Watching this the first time, Viktor being accepted by his family got me emotional, but I didn't cry. Watching Eric get emotional about it in a reaction months down the road DID make me cry. Not sure why, but in any case I am constantly happy that Eric is such a wholesome dude who isn't afraid to let genuine emotion come out whenever.

"Why is she so mad about it" is going to be a recurring theme for Allison's character this season LOL I mean, her reasoning is understandable, but I think it was handled a bit sloppy, she comes off as a cartoon villain at some points.

Nah it was insanely good writing for her the only flop was the sexual assault. It's just people never give mother's the same nuance that they give male leads. Walter can go insane for his family but apparently Allison cannot

It goes way beyond her just being a mother and not a father, it was completely over the top and absurd at points. Cartoonishly evil for no reason.

@FemBruceWayne I don't think her being, well, a her, is really the problem. It's just a cop out when there are valid reasons to have that opinion. I can't really discuss without going into mad spoiler territory, so I'll put it like this. She gets/got so bad, I straight up thought Allison was going to dead name Viktor to hurt him, at one point. Her why makes sense. Her irrationality and using everyone as expendable pawns just doesn't. I'm in agreement with OP... Her reason is understandable, it was the execution that wasn't done well. So that isn't really the character's fault when someone is just... writing her.

Allison is a narcissist and narcissistic collapse with the resulting meltdown can appear cartoonish and nonsensical if you've never seen it in person. It's completely realistic (apart from the superpowers thing, obviously) and it definitely fits her character. If you look back at previous seasons, the pattern is there.

Also, I'm pretty sure Alphonso's whole body reflects damage, but Diego is pretty scrappy and can withstand the self inflicted damage to the rest of his body and is probably just pushing through the pain. Getting hit in the face is a bit more jarring though.

As a trans guy, I love it so much that they react so emotionally and understanding of Viktor. Makes me feel appreciated and normal in a way. And as someone who has gone through the same as Viktor/Eliott I gotta say that I absolutely adore how they handled this coming out etc. i deeply wish people around me would have reacted that way.

There's a really, REALLY good reason why the soundtrack to Umbrella Academy is always on-point. The creator is Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance. So not only is his knowledge of music far superior than your average person's but he's probably got the hook-up to really good copyright deals....probably can call up any of these artists and be like "hey, they're asking 20k for us to use your song. Can't you cut us a little break. Remember that '07 Grammy afterparty...."

To answer Eric's question, the hole on the side of the ear is called the preauricular pit and its essentially just a sinus tract that developed where it shouldn't have around the six week mark in the womb. It can be hereditary, I myself had two (one was surgically removed due to an infection) from my grandmother. The doctor said the scar would go away in a year or two....that was over a decade ago ☠but in her defense my skin keloids if cut deep enough. I'd say my hearing isn't impaired, but my girl might tell you differently! Now you know, and knowings half the battle!

I'm a trans guy, and I love how perfectly being trans works with Victor's character story up until this point, because his emotions had been suppressed for so long, so of course it took a long time to figure out what was up. (Not that that's unusual anyway, it took me more than 20 years) Also, the way the show handled his coming out was fantastic. How they handled Allison, however... I've got mixed feelings

It's funny that Vanya is a male russian name, but here Vanya is used as a female name and when he transitions he choses Victor. He already had a male name lol. I remember before the show came out people were theorizing that Viktor would be this universe's version of Vanya and they would both interact with each other. But nope, no reality shenanigans, just comes out as Trans like normally. Elliot said he was fine playing Vanya, but they said NO, that's a cool idea, you're Victor now haha

The name thing is kind of interesting. I think that for Viktor, the name change is a way for him to distance himself from the repressed, confused, past version of himself. The Russian masculine association of 'Vanya' doesn't really matter - he wants a new start and a name of his own choosing helps him communicate that better.

A lot of people complained about the whole Viktor thing when the season first came out. But the thing is, Vanya has always been a transformation character. In the comics, she's literally experimented on and driven mad, locked up in a mental hospital as a result, and in the more recent entries, has now started to get back to who she was. Obviously it's different here, going with the gender swap for Elliot, but the point is, this is nothing new for the character.

But just so you guys know, some trans people prefer to be referred to by their current name and pronouns even when talking about past stuff, so you should probably just keep calling him Viktor and saying he or him when talking about past seasons and stuff just to be safe. It has nothing to do with any mental illness, they just want to be themselves to be happier, and it's very courageous to take that step and accept that people will judge you. Nobody celebrates mental illnesses, but wouldn't you celebrate if someone for example fought through depression and is now better? You don't choose to be depressed, just as you don't choose the s*x you were born with or the gender you identify as, but either way you have to work on yourself to fight through it.
