He has illustrated remarkable ability to connect dots and come up with plausible theories there - even earning the nickname Detective Calvin. If I were to guess I'd say that their low expectations are preventing them from really putting in the effort here. Taking a break just made matters worse because they have forgotten everything :P

[EleG] Northern King In case you are still confused I shall elaborate - I mentioned that to enjoy this reaction series a prerequisite is having good taste not because I agree with the reactors opinions, but rather because the REAL comedy is the fact that the reactors are missing half of the jokes and then complaining about how dull the abridged anime is. The fact that they seem to find original Kirito interesting and the canonical plot well executed is absolutely fucking hilarious to me. Because I understand the ironic comedy going on here and because I am a narcissistic fuck I believe that having the same taste in comedy as me(hence being able to appreciate the irony of Blindwave's reactions) is having good taste.

It's sad that they overlooked all the witty set ups and plays. It's not all as meaningless as it seems. The continuity is great in this series and the subtle jokes, though hard to spot at first, really make you go "that was witty!". Do they overplay it? Yes, at times, but their not professionals. It's satiric. Trying to watch it like a produced anime is ridiculous. Also so many times in the past when they asked why did he do something they completely over looked sachi. Many of his actions were based on her. Kirto, from the first episode, has always been shocked that people think he's an asshole. Knowing that he literally can't tell and watching from that stand point is hilarious. He does care but doesn't know how to express it. That scene with Kline from last ep. Kinda shows his progression. Sad they didn't mention that.

@@wyatttingle2590 I get most of the jokes they throw at me. Yes its witty and its pretty funny. Abridged was enjoyable. But I still prefer the original. Well abridged is basically a parody and it's true that it wasn't made by professionals but I still think the story of abridged is maybe average at best. The original had many plot holes and little to no character development but the story was still cohesive and I still could follow the story and enjoyed it.You could tell from Eric's perspective as a person who hasn't watched the original I think he would also prefer the original. Abridged had things that the original doesn't but saying its better than the original is absurd. It's a parody. At least that's what think. Abridged is a very good parody that took a lot of effort but it's as good as a PARODY could get.

I watched 3... not ashamed to admit I would not go back to this. They watch a lot of internet stuff and of course they are going to forget things from the PTSD about the black cats, the continuous continuity, and a lot else. I mean it's fine for them to like DBZ abridged more, it doesn't detract or build on anything from the series. Sadly I would agree that SAO abridged, by taking the character and adding character flaws (which in my opinion add to a character as we all have flaws) did add more to Kirito. I am fine being in the minority with this. We are all entitled to our opinions no matter what others may think about them.

Yes, the Abridged can't really fix that so well, but we got to see a total of 3-4 of the actual boss fights and the majority of the arc becomes a harem plot of Kirito saving girls and them falling in love with him. It's kind of hard to say that "it skipped most of the fights" when the original was so lacking on fights. Not to mention the BS end of the arc which REALLY feels like the writer was just sick of the setting and wanted to move on without really finishing the story.

I myself have actually looked at some videos about the opposite (that is, “Why Kirito is a good character” or “Why SAO is good,” though sadly I’ve found no videos from this angle that also mention the abridged), and though it has bettered my opinion of aspects the original, my overall opinion of it is still negative. At least I actually made an attempt to understand the other side though

That's what drew ME to it in the first place. Generally the more dissatisfied that I became with SAO over time, the more my appreciation for the abridged grew.

I guess I'm the exception to the rule then. I never watched SAO and barely know the plot and characters, just heard it got hyped like AOT and somewhat failed to deliver. But I love this abridged for the references and jokes about mmorpgs and gaming (which I also know not to much about) but mainly I really appreciate the characters. It's not a 'humour type thing' 'cause I laugh about almost everything, I watched lots of abridged series, even the old ones, when they were fresh, low quality and unsteady. But I feel the classics are somewhat different than the newer ones like SAOa and for example A Slap on Titan (which I mention because to me they seem similar). The classics seem to have a greater variety of jokes including really silly stuff like "stop hitting yourself", also lots of 'recycleable jokes' ('I need an adult", "Did you just summon a bunch of monsters in one turn?" to name two). The newer one seem to include these less... most of theirs I'd describe a context-related jokes. They are bound to interactions, character deficits being confronted by the actual story or past events. For example if Tfs did SAOa we would see the "We must save my family!"-NPC more often and every time Kirito would snap. And if LK did it, we would have had a clear Leroy Jenkins reference or joke at least by ep. 3. I got to enjoy the show fully so far because I was able to binge-watch ep 1-10 for the last two days and get all that, even though I'm missing the actual groundstory of it. Most people, reactors, etc. wait months for the next episode and don't remember or rewatch what happened before so that could be an explanation why reception is mixed; aside from people actually enjoying the original and therefore don't like the characters changed or seeing no real room for humorous critic. Apart from that, if these guys don't really feel the humour, why do they continue watching it? Go watch Hellsing abridged, it's awesome and I think you'll enjoy it a lot.

