When blind Halifax resident Holly Bartlett was found almost a kilometer from her condo, police quickly closed her case, calling her death an accident. They concluded the 31-year-old woman, who was blind, wandered drunk and disoriented away from her building, crawling under a fence and up a cement structure beneath the McKay Bridge, where she suffered the injuries that contributed to her death. Family, friends, and colleagues have never believed it, insisting her death was suspicious.
Almost a decade later, a team of investigators return to Holly’s story. Reviewing old evidence and uncovering new, this program sheds light on what really happened that frosty March evening in 2010.

That's the comment of a stupid lazy cop that has no intention or skills to do a proper investigation. The best thing you can say to a cop that makes a comment like that is, "That shows your ignorance & inability to do the job. Now I'll call the state police & my lawyer." Sue them for what, exactly? Are you under the impression that police departments face repercussions? Absolutely zero dollars that is won or settled by people who sue officers or departments comes from those officers or departments. 100% of it comes from the tax payers as do all court costs for the officers and departments. So what are they suing for, exactly? A tap on the wrist at most.

@Vivian Ellingson What.. Did you even watch the end of the video.. She didn't just die out exploring wtf... The taxi driver purposely took her to the wrong spot to rob her or do worse. They got into an argument, left her scared for her life while he STOLE from her, which ended up causing her to flee trying to get back to where she knew was safe, knowing she couldn't go the other way because she didn't know what he was going to do, THEN ended up falling to her death ultimately as she was only able to crawl out to as far as to where she ended up actually being found. Where in that, does that not seem like a crime to you? You sound like you're the person who did it or their family, like wtf.... He literally didn't take her home where he actually should have one. His one and only job. Two, he than proceeded to steal from her and take HER PROPERTY..... Causing her to run for her life... Oh but yeah.... ~E X P L O R I N G~ Mhmmm def no c r i m e here guys.... Just intoxicated woman being responsible trying to get someone whom she would think could be deemed trust worthy to do their job and actually take her home where they should have but instead lead her to a back part where she didn't know, steal and fight from her, scare her for her life, which ultimately caused her to lose her life but yeaaaah she was just out there e x p l o r i n g guys... even though the bus camera PROOFS the taxi driver was THERE and took her THERE,...The taxi driver also ADMITTED to stealing from her (Robbing, taking her money. Which I'm pretty sure is a crime no matter where you live....),.. and there being an argument... But hey again, just out exploring while drunk. Some where she's not familiar with because that makes so much sense right... That sounds exactly like the dam* cops man. If they would've even TRIED to do their dam* job that poor family could've had a little more closure with the untimely and tragic death of their loved one. So terrible, and disgusting, and talking about her death in that manner honestly upsets me just as it does the family. She was NOT putting herself in danger and going places she didn't know while she had been drinking. She was smart, and knew what her limits were, and knew her boundaries. This poor family man. Not sure how anyone could still say something like that after watching this video. Honestly how could they in the first place is beyond me. May she rest in peace, and may this family find peace in their life as well.

@Vivian Ellingson Yoooooooo you piss me off. I'm not even gonna lie. I've replied to you in two other comments above... But reading these comments show me just how off you are and I'm not even gonna bother going fully indebt agian. The fact that you actually DID watch the video, and STILL can some how come to this conclusion is insane. GUUURLLLL... Please NEVER take a job where you'd ever have to do a job such as this... Or maybe you were one of them because honestly I first commented that as a joke in a different reply, but like, legit wondering now. What a joke. Everyone else with some common sense agrees with me, the family, and the investigator they hired, and anyone else in the comments whom have replied to your weird a$$ ridiculous statements know that, that is NOT what happened... and if you actually LISTENED to the END of the video it is easily proven other wise. It honestly scares me just how off you are in your comments, and how much you confidentially are displaying your very inaccurate opinion. Don't get me wrong, everyone has a write to an opinion, but the reason it's upsetting and frustrating, is it's so blatantly wrong and you're purposefully spreading wrong information. I'm blind myself and I can imagine the fear Holly must have been in only too well. One of the most terrifying things about those kind of situations is that if you're blind, you have absolutely no way of knowing whether you are being pursued or not. Especially with the heavy traffic in the background, Holly wouldn't have known whether the taxi driver is still sitting in his taxi or whether he is only a few feet behind her, about to grab her. Also, if she did get attacked, she can't have had even the slightest chance. More so than physique, blindness is a giant disadvantage in such situations. I'm a 6'1'', 220lbs guy but if anyone seriously tried to murder me, they would probably succeed. Being blind just makes you incredibly vulnerable and defenseless in dangerous situations.

