you're so wrong. This is very, very realistic. When you think about it, in every freaking other series, the "diva" wouldn't listen, being a total idiot until the main character finds some ultra-exagerated way to catch the "Shitty manager", and that's when the diva realises the real deal. But, here, AJ just asked for an oportunity to prove it, and she accepted. That's a lot more real than the super-complicated plans. Plus, the diva it's not actually a diva, she just enjoys the things that come with being famous, and that is pretty god damn normal. That's, in my opinion, the best thing about this episode. Besides de songs, of course. Lena Hall was awesome here. In the overall, i give this episode an 8/10. Amazing. And, for the reaction, man, i love you (no-homo), you're so expresive that it's impossible not to like you. Next week, we're going to explode with the season finale, so... HYPE.
@applegeek25979 жыл бұрын
+Bill Erak Dragón Dorado Hmm, I've seen this kind of story in other shows and movies, and I actually thought it seemed almost a bit TOO easy to convince RaRa, but taken in the context of a kid's cartoon and the limited amount of time in the episode, I thought the premise was adapted very well. Also, what set the tone for me for RaRa's personality was her reaction when AJ asked if she remembered her from camp. Her face lit up and she was about to reunite with her hold friend, until the JERK stepped in and talked her back into her Countess persona. Her anticipation of meeting the school ponies further solidified my opinion that she hadn't completely sold out, and thus it wouldn't be too terribly hard to get her to see the light. Thinking more about this episode, it's definitely my top favorite Applejack episode, for the moment at least, but even with that said, I later realized that this episode was really more about RaRa. AJ didn't necessarily grow much as a character in this episode, but rather did what she does best (being honest and true, kind of the theme of the episode) in order to help her old friend. I can't help but think back to the Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 episode where AJ writes to Princess Celestia to say "I didn't learn a thing, I was right all along!" Anyway, thanks again for the compliments. I love the fact that I'm finally getting some comments on my more recent reactions. The interaction makes this a lot more fun for me, and gives me some validation that people actually like watching my stuff.

Funfact: Svengallop is a play on the the name Svengali who (directly quoting Wikipedia) "Is a fictional character in George du Maurier's 1895 novel Trilby. Svengali is a Jewish man who seduces, dominates and exploits Trilby, a young English girl, and makes her a famous singer". So Svengallop is Svengali and Ra Ra(Coloratura) is Trilby.

My favourite part of the final performance is how Rara's cutie mark glows when she begins really getting into it. We saw in Crusaders of the Lost Mark (when Diamond Tiara's Cutie Mark glowed at the end) that a glowing cutie mark is essentially the same as rediscovering your purpose. When her manager got exposed Rara was clearly unsure whether her talents were enough for the concert and essentially lost her purpose for a moment until AJ reminded her that it was actually her talent all along that people came to see, not the lights or the stage. Which ironically made the most beautiful light show so far. I assume that's why it panned to the CMC, to really drive that point.

15:50 Oh, she's just doing a classic Watergate ;) Also using a unicorn horn as a holographic projector confirmed ;) ("Help me, Starswirl the Bearded, you're my only hope" heheh ;J ) 20:10 Apparently she can sing in aliquots :J 24:50 Looks like the CMC's talent for helping other ponies to find their true selves is hereditary :D In this episode, it was AJ who helped her old friend to "see the light of her cutie mark" and make it shine again :) 28:00 The name of hat manager pony, Sven Gallop, is also symbolical. It is a tricky little reference to Svengali ;) Let me quote: *"Svengali is a Jew of Eastern European origins, who seduces, dominates and exploits Trilby, a young English girl, and makes her into a famous singer. The word 'svengali' has come to refer to a person who, with evil intent, dominates, manipulates and controls a creative person such as a singer or actor."* (from Wikipedia) *"One who manipulates or controls another as by some mesmeric or sinister influence; especially a coach, mentor or industry mogul."* (from Wiktionary) I think he fits these descriptions perfectly ;> as well as the entire plot of this episode :> 28:45 Yup, Sassy Saddles at least had some justification for her actions. This guy hadn't :P BTW can you see the pattern emerging with Amy's recent episodes? ;J I mean, compare "Canterlot Boutique" with this one, and you can pretty much guess why she's leaving Hasbro :P

+Bon Bon Wow, so some people really do listen to my post-episode ramblings. Thanks for the feedback! ^_^ And yeah, I know I don't get all the references and symbolism while doing these, so thanks for sharing the bit on Svengallop/Svengalli. Oh, also realized later that RaRa is likely a reference to Lady Gaga. Regarding the song, yes, I noticed she was singing multiple parts simultaneously, only one of many things technically wrong with that scene, but I couldn't care less in this case, because that song was EPIC! Really hope we see RaRa again next season.

For some reason, I get the feeling her cutie mark glows like that when she is singing something she genuinely enjoyed singing vs when she was singing songs that manager guy of hers most likely put together living the show to be shown mainly though his piled on additions to her voice which imo seems to work better for the type of songs like the one she sang as a foal and the one she did when her setup (makeup, outfit etc) were on the plainer scale compared to her voice, they were the background her voice was the main. (I can't remember the actually song titles), but basically, for some reason I feel her cutie mark was supposed to show she was enjoyed singing that particular song, at that show, from what I could see that never happened when she had that full outfit; makeup; light show and dancers there, it felt to me like she wasn't the star, he was, he just wasn't on stage. Like a puppet master, putting on a show with his singing and dancing puppets, with the big flashy lights, and eye catching outfits. Anyone else get a similar feeling?