It's always really funny, becauae I first watched SAO when I was 13 and I thought it was midtier. During Fairy Dance I realized I was watching my first bad anime lol It's enjoyable, but for every great thing that keeps you invested there's three bad things, and as the series continues and the fanservice becomes uncontrollable, they add another layer of bad for each story arc. I enjoy it, and I enjoy Abridged, but for completely different reasons. When they were talking about how good the original was and what a great character Jesus Kun is I was actually confused. And no, this isn't old memories of being bad. My sis and I watched SAOA, as I wanted her to watch it blind, and it got us interested in watching SAO. So my memories of the anime are fresher than a green banana. Bout to start Gun Gale for the forst time, actually.

I’m really disappointed in their reaction to this series. Mostly because they talk over or miss really important parts of the series, and then complain when they don’t understand or when they feel like the jokes don’t land. If they don’t like the series overall, that’s fine, but it’s frustrating that they’re blaming the show when they’re the ones missing really obvious things.

Asuna, sure, I can understand. The show left out a lot of points of where they could've had contact and talked and shared moments together. I mean, they did meet in the first month, and the game itself was two years long, so... But for the rest of the women? "Hey, I got you a virtual flower for a virtual dragon in a virtual world that you're never going to see probably once you get out of this game, because, you know, you should be kind of traumatized by all of this... you love me now?" Or "Hey, we went hiking for a day and a half and held hands that one time... oh, and almost got eaten by a dragon thanks to your stupidity and general lack of game knowledge... you love me now?" The reason people like this better than the original is because Kirito was a copy-paste character that was a wish-fulfilment. Was he as terrible as people make him out to be? No. In the books, and especially the new series coming out, "Progressive", he's given an actual personality, and reasons as to why these girls would like him. Plus, the show's funny. While you may not find it so, it IS funny. Just like Pewdiepie. "I don't understand how people like him, all he does is shout and make weird gestures". It's just the style of humor that people find entertaining right now.

Not to defend SAO, because I am aware of it's many flaws, but the way human emotions work they can be largely boiled down to a select few hormonal reactions. What I mean is adrenaline can turn into love very easily. Studies have shown taking your date to see a horror film is better than taking them to see a romance. So it isn't out of the question for a bunch of girls to gravitate to Kirito the danger magnet. (not that it isn't still contrived wish fulfillment.)

This really doesn't add or take away from the conversation, but I do want to say that while it is true that romances are often easily built in dangerous/ life-or-death situations that get your adrenaline pumping, studies also show that these relationships tend to be the least stable/long-lasting once the couple gets out of that dangerous situation, as their relationship is usually based on a mutual need for support and care. Honestly I always wondered how well Kirito and Asuna will fair in their relationship once they grow up and actually have to get jobs and not spend all of their time in the game.

Kirito lost in the abridged because he was too busy strategizing. Again that was kinda the joke. Asuna and Kirito got together mostly because they are both sociopaths :p People hate original Kirito because he is the king of Mary Sue land. He is supposed to be a social shut in and introvert - yet he ALWAYS goes out of his way to help people. He plays an mmo alone yet is somehow above everyone in lvl. His personality is absolutely empty yet chicks fall for him left and right - he doesn't even act that Alpha or anything which might have been able to explain it.