I remember when I was in beauty school, one of my teachers told me “just because you get a beauty license, does not mean you can do hair. It does not mean you are good at it”. And it is oh, so true, I was horrible, lol 😂. No worries, I never did hair, just got my license. I was 1000% better at driving and fixing forklifts, lol. Anyways, I’ve always remembered this because I think you can apply this to a lot of things, just look on the streets, a lot of these licensed drivers really, really should not be driving. It’s a shame to say that a lot of the officers, detectives, etc are not good. It’s sad to say this happens in all professions, even doctors and nurses 😔. But anyways, I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. Have wonderful, blessed, & safe day ☮️.

I am so glad this video was made to help this family in their search of justice for Holly. First off, she sounded like an amazing, inspirational fun spirit and it makes me wish I had the honor of knowing her. Right away (haven't seen the end yet, still watching) I knew the cab driver had something to do with it or knows something. I am just to the point where they went to question him... What I found interesting about his account of what happened is that he was very detailed about her entrance to the cab but very vague in the way she exited. (Her friends helped her in etc .. but he just dropped her off). Any human being that had any compassion or empathy at all especially one who is unfamiliar with how blind folks get around would be extra sensitive to this. Probably too much of a help. Now he said he didnt know but then admitted he knew she was looking for her cane. Even if she wasn't drunk most cab drivers would want to make extra sure they made it home safe... Opening the door, sending her in the right direction at the very least. Her face taking the majority of impact, her stuff tossed in the parking lot, her cane tossed out the next day... He admits to robbing her, he has a vague recollection of how she got out of the cab and the fact that Holly wasn't stupid all points to the cab driver. As I hear the ending I completely concur. What a terrible and horrific tragedy. My heart truly goes out to all who loved Holly, such a courageous spirit. What a loss. For the record, regardless of the outcome I would have never thought of her as a "drunken idiot." I hope that cab driver knows his days of freedom are numbered and pray police get their act in gear before they allow him to do this again.

Something similar happened to me as the police had first suspected here: I had just turned 16 and I got to go to my first New Years party with friends. However, I should be home by 12.30 p.m. I had had a few drinks there, but made my way home on time. During the walk, the alcohol developed its full effect. My father, who was worried, searched the entire and extended area of the footpath home and luckily found me very far from the actual path near a barn, almost covered with snow because there was 60 centimeters of snow. I was then driven to the hospital unconscious with frostbite - 30 minutes later I would have been dead.

Hi, I’m fully blind myself and I can tell you with absolute certainty that blind people will never drink in public to an extent that they’ll start to lose their physical coordination. We are always careful no matter what to retain our physical control till we reach the safe space. Personally, whenever I’m slightly drunk and have to cab it home, most cab drivers wait till I’m safely inside the building. I definitely expected better from the police, but sadly we do suffer from the tyranny of low expectation.

Just because you are hypervigilant about not getting overly intoxicated because you are blind doesn't mean that all blind people are. Especially when alcoholism And addiction know NO boundaries! I can 100% guarantee you, as a person, can SEE, that there is a blind alcoholic out there in this world who has lost physical coordination in public. I can also assure you 100% that there are also blind people that suffer from issues with substance abuse/addiction. To deny these facts are indeed.....being blind.

Just cannot trust police. There is a deeper reason WHY the police are not investigating. I mean there not stupid. They know this was a shady death. But for some reason the family and the Canadian public will probably never know. Example-they have a drug user that they think most likely killed her. But even though they would know this guy killed her they need him for another investigation. To bust some drug dealer. That is an example of why the police might call a death a suicide when it is obviously a murder. Or maybe they know a cop who has a hard on for blind women. I’m just saying the police know. They have some idea of what happened to her. But for whatever reason they don’t want any part of it. But seriously. I love investigating journalists. And she has a passion for this case. What a tragic loss for her beautiful family of a lovely spirited young lady. This woman was obviously a very capable and independent lady so to suggest she got “lost” from the front of her home is ridiculous. It appears that the police made gross assumptions simply based on her lack of vision plus the taxi drivers story is super dodgy (if you saw someone fall most decent people would at least go and check the person was okay) At minimum I suspect she felt threatened by him and got hurt trying to get away. It could be a tape that video's over the old video, so by the time he heard about the crime and thought about the video it could already taped new footage over it. That's mostly the case because it is a cheap security option. So you could have let's say 5 hours of video and than it would tape over the captured footage after 5 hours Etc. It is costly to have videos that don't re tape and some camera's are not taping at all.
@Rustyrc83

@@mirandaschalen This was 2010 not 1995. I'm sure they had more than a 5 hour loop. The they would have been digital and had at least a week's worth. I would buy it if he said the footage was too grainy to make anything out so there was no use in saving it.

