"I want to be remembered as the hero I was, not the disappointment I've become" might be one of the most powerful lines in the series without any other context needed. It's really hard to dig yourself out of that mindset when there's nobody by your side to show you another way. Your analysis was spot-on, and I thought the note you ended the video with was perfect.

You know what Rockhoof should do? Live in Yakyakistan. It would be perfect. He could probably break things with having to worry about it, like he seems to tend to do a lot, and Yona would be so happy to see him anytime she comes home for holidays. Plus, it doesn't really seem like he has a place to live, since he said he can't go back home.

"Why do the Hippogriffs need ships if they can turn into sea ponies?" Well, even if Hippogriffs could simply transform into sea ponies keeping a navy is a reasonable idea, ships would be used mainly for trading and transport purposes with the other lands, furthermore because of the location of Mount Aris, which is surrounded by water, it would be vital to maintain a defense fleet, specially after the Storm King's invasion.

Rockhoof appeared to be a stand in for a soldier, returning from war, feeling the world they once knew has changed and maybe they no longer fit. Sometimes they fail to find a job afterward and/or lose their sense of purpose; which can be incredibly demoralizing. It's even harder when you see your fellow soldiers/friends manage to move on and even thrive(IE Flash Magnus or Mist Mane).

My history teacher was a storyteller. He would tell us things outside of the books. Including the weird/bizarre/gruesome facts. He one time came into class dressed as a medieval knight, in full chainmail. He was also somewhat of an archaeologist and would sometimes bring in stuff that he found, such as Roman coins. He was a funny guy and treated the students very casually, talking more as a friend than an authority figure, and even messing around with the students and making fun of them in a teasing way if they said something embarrassing 😂

I liked this episode. This episode, interesting enough, seem to talk to grandparents or parents, rather than to children. Whoever says that MLP is just a children's show really do not watch at least most of the episodes. From what I gathered, even when you are out of your prime in life, you are not useless. You do not have to sit at home, feeling sorry for yourself, wasting your life away. You can teach the next generation of knowledge and wisdom and experience that you have learned. But the one thing that rubs me the wrong way is when Rockhoof tries to put out a fire. Applejack says that they need a teacher rather than a hero. So if the school was on fire for real, would I help because they need a teacher more than a hero? I don't know. I know where they are getting at, but he was still trying to do what is right. They should be a little faster of explaining themselves first. But overall, I really enjoyed this episode and the deep lesson as well.

