Someone just started to threaten to hurt himself. It has happened before. He says he hears voices and that this song drowns them out. *The true meaning of this song and no Its not about Mark being lonely on tour* The lyrics of the song are based on a letter written by a boy who could not stand to be humiliated at school, then committed suicide. Adam's parents sent the letter to the band, and he wanted the letter to be an inspiration for a song, since he felt like it was no reason of importance to anyone. Blink-182 made the song for the fan, but the ending is altered, saying that Adam survives. Greg Barnes, survivor and witness to the death of his best friend in the Columbine Massacre in 1999, hanged himself a year later while listening to the song. The band was very criticised after that which made Mark Hoppus finding a more "acceptable" explanation for the song.