Was he the highest level in the game, or rather one of those few who were the highest? Also, isn't it a thing in MMORPGs/MMOs in general where you can party up that xp gets split between the party? You could say that he got above everyone, or almost everyone, because he was getting all the xp from fights, and since he was a beta player he knew the good spots to go too. Plus, he does get arguably one of the best weapons in the game. That sword he has.. dark elucidator or whatever it is? The stuff to make it is super rare and can only be acquired ONCE(or is so rare nobody else has it), and it's from a quest, which is covered in the manga to my recollection. With that, he'd have been able to hit above his level a bit. Plus it's a VRMMORPG, and he was one of a small group of people that actually went out and survived, whilst a lot of people sat around crying because they couldn't go back home.

KaiGamer I have nothing against the concept of powerful or skilled protagonists. Just look at my profile icon. The thing is that if executed well an OP protagonist can actually be a good and enjoyable thing. SAO the anime did not execute it well. In any way shape or form. We do not see him get the Dark Elucidator sword (btw a multiplayer game where there is only one of a single item is bound to be shit). We do not see him use his knowledge as a tester to exploit the game. And most importantly we do not see any consistency with his character AT ALL. He refuses to help Klein's friends, but then immediately gets himself a fucking guild. WHY COULD IT NOT HAVE BEEN KLEIN'S GUILD? I swear this anime would have been at least twice as good if the tragic event that happened with his guild happened with him and Klein's guild instead. As a guy who spent(wasted is the correct term if you believe my friends and family) a good part of his life playing MMORPG's I can tell you that playing solo is a terrible, terrible way of gaining the best loot and leveling up. Dungeons that require several players to group up are where all the actual pro players go. The creator of SAO clearly knew jack shit about MMORPG's, because let me tell you, if SAO were to come out today as an actual game it would be a horrible game. No in game backstory, no variance in the classes, no easily accessible raid content (as all dungeons can apparently only be cleared once). Not even the virtual reality aspect would have been able to make this game good. I don't think he is even aware that MMORPG's run on multiple servers. I honestly used to love SAO. It was what got me into anime in the first place. However looking back on it I cringe every single time at how utterly bad the execution is. The concept, the music and the visuals are literally the only things holding this anime up from being dogshit.

My opinion is that the abridged Kirito is a fleshed out well written character. He is an out of touch gamer that gets stuck in a literal game of life and death but he is still trying to hold on to the distance that online gaming provides. He acts like an asshole to deflect against having real stakes in anyone else's life. But you see that facade fail when thinking about Sochi, protecting people in the boss battle, or when talking about love. He still uses a false bravado to deflect in most situations though, like when he was at Asana's house this episode. The moment he realizes she is more ready than he is he looks scared shitless. Original Kirito is as generic as they come, even the introvert part that Calvin mentions is in a ton of anime. I would like to also add that this is done primarily as a comedy and having an asshole protagonist makes sense in a comedy. Tons of classic comedies have asshole protagonists like Plans, Trains, and Automobiles, Jerk, Ghostbusters, Stepbrothers, The Worlds End. Everyone has personnel preferences I think the OG SAO is entertaining fluff anime and I think the abridged version is gold but you can have your opinion. It still bugs me a bit, it might be because I feel I could be wrong subconsciously and that irritates me, who knows though.

