I forgot that toph had such a sad life before the gaang. The fact that she was polished to be a perfect daughter, plus how her parents didnt see her potential in things like being independent, and hid her existence by isolating her from the outside, its alot. Her and mai have that in common tbh. They both were born in high class families, brought up to be good daughters and controlled or told to follow a certain image and rules. The way each charator was developed. Enemies became friends, the powers, the fights, the upgrades! Yakeeastern Korra may be stupid but she understood why Tenzin told her about unbending her spirit, since she’s no longer attached to Aang anymore. Korra can fight because she’s free from her past lives with the Avatar including Aang. She was able to do the out of body experience, which is called astral (spiritual) projection. Actually it was cool seeing her spirit fighting the enemy.

Yakeeastern Not gonna lie but in the last air bender Aang was able to to do astral projection as well, but he has to unbend his spirit. Korra has to be in deep meditation like she’s in deep sleep. Meditation can help make you feel sleepy, and before bed you’ll notice you’re in deep sleep. Because meditation can also make you sleepy as well. Jinora was able to do spiritual projection. Because she had to do deep meditation meaning that she has to fall asleep.

The thing is that Air Nomads don't follow the typical nuclear family system, they have a close knit community structure where the children are raised by the community. Also Aang had a good father figure in his guardian Monk Giyatsu. Aang's tragedy is that because he was the Avatar and a gifted Airbender becoming a master at a young age he was isolated by the others unintentionally, which is probably why he's eager to befriend anyone in the beginning. Not much daddy issue for him, neither for Katara and Sokka too since they still have a good relationship with their dad and their separation is honesty short compared to others who leave for decades and become disconnected.