Holly Bartlett video showed just how beautiful and bright her inner light shined. A true testament of a child raised by loving parents. With loving friends and family her disability did not limit her. Holly soared with confidence. One of the signs that you are raised in a family who truly loves you. I had a friend who was blind and he refused to use a cane. Sometime while walking with him I would forget to hold his arm if we were laughing and talking so stumbles or missteps happened. One would have thought that we were a little tipsy. 😊 A note to friends always make a plan to share a taxi if you go out for the evening especially if decide to drink and choose whose place you will stay the night with and KEEP YOUR PHONE CHARGED UP AND ON IN YOU HAND before entering a taxi- stay alert and prepared. It is annoying but safer. I carry two phones that came in handy after my taxi driver began heading in the wrong direction. While I was on the phone the driver heard me tell my friend I’ll call you when I get home after I charge my phone. The taxi driver was heading in the wrong direction. I shouted at him telling him that he was going in the wrong direction and then he pulled on the side of a mall knowing all the stores were closed due to Covid -19 , and the area that he pulled into no one could see us. The area was usually very busy stores and restaurants and lots of foot traffic before COVID -19 lockdown. This crazed driver turned to face me glaring. I shouted at him what do you call yourself doing? 🤬🤬 He just glared so I shouted 🤬🤬 Oh! I have another phone, and I will call the police right now in a baritone voice I did not know that I had 🤬🤬🤬- I scared myself-with the phone in one hand and my other hand on my weapon. He faced forward , turn that car around while glaring😡😡 He kept looking at me evil through his rear view window and I stayed ready. 😡😡 Holly was independent her family truly loved her. We always think of how we could have helped our love ones better. I know that her friend loved her also. That gut wrenching pain is so real and lays dormant within us all after we lose someone we love untill we have to say goodby again to another loved one who leaves us to soon. God is love. Though we may not understand His mind nor are we able to comprehend His timing in our lives or why we have to endure the evil that roams the earth. Trust and know that the love of Jesus Christ is always with us. His timing is always perfect. How many women have been murdered because they left their friends that they went out with and later insisted on leaving with a guy that they just met or a male friend only to be found dead. We must learn from our Sisters and Brothers who are now gone. I am grateful that I was raised by WWll veterans, Vietnam veterans and Christian Soldiers. I tell my friends not on my watch - Yes, you are grown but I came out to listen to loud music, dance , have fun, get home ,lock up and then sleep. 😌 I have no doubt that the driver was the killer. The police force have become thugs with guns and badges and have no sense of morality. They could care less until someone they love is murdered. It seems cops only care about their paycheck and murdering black men, women, and children. Very sad. To take advantage of a blind person is beyond horrible and disgusting. No family should have to endure this pain. Not one cop in the force cared about Holly. The entire community should have been in an uproar. Not one reached out privately to help just trifling, lazy ...... I hope that her family knows that she is in the loving arms of Jesus Christ. Holly was blessed to have an awesome family who allowed her the freedom to experience her life to the fullest. Unfortunately, evil is real. It is imperative to trust and know that Jesus Christ is Lord. Whether or not you believe in the Holy Bible I know that we serve a living God who is loving patient and forgiving. To understand him better you have to read , pray, talk with him and have faith. We all will meet Him and be judged especially Holly’s killer and the heartless cops who failed her family. It is never to late to go to Our Lord in prayer. He is our comforter. Though I do not belong to a specific denomination He has shown me on numerous occasions that He is real. People will disappoint us, abandon us in our time of need, lie on us, betray us, they will cheat and steal from us. And in the mist of the evil The Lord will always show up when we invite Him into our lives. He will never force His will on us. An awesome channel on KZbin is called Lion of Judah if you are interested in learning more. Their short videos are different powerful graphics and narrations, to the point, captivating and never boring in twenty minutes. Similar to Paramount Studio film. Read their playlist then chose one to view. Dr. Charles Stanly is a great teacher, Dr. Fred Price was also great teacher. Lion of Judah has created amazing videos like no other. Special Blessings To The Bartlett family,friends and the KZbin Family Stay safe while trying to enjoy life.