After watching this reaction series in full and reading over a large portion of the comments on each video, it finally became very clear as to why the SAOA fandom and Blind Wave's reactions were always at such huge odds with each other. When I first watched Sword Art Online I believed it to be decent. Not fantastic but decent, enough so to actively collect the DVDs. Not long after, however, I ended up watching video after video from various KZbinrs all bashing the show and... setting the bashing aside, I could not argue with a lot of the points that were being made. Eventually, I sat down, put those discs in and gave the show a rewatch and ultimately I could not enjoy it. The criticisms the show received were very real, they were all there, plain as day and I could no longer enjoy Sword Art Online. The fact I owned the DVDs became an embarrassing blight. Sword Art Online has a very strong and rather unique community surrounding it. We all seem to collectively enjoy the concept, want to see the show do well and be done right but we can not enjoy the material for the multitude of problems it has. This is when Something Witty Entertainment stepped in to the picture. It was mentioned in a previous reaction video by Blind Wave that 'Sword Art Online doesn't really need an abridge, its already short' and that comment is 100% true. Sword Art Online didn't need an abridge... but it needed a lot of serious fixing and this is where Something Witty Entertainment excels like no other. There are already thousands of comments all mentioning the desperately needed improvement and development in Kirito's (and others) character as a whole so here is a short list of other things they fixed. Knowing Their Audience - Something Witty Entertainment was very aware of who they were making this content for, anime fans and gamers, and this allowed them to pander their content beautifully. They knew the setting better than even the original show did and used this to their advantage bringing in elements that, as the target audience, we are all familiar with - Trollish usernames, terrible internet connections, convoluted side quests, mini games, glitches, patches & fixes, different types of players etc. There is also the buried plethora of references to other video games and studios via sound effects, subtle nods and even background music. Pacing - In the original there is a lot of heavy fatty filler that if you took it out, you would still have the same story. It was also very episodic in nature with a lot of their 'main' characters being introduced and then immediately removed for the rest of the series with very little impact. First of all, in SAOA a lot of that fatty filler is cut, the first arc runs in at just 3 hours long and it keeps all the major plot points. Secondly, there is a much stronger level of continuity here with many call backs to past abridged episodes in the form of either flashbacks, references or dialogue. You can safely put everything in SAOA into two categories, its either a joke or it relevant in some way. No content is simply dumped. The Cast - I know I already mentioned I won't be going into character development but SAOA has (amazingly) an even bigger cast than the original and they are all rememberable. There are plenty of side characters in Sword Art Online I can't even remember but I do remember them ALL here with their fantastic quirks. The games reviewer Schmitt, the Jesus hallucinating Jeffery who created the murder guild, the cat Fluffles who 'learned how to play', they are such minor roles and they all stand out and stick with you. I could go on forever highlighting what Something Witty Entertainment did so well here, but what they have achieved is, unfortunately, lost on those who either: A. Have not seen the original show and therefore don't understand what they are trying to fix Or B. Those who still view the original series through rose-tinted glasses and have yet to come to terms with just how flawed the series is as a piece of media. Something Witty Entertainment's Sword Art Online Abridged is a response, a work of art, aimed at every single person who saw Sword Art Online for the shambolic mess it truly was, but ultimately loved the concept so dearly we desperately wanted to see it put right. Something Witty Entertainment gave us that with so much dedication and heart that this is now heralded as one of the best abridged series of all time. But if you never caught that wave, you can never truly ride it.

Oh maan, I'm kinda sad about your collection now... It often happens with other series too. First, you genuinely enjoy the characters and the story, but then you become aware of their flaws or encounter a huge wave of negative reaction and you just can't look at this series the same way anymore. It's so sad... Even if it's true, it's still sad... Well, but at one point you'll watch so many shows that you won't even care anymore if it's good or bad, does it have a good reputation or not - if you like it, you'll keep liking it, knowing about all its flaws. Just because you enjoyed one scene or one particular character form it, or maybe it reminded you of something. It's okay to like what you like. Although it's sad when your expectations aren't satisfied.

Honestly, the crazy part is… I enjoy both. I recognize the flaws of SAO, but it never became unwatchable for me. SAOA took the mess of SAO and made it funnier and more entertaining. Both can be enjoyed though. I personally prefer SAOA. It surprises me that they did not like this series, but I guess the jokes and characters were completely lost on them. It literally does the same thing that DBZ Abridged does with running gags, poking fun at the things that don’t make sense, making the characters more along the lines of what they were supposed to represent (even giving them lots of development), etc.

Rosalia ws the chick kirito killed in this version, her last words were "this is the deepest you'll ever be in a woman" so when he got laid, he yelled out "suck it rosalia" since he proved her wrong. you guys spend too much time between eps of this series so you never remember any of the, rather frequent, references to the earlier episodes. It's not surprising you're not enjoying it much since that's a LOT of this show. as for asunaXkirito it's actually more reason than the original gave. she's just f'ing insane in this one and sorta latched onto him since he was one of her first male interactions in the game.

