Not to mention that Eliza (the game and the AI) are named for the first well-known chatbot, a pseudotherapist that managed to sound very deep by repeating and rephrasing anything said to it. Not sure if that adds a layer to your interpretation, but here we are.

Yeah! I'm good. I just meant that like, I'm at that age where college friends or whatever have all left town. When I was in my early 20's we'd be playing Rock Band and hanging out every weekend. Now they've all got kids, or their careers have taken them away from here. Hangouts are done by schedule if at all, and that's with the handful of people I still know in the area. And since I don't have kids of my own, and my wife doesn't really play games as such, I don't have anyone to couch co-op with.

I'm in an interesting place with Nauticrawl. I seem to have naturally adapted to the game's systems, since after a couple deaths right at the front gate, I actually ended up learning all the things you described and *more* in a single run! The game even has a way to exploit the systems it has for potentially infinite resources, at least in the first zone (assuming there are indeed multiple zones) and all it took was looting a certain thing early on and a bit of bravery with how to use the mechanics. Buuuuut also the game runs like tar on my laptop and it's soooo slow to do anything, especially when that involves fine-tuning fuel intake and engine power valves that seem granular to the point of single digits at a time, and this makes it hard to go back to the game where just doing what I did before would likely be a slog of at least two hours, and if anything causes the engine to fail at any point, the game runs too slowly to easily fix the problem too. Still, that's a problem on my end, and I'm very glad this game exists. :)

Hey, Chris, have you played 'Objects in Space?' Considering what you said about your love for simulation games, it a space sim that's kind of similar to Nauticrawl. It blends nihilistic post-capitalist dread with an eerie modem punk style that makes you feel at once claustrophobic and megalophobic. It's not just that your a small fish in an endless ocean, but more like your a pet goldfish that was thrown into that ocean while it was still in its bag from the pet store. It's inescapably flawed, but its uncomfortable presentation of space and your incidental existence within that space is haunting in ways that I think make the game work.

For the record, a much simpler approach to a similar concept as that last game is CAPSULE. My recommendation: As soon as you unlock/can switch to the control mode that takes you to the beat instantly rather than having to "lean" in either direction, do that. It's probably less faithful to the game's intent, but it is *so* much more playable when just tapping three buttons to the beat rather than "leaning" in either direction and tapping an action button. But maybe that's just me!
