Jinora has been shown to be incredibly talented at feeling spirit energy, so much so that she could see the small spirits *weeks* before Harmonic Convergence, whereas everyone else took much longer. She used that sensibility to find where Raava was beginning to reborn inside of Vaatu.

Jinora basically helped Korra to find the "light in the dark", which was what Korra was trying to do, hence why she didn't just immediately kill Unavaatu. Remember, all of this happened during Harmonic Convergence where all the spiritual energy of the world is amplified. It's like Sozin's comet in a way, so not everyone can just do it at any other time of the year. What Korra did, she basically tapped into the cosmic energies of the universe DURING Harmonic Convergence and was able to bend her own energy in order to project her own spirit as that. Raava IS the Avatar State and the past lives helped to make it stronger in a way by channeling all their combined knowledge and skill to the current Avatar. Korra will still have access to the Avatar State just as Wan was able to. The cycle of Wan has ended and Korra's cycle has begun. Now every Avatar after Korra will basically be an incarnation of Korra, just as how everyone after Wan was an incarnation of him. Eric, funny how you called the past lives a "crutch", because the creators said the same thing when they were explaining one of the reasons why they decided to cut off Korra's connection to her past lives. As Korra said it herself at the end, she has to forge her own path and not being able to rely on her past lives, she will have to figure things out herself. Oh and the Southern Water Tribe was never independent back in ATLA. They were "independent" because they were separated in communication from the North throughout the duration of the war. So when Korra announced that the South was now independent, it was more of an official thing. CAN'T WAIT FOR S3 WOO!

Hey I am like 2 years late but I recently started watching their reactions and isn't Korra a reincarnation of Wan? Yes she lost her connection to all the past lives but that doesn't change the fact that when Aang died his "soul" reformed in Korra What i am trying to say is that she Is Aang, Roku, Yanchen, Kioshi and Wan, the avatars after Korra would still Be their past lives reincarnated they just won't have this connection to them

If you look at the displays of Avatar state of Season 3 and 4 you see that Korra may not have the fighting experience of the past lives but has a lot of power. Do you think Aang or Kyoshi would have been able to bend a nuclear spirit blast and break the dimensions to create a new portal?
@eawhite7827 жыл бұрын
When Korra was meditating in the Tree of Time, she used it's connection with the cosmic energy of the universe to tap into that energy herself, similar to how the Avatar state does, which is what allowed her to bend her own energy and create the giant avatar of her own spirit. The Tree of Time was basically a stand-in for Raava for tapping into the cosmic energies.

The connections are gone, but Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, Yang Chen, Wan and all the other Avatars still live through Korra. It's reincarnation. Eric even said it in Book 1: Air "Korra IS Aang." Korra just created a new cycle.
@Nyx_21422 ай бұрын
Its reincarnation but also.. not, in a way. They are the same people but also separate. We know from canon comics that dead avatars would still act independently as spirits. Kuruk did this and happened across Aang (when Aang was alive). Hell, Kuruk was wandering as a spirit in the Spirit World with the express purpose of trying to find and kill Koh, and Aang gave him information to find him. They aren't just stored memories to interact with, we see this in Yangchen changing her mind on things she did in life, something a stored memory or life wouldn't be able to do. Kyoshi says she "doesn't" see the difference, not "didn't", showing she was still an individual person considering herself in the present and not merely reflecting past thoughts that couldn't change. There is far more to those past lives than meets the eye and I really hope we'll see more on that.