It's funny coming back to this reaction in 2020 for very specific reason. It's because they really like the new Star Wars trilogy, and yet they dislike this. They like the trilogy that blown away 2 billion fucking dollars, yet they couldn't find an actress for their main character that knows how to act (No Daisy, keeping your fucking mouth open for the whole run of the movie and staring intensly at everything is not good fucking acting, unless you are playing a mentally handicapped jedi). And they dislike the thing, that has ACTUAL character arcs, an abridged series that made the FUCKING VIDEOGAME ANIME actually have some god damn videogame tropes like lag, stupid nicknames, the sheer stupidity of some online players and glitches that not only serve to fix some GLARING plotholes and are often a butt of a good god damn joke. Original SAO had NONE of that, it was bland, it was a risk-free anime with solid fundaments that was more interested in enlarging Kiritos harem than developing any of the characters of presenting some original elements to it's world. Most importantly, Something witty enternatinment is made up of FANS of the original, fans who saw it's flaws and potential, and wondered what if it was better, more faithful to actual online videogames world? I think they should have stated how many fucking years ago they saw the original, because in their heads it's some kind of a masterpiece, too bad that anime exists only in your heads, rewatch the original, apply some critical thinking about the world, characters and their motivations and you will find without a shadow of a doubt that it's way worse than you seem to remember it.

Thing about the original SAO is they tried to set up this "You could die at any moment" but by episode 3 you feel as though there is no real danger anymore. Krito has to much Plot Armor, more so then any other Shounen anime MC. SAO is one of the most loved and hated animes at the same time.

The anime added a lot more comedic moments, some that lands and others that doesn't, they also added more lewd scenes(yes shocking), reading the manga I was baffled at how little the fan service was compared to the anime which was riddled with it every episode.

Now everyone has their opinion but, I watch a lot of reactions to this and this seems to be the most un fun reaction ever they either talk over or just don't get the joke, they always forget what happens in past episodes and therefore cant understand jokes later on and lastly they don't recognize how much character development this kirito has over or original it seems they just dissed this on the first episode saying they will give it a chance but when the chance comes they don't notice it but this is just my opinion.

In the abridged, when Kirito stabbed her, she said "appreciate it while you can kid, this is the deepest you'll ever be in a woman." At the end of this episode, Kirito cries out, "suck it Rosalia!" He yells this because he proved Rosalia wrong.

I feel like you guys dislike this so much because you prefer the original... That's not a bad thing, but a lot of people really hate it for it's problems, me included. Honestly, the abridged version feels more like an mmo than the original did. I like the abridged series because it made Kirito into an actual character, instead of a generic Mary Sue. It loses relatability, but in it's place I actually enjoyed watching him. The original character changed to fit the story, and that completely broke the dramatic tension for me. It felt like it was written by a teenager as wish fulfillment. Oh wait, that's EXACTLY what it was. The original author wrote it for a writing contest in high school, and it didn't place.

If bland characters are auto Sue's then sadly most villians would be that since most of them were one dimensional evil for sake of evil. One definition of sueness that I prefer as an indicator is, if it seems like the world itself bends to the whim of the character to make them look "better". Original SAO was fun because it had been a long time since we got a decent MMO themed anime. Possibly since .Hack//sign. Heck the musician is the same for both these series. I am kinda disappointed that anime proper is kinda steamrolling the plot for alicization Arc. I mean we missed at least one fighting tourney. Haven't been that upset since reading UQ holder and they go from round 1 tourney Arc to final boss match during the first round.

Also, in the anime they edited out Asuna killing Kuradeel and instead they had her say that the commander would punish him; where as in the original novel she straight kills him after the altercation.

1) life gets in the way. While they enjoy doing reactions, they have their lives to live. 2) Some shows go on break. The CW shows are on break until the fall season. GoT is on break until next year. The abridged series' come out with a new episode every 2 months or more. They can't react to something that doesn't exist. 3) They are busy. A 30 minute video for us takes them hours to make. Mostly due to editing, rendering, and uploading. They typically do 7+ videos a week. That's more work than you realize. Some youtubers only do 2 videos a week.

What I meant was them taking breaks for specific series like SAO abridged. It gets really damn annoying to see the 2 of them question back and forth, and the other look confused as hell the entire time. Those youtubers take a lot longer because their videos have a lot more effort, editing, and content in them. Not shitting on blind wave or anyone by saying that, thats just the reason behind it. If they can make videos, then specific series should be kept track of. It wasnt even because of family or life stuff, they had to clear some kind of bias just because the show wasn't making them laugh 90% of the time.

