This was an inspired idea, someone who can play, but has been away, gives you a true blind test. His honesty is refreshing, he also had an open mind. You need him on the channel more often. This does suggest that zero torque works, mind you those of us that have had a video fitting knew that.

Two additional points… I also game an odyssey number nine black. Just in case people did not know, it is a very strong arc putter. So it is an interesting test to compare to the zero torque putters.👍 Secondly, I just came from Golf Town here in Canada and was tinkering with the Evenroll zero torque putter. I think I just fell in love with it. I tried to just let it swing itself, and I was making three out of four or more at every hole I practised with. I have never even considered an Evenrole putter before, but it is certainly another one to put into this mix and think about for future. The cost was ridiculous, but maybe I’ll wait a year or two and sell off one or two putters that I already have. And additionally, see if that putter comes down a little bit in price?
@garymartingolf

How much was it? I thought it was a good test to compare, it gave us a greater change for him to feel something between torque and no torque.

Great idea for a video, and I actually think he did feel the difference but just didnt know how to articulate it, he continuously kept saying the lab felt better and the key word "easier" to use and line up. The last length putt the lab destroyed his putter and the best part was he didnt know why, or if the lab was cheap crap, or a £5000 putter made by nasa! My main issue with lab is I think the custom price is way too much for basic custom options, like £100 more just because you need a 70 degree instead if 69.... and when you consider they tell you everyone is handmade then just make it a different lie and dont charge more for that! Colour, shaft I get but lie angle and alignment options should be free.

Great points! You’re probably right actually, after 11 years, I definitely chucked him in the deep end a-bit. I do agree, and I also think that once they start selling them in big scale like the odysseys, the prices will come down due to their costs lowering 👌🏼

@@garymartingolf Yeah 100%, Would be good to see a player like your mate use the lab and go round the putting green each hole to hole say clockwise, then do the same but in reverse so he doesnt "learn" the green with his own and see what he scores. I think L.A.B should give you a discount code to while you are doing so much work with zero torque and their product😉

This was really interesting. I'm debating getting a better putter. I like the zero torque notion, but I'll never drop the $$ for a Lab. I've spent some time putting Lab vs. Odyssey 7 sq to sq. I believe the theory but I don't really like putting it, it just doesn't seem to click for me any better than other nice feeling putters. And watching the demonstration here I have a hard time looking at the difference between all of his putts and thinking I'm not sure how many hundreds of dollars I'd be willing to spend for the difference I see. With the zero torque putters I really don't understand or like (so far) the forward lean of the shaft. Still, I highly suspect I'll have an Odyssey 7 as a birthday present this summer. Thanks for the interesting video!

@ I got a DF3 white Accro shaft white 2.0press grip cappuccino standard head, 66degree lie angle , 33.5 inch , It rolled great from the start however it took me at least 6-8 rounds to get used to it . After the first couple of rounds I could have tossed it in the bin but the price of it made me persevere and I’m glad I did as I have been using it for about 4 months now and it’s the best putter I’ve owned with amazing results . I’ve seen from your videos when you first got the lab it didn’t happen for you and I’m sure you were close to ditching it . But over recent videos I’ve seen your putting with the lab been off the charts . The lab is definitely a slow burner but worth sticking with it …happy golfing Gazza

When I tested these style of putters I found they really shined on 15 feet and in. Long putts where you need a bigger swing can easily go a bit offline with any putter in my experience. I liked the DF3 the best, but I can’t spend that much on a club. The new Odyssey putters had a great feel with that insert, but I thought the DF3 easier to line up. I found the forward press on the Odyssey a bit awkward for me. ⛳️

Good video Gaz and I’m believing the LAB zero torque. Price is an issue £500 if it eradicates the couple of 3 putts I make and I sink a couple of 10-20 footers then have to ask what price posing 4-5 shots a round. Having said that £400 or was it $ for a shaft on a putter, that is insane. At the pace of a typical stroke cannot think there is much going on that needs a special Carbon shaft.
@garymartingolf

If you play on slow greens, my advice would be to get the OZ.1 and then the putter would perform great with a standard shaft at stock price. I can only be honest about how I feel, I love the DF3, but with the standard shaft, I just don’t get feel for the longer putts. I’m not saying upgrade shaft though, my advice is the consider the Oz.1.
@guyr7351

I can understand if people think $500 is too much to pay for a putter. However, consider that you use your putter about twice as many times per round as you do your driver, so you should be willing to spend as much for a putter as a Driver. If your budget is $499 for your whole set, it would be crazy to spend it all for a putter, or to spend it all for a driver. But, if your budgeting to buy a $500 driver, a $500 putter is worth considering as well.

Just one problem with the video Gaz, why didn't your mate get to use the Axis when trying to sink the putts and why didn't you put it in the revealer. By omitting to do that you give the impression that you were steering your mate to the DF3. Personally I would have liked to see tho Axis in the revealer to see exatly what the torque was. Don't get me wrong, I've just purchased a DF3 which is the first putter I've purchased since starting to play golf back in 1973.
@garymartingolf
@garymartingolf 12 сағат бұрын
I’ve didn’t put the axis in the revealer because I’ve done a full axis review where Ive already put it in the revealer. In hindsight I should of let him have 3 at the end with yeh axis, but I didn’t think it was about choosing between the df3 and axis, I just thought it was zero torque vs torque. Wow, I bet that was some change. You’d be a great person to film with, as I’m sure golfs changes a lot.

So . If you don't practice with the LAB putter you're a better putter with that than your putter if you don't practice 🤔🤔🤔. Because to me it's all about practicing and us amateurs don't do a lot of that ,that's why we're amateurs
@carlr2837
@carlr2837 10 сағат бұрын
I don't practice enough, and I have switched to a LAB, and I think you have it exactly right. If you practice a lot, you can get used to any putter. You learn how it torques, and you learn to develop a putting stroke that counteracts the torque such that you get your hands back to square at impact. With zero torque, the club stays square on it's own, so there is nothing special to learn. You just stroke it naturally and it goes where you point it. That doesn't mean you will make every putt. You still have to get the speed right, you still have to read the green right, and you still have to square up and aim properly, none of which are my strong points. It does take away the pushes and pulls that happen if you don't get back to square, which will benefit those of us that don't practice enough.