Another one of my hopes and wishes for S8 fulfilled, yeah! I’m so glad that we got some exposition on what the other five Pillars are doing these days in modern Equestria, it brought a smile on my face. I’d figure that at least one of them would feel out of place in Equestria and it just so happened to be Rockhoof. I felt bad for him not being able to stay at his homeland, let alone accomplishing daily jobs in Ponyville. I had thought that Rockhoof would be welcomed at Yakyakistan for his storytelling and other talents. Besides that, I’m happy that he is very much appreciated by Yona and the others. Nothing about what she planned to do was impuslive, not on her part. We've seen what Starswirl has been up to since the Season 7 finale. Now it's time to check in on the other Pillars. Particularly Rockhoof. Here are my highlights: 1:52-1:59 Yes it is. 1:55 There's that Archeologist pony from before. Also, hi Berry Bunch and Lemon Hearts - I didn't know you were into this sort of thing. 1:56 Hi Indiana Jones Pony. 1:59-2:12 And there's Rockhoof. Also, Applegeek's reaction - plus he brings out his checkmark. 2:21 I saw him first, Applegeek. 2:26-2:49 Rockhoof starts kicking a ball around, unaware it's now considered an artefact. 2:49-2:58 No, you shouldn't have. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 2:58-3:08 The Archeologist consults with Princess Twilight about Rockhoof. 3:03-3:07 He isn't sent there, unfortunately. 3:08-3:10 "Professor Fossil"? That's a fitting name. 3:10-3:17 A Pillar teaching at the School of Friendship? We've wondered if something like this would happen. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 3:17-3:33 Rockhoof eats wooden fruit and tosses it out the window. Also, Rarity and Applegeek's reactions. 3:33-3:36 That line and Twilight's face. 3:46-3:56 Yes, we're are going to see the rest of the Pillars. A lot sooner than you think. 3:58-4:03 It doesn't happen in this episode, unfortunately. I think she'd be aware of his return already. 4:12-4:54 Hi Young 6, Cozy Glow and my favourite Student Pony with the bow. Also, it looks like they've gotten a lot more students since the school first opened. Before there was only 18 of them and they were mostly teenagers. Now have more fillies and even grown adults too - most of them, probably, from Las Pegasus. 4:31-4:36 That line. 4:36 Rockhoof breaks the stage. Also, Smoulder's comment and Applegeek's reaction. 4:44-4:46 Yeah, no. There's no way you're lifting him out of there, Spike. 4:55-5:01 Smoulder thinks some of the Mane 7 are weird? 5:01-5:16 Yona likes Rockhoof because he's a lot like a yak. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 5:12-5:17 Sandbar always gets into these sorts of things doesn't he? The Mane 7, the Storm King's defeat, Hearth's Warming Eve and the Pillars. 5:17-5:27 Rockhoof makes a 'smashing' entrance. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 5:27-5:29 Rockhoof leans on a desk and almost crushes it. 5:29-5:32 Rockhoof has come unprepared. 5:32-5:36 Agreed. Would we ever expect any less of her? 5:42-5:46 I guess you could say that, Rockhoof. 5:46-5:55 Gallus tries to take advantage of Rockhoof's ignorance. Very smooth, indeed. 5:55-7:22 Rockhoof tells a tale of when he fought off an Ursa Major. Everybody is interested (including Smoulder). Also, Applegeek's reaction. 6:20-6:24 I can imagine that would be hard, Twilight. 6:29-6:32 Applejack, that's the equivalent of saying "what could possibly go wrong?" 6:32-6:36 I think I agree with that point about the CMCs, Applegeek. 6:33/6:38 Those faces. 6:42-6:46 I have no idea - just leaning on it nearly crushed it earlier. 6:48-6:53 Gallus, Yona and Silver Stream pretend to be Ursa Majors. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 7:05-7:13 That got dark and then comical really quick. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 7:13-7:16 Probably. 7:18-7:27 That was funny. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 7:37-7:40 That it is. It's what made the place better than when it was under EEA regulation. 7:39-7:58 Rockhoof has trouble with low vines and hanging baskets. 7:51-7:55 Applegeek and I agree, Rockhoof. 8:02-8:43 We find out what's really going on in just a moment, but I don't blame Rockhoof for reacting this way. Would you act any differently if you saw fire in the windows? Also, Applegeek's reaction. 8:05-8:12 Rockhoof has PTSD. You said it first, Applegeek. 8:12-8:16 You'll soon find out. 8:13-8:25 Yona's day gets better. 8:18 Rockhoof breaks another wall. 8:18-8:43 Hey, if anything, he'd make a great firefighter. 8:21-8:29 Rockhoof flips the Young 6 with his shovel. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 8:44-8:51 Wet mane Rarity. Incidentally, she's the one who started that whole meme way back when. 8:47-8:52 Pinkie goes surfing. She even says "calobunga". 8:56-9:10 Spike and Smoulder were having a fire-breathing competition. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 9:10-9:15 Those are some very good questions, Applegeek. 9:14-9:19 Applejack's face. 9:26-9:30 You think so, Applegeek? 9:30-9:43 Rockhoof moping about not having a place he belongs to in the modern world. 9:46 Pinkie still surfing. 9:50-11:10 The Mane 6 struggle to find Rockhoof a new job. 9:50-10:01 Applegeek has a good idea, Twilight. 10:02-10:27 Rockhoof as mail pony. He has no sense of direction and reveals too much personal info. Also, Spike and Applegeek's reaction. 10:11 Hi Lemon Hearts. 10:20-10:24 Does Cranky Doodle alternate between the wigs he wears? 10:28-10:48 Rockhoof as a spa pony. He gives Bulk Biceps a taste of his own medicine and it makes him scream. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 10:38 Hi Twinkle Shine. 10:42-11:10 Rockhoof tries to help Zecora with supplies. He brings her a whole tree full of bees, rather than a few leaves, and she gets stung. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 10:54 That sound. 11:10-14:51 I'm glad we get to see what all the Pillars are up to, not just Rockhoof. It looks like they've all settled in nicely to the modern world. 11:20-11:30 Applegeek is excited. 11:30 Hi Minuette. 11:31-11:37 Hi random pony walking across the frame. I agree, Applegeek. 11:40-12:24 Flash Magnus has become the Head Drill Sergeant of the Royal Canterlot Guard. I wonder if he's met another Flash we know? 11:50-11:52 Maybe. 11:53-11:56 "You old ditch-digger, you." That line works so well. 12:09-12:16 Hopefully we'll see her again, Applegeek. 12:24-12:59 Mist Mane has become the Royal Landscape Artist for the Crystal Empire. Everybody is impressed, even Applejack - and especially Applegeek. 12:59-13:39 Somnambula has become a meditative motivational speaker. 13:03-13:12 Just look at Applejack. You said it first, Applegeek. 13:22-13:34 Twilight sits cross-legged. Rockhoof doesn't. 13:40-13:55 Rockhoof is so relaxed he falls asleep on-top of somepony. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 13:49 Hi Derpy and Minuette. 13:49-14:51 Mage Meadowbrook has returned home to continue her old ways of making and selling healing remedies. 13:51 Hi Cattail. Also, those are some interesting pony designs it the background. 14:10-14:14 Rockhoof sits down heavily. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 14:12-14:222 Rockhoof's problem is that he can't do his old job, adapt it to modern times, succeed at something new, or go home like his friends. 14:23-14:27 This is true. 14:29-14:51 Even Stigeon has been doing well for himself. He's now a successful novelist. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 14:39-14:41 Twilight, you know you're reading that backwards, right? (Continued in my other comment.)