I don't know when episode 9 came out, and I don't know when 10 will be out, but I know it will be months until 11 comes out. There are going to be breaks due to the nature of the series' creation and release. For a series like this or DBZA, they rely on fans to tell them when a new episode is up. They can't keep track of everything.

Looks like you guys aren't going to continue passed this episode, but since you aren't going to watch it as it has now been 6 years, I'll tell you the reason this Abridged is so good. At least, for the first season, they completely twist the anime and make a harem character into a most-hated character whilst also getting the girl and finding the real enemy. I won't tell you who because it's spoilers, but two characters make movie references throughout both seasons, in the actual anime, there's a reference closely related to those two characters playing a similar game. In other words, you won't really understand how good this abridged anime is unless you watch to the end of this season

Kirito has actual development in the abridges. She has an interesting (if dysfunctional) relationship with Asuna. And a lot of side characters have at least some personality or at least recurred to serve as a joke/reference. The abridged manages to make the world feel more alive in way less time than the original. You are always wondering what Fluffels or Reverend Killjoy are up to at the moment.

The thing about original Kirito vs Abridged Kirito is that original Kirito is just boring. He has no particular personality other than "introvert who's good at SAO". He doesn't seem to have any reason for being an introvert; he has a generally good family life, he has decent social skills, and isn't an outsider in anyway prior to making himself "the bad guy" to give the other beta testers a break. Abridged Kirito is a scociopath who lacks social skills, and isn't good at anything in the real world so games are his escape and where he feels powerful. He acts like an arrogant asshole because that's how a lot of powerful people act irl, and so he emulates that in the game world where he's powerful. It's like Rosalia said "getting trapped in SAO was the best thing to ever happen to him". On top of that he lacks social skills and takes shots at the people around him because that's what he sees as socially acceptable, so when people react poorly and call him an asshole he throws a fit and runs away. He doesn't just help people because it's the right thing to do, but because either he gains something or because he secretly wants friends (even if he doesn't know it). I like the Kirito/Asuna relationship in the original, but it's pretty much just mutual attraction/ alpha male - alpha female hooking up. In the Abridged they're both broken sociopaths lack social skills and empathy, so Asuna sees him as a perfect match for her (not to mention he's the only character who isn't afriad of her or just sees her as an object), and who is he to complain about an attractive girl pursuing him.

It seems like the guy on the right side (Sorry I cant remember their names) is enjoying the series the most, but you need to stop talking over jokes, it’s a very well written series and it’s obvious that the injokes and running gags are going over your heads. I would definitely recommend giving this series another go, especially now that Aincrad is done and we’re into Fairy Dance. But you have to start from Episode 1, as watching it all at once makes it much better. Not trying to be rude, just a bit of constructive criticism.

