so just being the third person to add to the inevitable “watch the show” chain, ill say this: know what youre in for if you do infact chose to watch it. i honestly could confidently say you’d have a greater appreciation for toph’s jokes once you see her story play out and how she develops. how everyone does really. its an addicting show with some intense feels man. you’ll laugh out loud, you’ll bite your nails, you’ll shed a tear or two (more like a few), and you’ll come out of it with hopefully a new perspective on some things. it is still a kids show and there are ig a few kiddy moments in it, but the good outweighs the bad exponentially. i can guarantee that. so, when you have some free time, watch the first episode. have a good one dude (:

That's because Toph's blindness becomes invisible to them just due to how well she carries herself. The only reason Azula remembers is because she looks for people's weaknesses to exploit them (e.g. the volleyball game "she hesitates with he left foot, aim for her left"). Even though we know that it really isn't that much of a weakness for Topg, Azula would remember it.

Amanda Fodera well, in the episode, Toph was being selfish and not helping with anything. Katars was mad about it, and since they used sleeping bags instead of tents, they could see the stars. I have disabilities myself and this is what I do to other people. A gentle reminder that I have said disabilities without making them out to be bad things. Especially because when you have invisible disabilities it can be easy for able bodied people to forget that they are there. It was nice to watch a character on screen do the same, and Toph is my favorite character in Avatar for that! The writers did a great job and I am so glad that I got to grow up with her as an example of disabled characters done right. Thank you team Avatar ☺️

I kinda love that they forgot it. It's not that they don't know Toph. They know her. They know her as agood friend, they know that she is independent, that she doesn't need help from anyone, so obviously they don't think that something as normal as writing would be problematic. Like she's our badass Toph, of course she can write, she can do anything. They know her as a full functioning person and thus they keep forgetting that there's actually something she's just not able to do.

Bas relief seems to exist though, so Toph can at least experience some art by touching or sensing it.
