Bass cover of Feeling This by Blink-182. I already covered this song back in the day but decided it was time to rerecord it since the isolated bass track was on KZbin. I have a feeling that Mark may have used a capo on the second fret when recording this since it sounds like there are a lot of open B string hits. I believe he also used a Fender VI for the chorus and played power chords, but I didn't want to add a second bass track so I just added a chorus effect. Enjoy!

Everyone loves Carousel and Mutt but this is probably my favorite MH bassline. It's very bouncy and ridiculously fun to play. It's one of the basslines I automatically default to every time I pick up a bass.

Damn, that’s a hard one. For me full length carousel is my favourite to play but this is definitely the most musical out of the three

I've got a few things. First your picking technique is so good I couldn't stop focusing on it. Perfect cover. Second that is a beautiful bass, love a fender with block inlays. third i just saw the news that Hoppus is being treated for cancer, hope he can pull through. One of the first bassists I loved when I started playing bass as a young kid

Bro, great cover. But OMG that fuckin bass is so sick!!! I love how you have the standard P bass pick up's and you have an Ernie Ball Music Man String Ray humbucker on the bridge. The best of all worlds!!!! I suddenly feel inspired to do something like this!!!! Fuckin' Niiiiice Man!!!
@MyBassistChris

Thank you! I rarely found myself using the J pickup and always felt it was too weak to use on its own. Even though I don't regularly use the MM Humbucker, I love having the option to blend the pickups. If you're looking for an affordable version of this configuration the Harley Benton Enhanced basses are the way to go. If you like modding your basses I think this mod should be pretty straight forward too!

I know Tom sometimes tuned to Drop D with a capo on the second fret. It's possible Mark did that too
@MyBassistChris
@MyBassistChris 2 жыл бұрын
It could be very possible! However for this song what's interesting is that in the isolated back track it sounds like the B is an open note, hence I think Mark is using a capo on the second fret for the verses riff.

@MyBassistChris
@MyBassistChris 3 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely confirmed he uses a capo on I Miss You! Just hard to tell with this one since he plays a simplified version of this song live plus there is a low E in the chorus, but it does sure sound like a lot of open B notes in the isolated bass track.

Great cover🤟🏻 could you make a video how you add tabs to the video ?
@MyBassistChris
@MyBassistChris 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Hmm not sure if I'll make a tutorial video but here's my process: -Create tab on GuitarPro and then change the view to horizontal mode -Open QuickTime player and choose screen recording. Adjust screen recording size to the tab. -Press play on the GuitarPro tab. This will automatically scroll for you so no adjustments needed, just make sure to stop the screen recording when the tab completes -Edit the screen recording over your cover Hope this helps!

@@erlendglomsvoll7487 I write my own tabs from scratch. When I first start making covers I posted them all on Ultimate Guitar but they would reject my tabs occasionally so I decided to make my own site for bass tabs.

Good catch! There are actually two bass tracks in this song: The bass guitar is playing the root notes and then a Bass VI in the chorus that plays the chords. I don't have a Bass VI so I wasn't able to play it.

Thanks! I listened to the isolated track multiple times and I hear both single notes and chords. Those bass chords are a little too muddy that low, what i think they have in the record is the bass track holding the root notes and then a Fender Bass VI doing the power chords over it with the chorus effect. I know Hoppus was known for using the Bass VI on the self-titled album, but we won't actually know unless stems are released.

He's not a virtuoso. But extremely underated. Mark and Tom are. They have a connection to melody and contrast that does really exist anywhere in top 40 rock. And much of what Mark plays can get lost in the mix. Or, he's simply added and elaborated on his lines as he grows without ever trying to overshadow his band mates. When like Tool, Radiohead, Grateful Dead fans resort to the Green Day, Blink, and NOFX etc sucks to make the point all punk sucks, it's like you sound ridiculous to make . A. These in many cases are songs written by teenagers lol. B. I'm not a NOFX fan I'm 38. I listened to them in middleschool. But Far Mike shits on those bands on bass while also singing, and totally shit faced. C. Travis shit on those bands and any other commonly named bullshit rock band people think is better before he was twenty and only got better. D. Tom and Mark mastered contrast sharing vocals on dude ranch. And have a understanding of melody and layering those bands couldn't gain in a lifetime. Without ever overshadowing eachother. Enema isn't great. But Dammit? That songs opening riff should be studied and there should be great scholarship on it. It's up there with Guns & Roses intros. While certainly not being as technical. It grabs you and issues marching orders immediately. Shits on Smells Like Teen Spirit. I've been obsessed with it my entire life. And Green Day I don't have much to say about as far as musical chops. I'll immediately digress on that. They're significance is cultural. They're as important as Ian MacKaye. With just one song they changed the word and we're all here talking about punk because of them. Without them punk becomes extremely niche like jazz or classical. Every punk 40 or younger can attribute our entire lives to hearing Basket Case on the radio. Hearing that snotty voice open the song up and right there and then knowing your life's calling. Especially with the alternative Derek that was on the radio. You'd strip the dials on yer radio trying to find something anything. Something that wasn't super depressing or super corny. When Greenday came out you left your radio dial alone. You sat through all the bullshit grunge and alternative cause you knew you were going to get Basket Case or when I come around. Older punks hated them. I remember. They were not happy about Greenday. But if you were in third grade you just weren't trying to hear their shit. They'd give me Ramones, Bad Brains, and Black Flag tapes. I like these bands now. Have since highschool. But at that moment it was like nah bro. I wanna hear that Greenday joint. No alternative or rock band I don't think ever can be said to had saved and single handedly blown up an entire culture. A culture that has perhaps more to do with everyone in the worlds day to day experience then any other culture. Only hip-hop is more culturally relevant. Almost any band or member of a band cut their teeth learning songs through punk. Your favorite artists are punks. All this graffiti and street art is done by punks. Our protest culture while certainly leaning hip-hop now was carried by punks for decades. Nobody listens to Tool or Metallica and thinks to themselves let's go organize and smash some state.
