That's probably why avatar is "praised" for it's representation of disabled people. Toph? One of the strongest earthbenders in history and her disability forced her to create bending forms that didn't even exist(metalbending and vibration sensing). Teo created windgliders that were much more advanced. Minghua being one of the strongest waterbenders despite not even having arms, etc. They're never treated as inferior or helpless(i mean except for toph not being able to read).