His only character trait is that he's over powered in the original. He never makes you laugh or care about him at all. Also we never see him earn his strength he just has it because he's the main character. No one grows or changes. Something Witty Entertainment’s SAO Abridged PARODY. Bless their hearts for sticking it out as long as they did when they clearly hate it - but I think they only hate it because of a HUGE misunderstanding on their part: they’re judging and analyzing this as though it’s an abridged series. This is SAO Abridged P A R O D Y by Something Witty Entertainment. It’s a parody. It is not an abridged series. It’s a parody of a series that is also abridged because there was some random filler that no one needed in the original SAO (they cut the run time in half, which makes it EXTRA ironic that they complain that the pacing is too slow with too much dialogue and too few boss fights lol). I was so excited when I found their first video of this because I like reaction videos and I can’t get enough of SWE’s SAO Parody. But now I’m just sad. :( They’re really interesting people with really well set-up videos, and they’re each fun to hear from; so it’s very sad to me that they weren’t able to see this series as a PARODY and that it got them so far down the rabbit hole of over explaining how it was different from SAO in random ways and painting each discrepancy as an inherently bad thing. A lot of the changes SWE makes make SAO less plot-hole filled, less misogynistic (like in the original where the duel with Heathcliff and Kirito LITERALLY is FOR Asuna, which SWE’s Parody jokes about as if it was SO misogynistic and ludicrous that no one in their right mind would do that). Another thing SWE changes is that they give Klein (here “balls”) and “Tiffany” actual roles in Kirito’s life and character development AND way more screen time instead barely getting screen time OR traits (other than just “being jealous of Kirito“ for gIrLz and SkIlLz). I loved that by making them more fleshed out characters and repurposing the scenes of them being jealous of Kirito to be literally anything else, they took away the HUGE implication that Kirito is the only male character worth giving a damn about (*cough* misandry)... Sorry to be long-winded, but I couldn’t find comments pointing out that this is SWE’s parody, and that that fact seems to be the defining factor of why these three aren’t understanding the series. (I DID see a single comment referring people to watch explanationpoint’s video on why this is a good parody though, and after watching it I definitely recommend it for a much more thorough explanation behind SWE’s parody, it’s worth the watch.) Thank you all for making this content anyway, and trying to stick it out, I really enjoyed the first two reaction videos. :) TLDR: it’s a witty *parody.* It won’t make sense unless you’ve watched SAO with a semi-critical eye, also it won’t make sense if you don’t go into this knowing it’s a PARODY. I think the reason that most people prefer the abridged series is because of the little changes they made which make the visuals better (not to mention the attention to detail of syncing the lip movements to the new dialog)... and there are a lot more references to other video games and pop culture that are great if you recognize them... Me not liking the original anime does not prohibits me from commenting on a reaction of the abridged version. If you want to talk about what is good about Sao, then do it. Nobody is gonna forbid you that, as should nobody when someone comments something negative. That's like blizzard level damage control by deleting negative comments for the diablo immortal trailer

Eric got it exactly right: Kirito is nothing more than a shell for self-insertion male fantasy. This is pretty much the central theme of the story. This is both why people love it, and why people hate it. People who hate this sort of thing (because they're Serious McKilljoy, IMO) like the parody Kirito because his character essentially mocks the original Kirito.

SAO in this context cannot be considered a "regular MMO". Because it isn't, they have the threat of dying. They can't just play around like a video game, they have to treat it like real life. Which means their real personalities will eventually bleed into how they're acting in the game, or vice versa. Also regarding the Mary Sue not being talked about until the SAO series and Force Awakens is because typically mainstream things are actually pretty good about NOT having a Mary Sue character. I haven't watched the Dragon Ball series personally, but from what I hear from people is that Goku does lose and needs to grow. Kirito in the original anime only lost fights because of cheating in one situation, actually two if I recall correctly with the antagonist in Alfheim, and poisoning in another.

Thanks for giving it a shot! It’s cool if you don’t like it, so many people want to have it validated by agreeing with them but it’s cool that you enjoyed the original so much, and you can definitely love it more than this fan work. The original has the benefit of being well original content. I loved sao abridged and I think the original is a cool concept show. But for me the two stand alone.

This is a great example of the changes made by the Abridged series; even people who liked Asuna were annoyed that in the end, she couldn't just be permitted to save Kirito, and like win, and beat the guy. No, he had to recover from paralysis etc etc, and do it, to Prove He's A Man. Even though the whole idea is that they're a partnership of strong equals. And the rest of the series, uh. Two words. Fairy cage. Also ,the issue with 'why does Kirito care/is a good person' and 'why is this relationship happening' are issues that a lot of people would say you're pointing out about the original series. My theory is, aside from being funny, Kirito was made into such an over the top jerk is to help give any reason why he acts the way he does. In the early episodes, he's just fucking about, randomly sticking his nose into peoples' business, or using them for his own ends. As opposed to the original, where he's a loner, but then also randomly isn't when it's time to run adventure module 'blacksmith needs a crystal', then back again. And proceed that way for, uh. Effectively three seasons now.

Man, watching the reactions these guys have is truly the saddest, most disappointing, and least fulfilling thing ever cuz they seem to only have a one episode memory span. Seeing a lot of crossepisode refrences ignored or just seeing them go over their heads is truly soulcrushing. :(

kirito's loss is because he pulled a Sherlock, but doesn't have the brain speed to pull it off. Canon kirito is essentially as close you can be to gary stu character without actually being one. Canon kirito has only killed 3 people and he doesn't just forget its all ways in the back. Gary stu has been around for years at least if you read or write fanfics. You have the idea of it right though. In the end its your opinion just have fun guys.
