The opening alone is enough to stop all the hurt of the day and overwhelm me with peace.

The way he used chords is just amazing. He is by far one of the best composers of today.
@ginasmith32359 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree with you 100%!!! All of his music is ao moving. You can feel the emotion and see the picture he saw composing this music. Its so beautiful. The "selah" moments in this piece to allow you to ponder on the picture painted through the chords/harmonies are breath taking. Im a huge fan of eric Whitacre and always will be!!! The harmonious genius composer of his time.
@OneForTheDollyBirds7 жыл бұрын
Not just chords, but "tensions" also (i.e., harmonic tensions), and how the chords and tensions of his choice are actually played (i.e., "voiced," not to be confused with the use of human voices for the implementation of those "voicings," though clearly, human voices are the best choice because they are a complex string timbre that handles dissonance very, very well). Eric has GREAT MUSICAL TASTE and the know-how to implement it. His choice to write diatonic music (i.e., music that follows "keys") also has something to do with the magic that his music exudes.

This version is 10x better in my opinion. The voices not being covered by ugly dub step really makes this piece more meaningful to me.
@diegochavezisntmanam9 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Norcia the Dubstep wasnt too beautiful too be honest, but I do admit that Im okay with it because it helps give the voices more of a dynamic shape. The crescendo in the dubstep track made the "big hit" sound epic. The music also helped covering up the holes in the music.

Very cool. I really think the dub-steppy electronic music covered up too much of the choral sound. Don't get me wrong, I love electronic music, but in this piece it felt out of place in my opinion.
@SpacyCV11 жыл бұрын
You're right, but in some ways it almost feels like they are two different songs, if that makes any sense.
@deckjacobson423011 жыл бұрын
I think the only reason it sounded electronic-y is because Peter Hollens had to raise the pitch of his voice on a computer in order to sing the soprano notes. Plus, this is a training track for those who want to sing it in the virtual choir.

To me it is as if it is a modern Gregorian Chant. Some of you might not agree, but I mean it as a deep compliment when I say, like Crosby, StIll and Nash, and the Beach Boy’s Brian Wilson could lift you out of pop into “God only Knows” and “Good Vibrations” with straight-forward harmony, his secular structure reaches the heavens.
