I ordered a Pixel 5a late last year. While I'm legally blind, I still use my vision for my phone. I was so disappointed in the Pixel because the font size could go large enough. The largest setting gave me a headache. I switched immediately to the Galaxy 20+ and I'm so glad. I don't even have to have my font size on the largest setting to see things. Plus, in the messages on the Pixel, there was no way to increase the font but with the Galaxy I can pinch and zoom to make it huge if I want to!

Thank you so much for this info! That is very important for me as well. Font sizes. I use an iPad mini for non-phone stuff and I am done with Apple. Their new iPadIOS 15 is garbage for accessibility. Their setting to increase fonts only seem to work for the settings menu and the home screen is insane. TINY...TINY icons and fonts! and everything is squished in with huge black boarders. If I wanted my iPad to look like an iPhone I would have bought an iPhone. So now shopping for an Android and I would have been pissed if I bought a Pixel only to find the font size adjustments would be no different than Apples stuff. I think these programmers have super vision or something.

If I were an Android user I’d likely go for a Pixel instead of a Samsung. I’ve played around with TalkBack a little bit, and there’s a lot of carry over from VO. That being said, I caught myself doing a lot of VoiceOver gestures without thinking when I played around with a Samsung phone. Still prefer VO though, but I’m glad the accessibility on Android continues to improve for those who use it.

I’m glad you brought this up. I originally had a Samsung phone as well but when I tried and android as much as my first smart phone, it crashed on me twice and I’ve been using iPhones since then. I’ve been using iPhones for nine years now but recently, my sister let me play around with her Samsung phone last year and talk back. Does have a lot of voice gestures now, so I am willing to try Android again

Well glad you showed that gawd awful fingerprint sensor on the back. Saved me time even debating if this phone would be an option. I have that now but on a moto (moto cr**) and despise the placement. I am always searching for that circle with my finger and because I don't hit it exactly right in the middle I end up with error and having to it over and over...yes I have long fingers but still what a pain. Give me a FP scanner on the power button any day!

I’ve got a question for you since you’re familiar with iPhone settings. Aside from the talk back setting that’s similar on both IPhone & Android, there’s a feature on iPhone called speak screen where you drag 2 fingers down & it will read whats on the screen & will keep reading even if you switch to a separate app. I love that feature because I have some working vision & I like to play mindless games while my phone reads to me. So my question is if you know of any android phones also have a similar feature?
@jamesrath3 жыл бұрын
I can't recall if it'll stop if you leave the screen but I love the Select to Speak gesture/feature in Android where you drag your finger to highlight text on screen you want read.

How much can you get done with Google assistant? Is it way better than Siri?

Sighted android user: One cool thing- they apparently actually put some thought into that finger print set up! If I remember correctly, for set up without accessibility, they just show a graphic of the sensor on the back, and a finger touching it for a second then lifting. But Talk Back actually described the location and said hold until you feel a vibration. I thought that was cool. But the 'phrase' is "Okay, Google". And I can't believe they didn't have that prompt 😞 (sad face). Do better Google!!! Granted, the Google Assistant is not nearly as sophisticated as Siri. It picks up all kinds of words and prompts all the time. I kinda wonder if they were avoiding having Talk Back actually SAY the words, because the Google Assistant would have trained to the AI voice. But they should be able to find a solution for that 🙄(eye roll).

That's awesome to note about the fingerprint sensor! Thanks for clarifying! I recall getting through "Hey, Siri" without issue on iOS and VoiceOver. Still unsure what happened with the "OK, Google" part on my end. 😅

@hadassahbenson40203 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I will take Samantha any day of the week over the annoying Google voice! I hate how if you want different voices for android you have to buy them individually but with iPhone you get a bunch of high-quality voices for free out of the package.