@franksmedley86198 жыл бұрын
Hello Apple Geek. A few things you probably know by this point, but I wanted to point out to you anyways... Ra-Ra, aka: Countess Coloratura's name. A coloratura is a singer that can hit high notes quickly, accurately, and both on tempo and on key. Usually referring to a soprano. Countess Coloratura might translate into 'Queen of Singing'. Ra-Ra herself was voiced and sung by Lena Hall, an Emmy Award winning actress and singer on Broadway, who is quite the pony fan. At a low point in her life, she stumbled upon MLP, about mid third season and was hooked. So when Hasbro approached her to do a part, she leaped at it. Also, at her acceptance speech for the Award, she said 'Friendship really is Magic'. A LOT of the pop star managers are like Sven Gallop, and yes, Sven Gallop is a play on Sven Ghoulie from the old tv series. You know how the MLP staff love their puns, and allusions to other things. As if Crusaders of the Lost Mark was not enough, we see Sweetie Bell's magic has indeed improved, possibly due to Twilight's mentoring, as we saw her TK a triangle up for her sister to ring to end the song, just as she had when she and Ra-Ra were fillies. But, to me, this is one of the best episodes of the entire series. It's message that one can make mistakes and go on with life and still be true to one's self, and that being true to one's self is important, is a message all should take to heart. Getting someone as awesome as Lena Hall to do this, is pretty awesome by itself. And, it didn't hurt a bit that she's such a big fan as well. I guess I have another contender for Best Background Pony... since Ra-Ra just bumped a few off my list. :)

You know what the out of place hoovesies Rara gives AJ means? What I take it to mean, due to the fact AJ brought up that they were "fake kisses" is just that. An implied kiss to AJ. And what a story that would be! Size and age are two things that haven't related well in MLP pretty much ever, so we don't know the ages they were when they were at the camp. Rara didn't sound like she was trying to sing in a childish tone, and that may be for reasons outside of the show, but I think that either way, it's fair to assume they weren't kids anymore, even if it's obvious they weren't adults (I'm trying to avoid the term teen or adolescent since teen gets confusing when translated to pons and adolescent is one of those words that people make their own definitions of) Anyways, to get back on track, the two of them spent a whoooole lot of time together at the camp, wrote to each other a bit, then eventually stopped. Apple pony and Rara were both at the ages that they'd start getting a bit curious... well... puberty. Seeing each other so close they may very well have found an attachment growing between them. A summer camp couple who had to split up because of the distance. How, both beautiful and tragic, is that?.. and they stayed in touch for so long that AJ had told Rara about Applebloom! AJ even cried as she saw her fillyhood friend singing as herself again. AJ is very tough and hardly cries at times that emotional, or even more so. I'm probably looking way too far into this

i don't like that the "bad" version of rara is portrayed as more of pop music/electro and her "good" version as this ballad singer, music is the most subjective thing

The part of the music before they start singing in Equestria, The Land I Love sounds like the Let It Go beginning. XD

Equestria is our world. A World where bronies and pegasisters are united as one. A world where friendship is the first priority! I’ll be devestated when this show ends next year. All the good memories of watching these episodes throughout the past years. All the friendshiplessons we’ve all learned. IDC, that “Equestria, the land I love” song has gotta be the signature-song of this bronyfandom!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I think Countess Coloratura obviously represents lady ga ga when she was singing frazzle dazzle. Also Lena Hall really should be the big pop star instead of Sia judging by how good her song, "the magic inside" is in comparison to Sia's god but reletivly inferior by comparison song "rainbow" is in the movie.

This episode is perfect! It really aroused great emotions in me because I love music. I love to sing and this episode is all about music. There are three things I love the most. Sports, fashion and music. And when I do sports, I'm completely confident like Rainbow Dash and also exstreme, but when I do music and dress more girly this is where my girly side opens up. It feels wonderful when I sing. I just hold the microphone and I start singing and I open all my emotions. My sister is the same. We do a lot of things together and singing is one of the things, we usually do together. It is just beautiful. What can I say? When I talk about music, I show a lot of positive emotions. I love pop and rock the most, that's we are combination od Rainbow, Rarity and Pinkie because we love sports like Rainbow and we are also girly like Rarity and we love singing like Pinkie Pie. Well she sings a lot. She must love it. One day we are tough and confident sporty girls, second day we are girly pop stars but the ones who sing honestly. We often sing for our friend and we both are like a sirens only with the difference that we send positive emotions.

Side note, have you seen the Demand fan comic, it has Sven Gallop (the manager) and Pinkie, if you haven't watched it yet, watch it, it might be majorly creepy, but it feels soooooo good seeing Sven getting his JUST deserts, and that PINKIE deliverers it.

A awesome pony version of Lady Gaga. It's like Lady Gaga is a old friend with Miley Cyrus. And a perfect timing for the first movie has create a pony version of Sia in MLP The Movie.

I can so relate to applejack with seeing your friends change, RaRa is actually too much like my real-life ex-friend except much nicer than she actually is. I relate to this episode so much! I just really hope one day that maybe, she and I will end up how this episode ended and mend our relationship.

Yeah definitely the best Applejack episode, she was fantastic in this. Really hope that we see Rara again; I have heard that she would like to guest star again so it is a possibility. (So here's to hoping). XD. It's such a shame that Amy Keating Rogers left, she left for Disney, so here's hoping that she'll go on to do big things! She was one of my favorite writers, right up there with M.A. Larson and Meghan McCarthy. XD.

I miss Amy Keating Rogers and several of the original Season 1-4 writers. Some of the Season 5-6 writers don't completely do the characters justice or maintain the continuity with the story lines and story arcs. I have faith that Dave Polsky and Josh Haber will come through for us.