@@Nalpha well I don’t think those are mutually exclusive. In contextualizing what we know, this season breaks down and complicates a lot of it. Whether that is necessary or enjoyable to watch is up to viewer interpretation but I guess lots of people think it’s a bit too far in this case. There are still questions we don’t have the answers to, like how lion turtles themselves came to possess the powers of elements and the ability to grant them to humans, or how someone like Combustion Man has the unique ability he does. Maybe you want to know, maybe you don’t, but the thing about worlds like this is that every answer comes with more questions, and that can become a web of confusion as they build on each other. ATLA chose to keep the spirits a little more mysterious, as well as the connection between avatars. I respect LOK for taking some of that mystery away but it just feels like there’s infinitely more I don’t understand about it now. Part of the ending issue there that you mentioned is a result of Nickolodeon. Originally, Korra was supposed to be 1 season. 16 episodes. It was shortened to 12. I know I'm over two years late, but I always want to talk about this episode. I love the part where Tenzin tells her to forget who she thinks she is and connect with her spirit, and she responds by saying Raava is gone. Korra has known almost her entire life that she was the Avatar. And she has spent most of her life isolated, training to be the Avatar, constantly hearing people talk about how important the Avatar is. She has built her entire identity around being the Avatar, which is why she struggles so much to find her place when she comes to Republic City, where most people think they no longer need an Avatar. And after losing Raava, she feels like she has nothing left. The foundation of her entire identity is gone. But her strength of character, her willpower, and her determination is all her. Once she learns that, and with a little boost from harmonic convergence, she has the power to fight back against Unavaatu. It's a little handwavey, but I love the message it sends so much that I don't really care.

Like some waterbenders can bloodbend and some firebenders can create lightning, some airbenders are extremely spiritually aware. Jinora is one of those airbenders.

I think the reason the creators chose to break the connection between the Avatar Line and Korra was because they wanted to use the end of Book 2 to kind of separate TLoK and ATLA from one another - too many fans continued to hold on to the old series and not let TLoK be its own thing. This was their way of saying that the fans need to let ATLA remain in the past and let Korra be her own Avatar.
@blade34307 жыл бұрын
That's not a good enough reason for me. Aang was his own Avatar and he went to Roku for guidance all the time. Connecting with past Avatars is a thing that ALL Avatars have done. Nothing is wrong with Korra doing the same thing. In the end, TLoK and ATLA are supposed to be seen as series together. It makes no sense to separate them and nearly everyone would have appreciated TLoK and the entire thing as a whole more if they didn't decide to destroy the connection

Why not just keep the connection, but not consult to Roku specifically on matters of merging the nations in Republic City? No doubt other Avatars of Aang's past would have and probably were very encouraging of his project.

The music that starts when Tenzin talks about the Tree of Time and how Korra being Korra is her strength and not just her being the Avatar just gives me chills all the time. Tenzin is so inspiring to Korra from that moment on, I love their relationship so much. Ugh idk I just love book 2 and I don't care if people don't, it had a very personal influence on me. (and tbh, most people complaining about book 2 never give any reason to their hate, apart from "Korra sucks in it" for like... five episodes top out of 14 episodes, lol, whatever). It's a shame tho, how Sony Music/Nickelodeon are treating Jeremy Zuckerman's work, man I'd buy that OST every day for the rest of my life.

I always thought of it like this: The cosmic power (the giant) is what the avatar use to controll the avatar state, we saw Aang be in the "cosmic giant" when he controlled the avatar state. KOrra preppelled the cosmic energy to create a cosmic form that she controlled to fight Unavatuu

I love the ending, because ironically Unalaq is the one who kind of helped her defeat Vaatu with everything he taught her. He told her to find the light in the dark. Which Korra did. In the end, Korra also used Unalaq's spiritbending trick on him to finally take Unavaatu out.

The Avatar State is Raava and the Avatar Spirit fighting as one. Raava is the reason why they can use all for elements that's all her. But the Avatar State is a combined effort. In the Book 2 finale Korra used her avatar spirit to fight the dark avatar state, that was without Raava. Then they went back to the spirit world and fused together. We saw for a brief moment the light avatar state. Normally the Avatar State in contained within a human body but Vatu and Raava unleashed it.