The problem is less the stars moving, but more the fact that there are stones and islands in the fog - when Rockhoof never traveled these waters.

That ending... I always though that Rock Hoof would be an amazing Yakyakistan's ambassador or something like that, no give him an improvised, unimportant job that doesn't solve the problem
@JJScene2 жыл бұрын
Story telling is a wonderful job. He could travel the country telling stories. It's not uncommon to be a showpony.
@GuyWithNoNickName2 жыл бұрын
Well, you missed the point of the episode then. It wasn’t just about “finding a job”, it was about purpose. Also about inspiration. You don’t need to have the best job or be a big warrior hero to be important. Rockhoof didn’t feel like he had a purpose, but he inspired Yona. She looked up to him, and thought he was the greatest. Having others in your life that you inspire is worth living for. He wasn’t a warrior anymore, but he was still a hero. If all Rockhoof needed was a fitting job, he would’ve got one. Realistically, there are plenty ways Rockhoof could’ve fit in if he just adjusted further, but that wasn’t the point of the story.
@dolphinsnape2 жыл бұрын
@@GuyWithNoNickName yeah And my point is, it wasn't that hard to find a place where he could fit in, it was righr in front of their noses

Wait, is this the closest thing to suicide in mlp?! Dang, this show is brutal sometimes...
@giantbrayford77543 жыл бұрын
Nope, it actually gets even closer in No Second Prances. Trixie does a magic act that involves shooting herself out of a cannon right into the mouth of a manticore. Then, she magically teleports out of the manticore. Problem is though, that Trixie can't teleport herself, so she actually would need an assistant. Unfortunately, after that misunderstanding that happened shortly before, Trixie was on her own. She was going to do the magic trick hoping that Starlight would come back and help her out. She couldve died if Starlight had not stayed around. There is also another example. In Discordant Harmony, Discord actually goes normal for once to try to please Fluttershy. However, this proves to be bad, as because Discord is the embodiment of chaos and disorder. Him trying to be normal was making him fade away. Eventually, he is saved before he could completely fade, and afterwards learns that he doesn't need to be normal for Fluttershy, and that she is happy the way he is.