The only reason I was sad from this finale is that I really wanted an Avatar with 4 elements to have a fight with a Dark Avatar with 4 elements, as an opponent that could truly match up to the Avatar. They introduced the Dark Avatar, and so they came this close to doing what I wanted, but they didn't. I just feel like that was a huge missed opportunity.
@cliffb37317 жыл бұрын
JP dark avatar was the result of merger of unalaq and vaatu. The reason he couldn't have all the four elements is because he did not receive it from the lion turtles as Avatar Wan did being the first Avatar. So vaatu gave a massive boost to Unalaq as he already is a waterbender and he was first of its kind.
@JP-zb3yb7 жыл бұрын
Right. I'm saying they could've had the story play out differently so that he gains all 4 elements and battles Korra with them. I wanted to see that happen.
@hemmojito4 жыл бұрын
Ok in a nutshell, this is what I think about the major developments. A) Vaatu will appear inside Raava again. They're basically two sides of a coin. So in one of the next 400 or so Avatars he'll split off from Raava again. B) Korra is the new Wan basically. In two senses. 1) As a reincarnation of Wan of course she can do anything Wan could. There is and always will be just one Avatar. The same person reborn over and over. So of course she can bend all 4 elements with or without Raava. The temporary element holder function Raava held for Wan was just for the training phase. After a while he was good to go. So being tied with Raava only strengthens the Avatar manifold and makes the reincarnation thing possible. 2)The cycle starts anew C) Korra uses the tree of time to connect to the cosmic energy, bends her own spirit energy to a blue giant and kicks some Vaatu ass. It's a similar thing to what Aang did to Ozai but only without Ozai. D) What Jinora did was basically an assist. As Vaatu grows with bad things/people/spirits. Raava grows with good things/people/spirits. Jinoras innocent kind-hearted gentle spirit helpled the little speck of Raava inside Vaatu to grow enough for Korra to see her and take her out of him. Also the surge of Raava inside Vaatu/Unalak (Vaatunalak?(tm)) startled him long enough for Korra to attack. oh and... E) The Dark Avatar thing is just a way for Vaatu to manifest better/more easily in the material world. As a being from the spiritworld he "needs" a being from the physical world to join him to really kick ass and multiply his power which basically means Unalak is just a vessel. Again just my opinion. Don't kill me. :D

Giant Blue Korra = the same "Korra" that goes into the Spirit World when she's meditating. It's her spirit, not her and Raava's together like Vaatu/Unalaq but just herself. Harmonic Convergence helped her use the fullest of her spiritual powers. Also lol imagine being a person living in Republic City, nonbender and watching all this shit happening hahaha As for Jinora... it's never really explained but it's still something that is part of her character even later on. But personally I do believe there's part of her connection to Raava that is due to her being connected to Aang (so, an Avatar, who "had" Raava inside of him).

Aang was given the ability to "bend energy" from the Lion Turtle, and Korra used that ability while connected to the tree of time to connect to the cosmic energy of the universe, and channel that energy into a being capable of facing the "dark avatar" and vanquishing the dark spirit Vaatu. Despite being separated from Raava, she found power within herself to project her will through the cosmic energy of the universe.

@varunbhat20773 жыл бұрын
I think Korra was able to turn into a giant spirit because of certain conditions. First, it was Harmonic Convergence. a rare event, which amplified spiritual energy greatly. Second, she was more spiritually connected than most people. Third, she meditated in the Tree of Time. So, there are very specific conditions to turn into a cosmic self. I think maybe Jinora too could have done that.

Korra becoming a blue spirit was an event that can happen only once every 10.000 years during Harmonic Convergence. Like someone else said, it's the "Sozin's comet" for spiritual energy instead of firebending.

I think Rava was always picking the next avatar based on strength of spirit. Unbendable inner light? Idk. Bending was not spiritual but a granted ability. And the massive strength boost from an avatar was both power from Rava and the already learned skill of a past avatar, meaning the skill was remembered by Rava and then past to the next avatar. Thoughts?

The Avatar State is considered a perfect mental link between the Avatars and Raava. When entering the state, Raava boosts all spiritual powers, bending, with her own energy. But if there is still a link to the other Avatars, then those Avatars can add their own spiritual strength and knowledge to the Avatar State, which technically made Aang the most powerful Avatar ever. But now that the link is severed, Korra only has Raava giving her a boost. The cycle will continue so there will be Avatars after Korra, but now Korra is the start of the cycle and the next Avatars can not receive any power from an Avatar before her. The cycle basically restarted.
@Bigarus7 жыл бұрын
Octavian Augustus Something curious I noticed when rewatching ATLA; when Aang, Sokka, and Katara went to the southern air temple and saw the room filled with avatar statues it was almost full, it looked like there was room for two more statues in the cycle, Aang's and eventually Korra's would fill the room. The cycle has began again with Korra at the start.

The way I connected Korra's power at the end was the fact that the Avatar/Rava spirit choses the next Avatar. So there is something that the Avatar spirit sees in the next reincarnation and that is what Korra taps into at the Tree of Time. Idk that's just how I made sense of it.