5:20 OH-YEEEEAAAH!! 6:10 You mean Fizzlepop Berrytwist? 8:45 D'OH! Why did I not clue in on wet mane earlier? 9:10 Maybe the room is fireproof; maybe it's made of gems like Twilight's castle. But if it was, would Smolder eat it? 11:00 Olay, I know he's out of his time; but that's just stupid. He should know better than that. At least it's not the tree from 'A Health of Information'. 11:25 Yay, it's North Point from 'Canterlot Boutique'. 11:50 And the sunny mare fans call "Sunshine Smiles". Now where's the goth mare? 13:00 Why am I reminded of the "feelings forum" from 'To Change a Changeling'? 15:55 Because ships are great for hauling cargo and bringing non swimming creatures along. 16:25 The constellation Pac-man; HAH now you can't unsee it. 16:35 D'OH! You called it. 17:30 Wow, from ponies turning I to trees to ponies being turned to stone, tbis show is getting dark. What's next, 'Cupcakes'? 18:40 So Twilight just agreed to turn Rockhoof into stone and you're focused on substitute teacher Spike? 19:00 I see what you did there; and no he's not. 19:10 You mean "FANdering? Hey, there are dumber puns on 'Secrets and Pies'. 27:00 You saw him on the book cover. I'll go sit in the corner now 23:20 "...and plenty of changelings..." Rockhoof has a point, who knows how many among the crowd are changelings. 27:45 I personally thought Rockhoof's story was dumb; he just got really strong all of a sudden without any sort of cause. He didn't pick up a magic shovel, he wasn't given strength by a supernatural entity, no nuclear kinetic device, no bite from a radioactive animal; he just got strong for no reason at all. 40:25 You think Yona might have found more common ground with Smolder; dragons also love smashing things and doing all kinds of extreme physical competitions. Speaking of such, seeing Smolder regularly competing with Spike; I wonder if she'll catch his eye.

This was a fun episode with some really deep feels sprinkled in. "Just because something's old, doesnt mean its useless, or that you need to toss it away." Also, Yona crushing on/idolizing Rockhoof was just adorable XD especially when she pulled out that little trowel. Someone did an adorable piece of art based on that: derpibooru.org/1833604?q=rockhoof%2C+yona

What Rockhoof was proposing was even worse than suicide if you think about it because creatures turned to stone are still conscious. He would never be free of his internal suffering. Not dead, nor alive, feeling only pain forever. That is one of the darkest implications I've seen from a kids show, and certainly something I wouldn't expect from MLP, but they handled this subject matter with the care it needed to work. For that, this episode has my utmost respect.

I honestly don't think he knew that's what would happen to him. He likely thought it would be like sleeping because everyone kept calling it Stone "Sleep".

Really liked this one. Showing that that not every pony has adjusted well after being out of the loop for 1,000 years. Who can really blame him? I agree, this episode would of been better served as a CMC episode where they help Rock Hoof find purpose.

04:00 Yeah, that would actually make a lot more sense :J 06:35 Exactly. Kinda like their Troubleshoe case. 09:56 Well, you can always send him to the Yaks. They love smashing things :q 14:00 How about un-enchanting those ponies that are still trees? :q 14:34 What's next? "50 Shades of the Shadow Pony"? :J 17:20 So we pretty much reached the point where we have mentioned euthanasia in MLP :P Could there be anything darker than that? :P 23:06 Yeah, tell her about that Dragon you slaid once ;J She said she likes stories about weak creatures getting defeated ;J

I wonder... were Spike and Smolder in the same room Spike run into during his Molt? With the uncontrollable fire then, now there's nothing left for them to burn... and I suppose fire-breathing contest is also learning about dragons (for Spike), and how to manage the fire etc.

You gave me an idea. Hasbro really should publish kids novels of all the fiction within fiction we've seen in Equestria. Stigien's books, Shadow Spade, and Daring Do. J.K. Rowling did this with 'The Tales of Beedle The Bard.'
