I feel like a part of the idea behind the plate vest is highlighting how the runway process itself creates and embellishes the pieces with value. That vest, by being on a runway model at a fashion show, is inscribed with tons of meaning, that the broken plates themselves probably wouldn't have in other contexts.
@ledgebound94155 жыл бұрын
Amazing and thorough video as I expected after the first one. To add onto the craziness that is the classic jacket: The seam that connects the lapel and collar is inverted and the rest isn't. Which is quite an annoying thing to accomplish.

Your research insight and presentation are phenomenal. I'm just working through these vids. Margiela has always confounded me. I used to sell the mens clothing but it was hard to shift. Pockets of fans in bizarre places. I had a pile of the '0' '10' but it has dwindled, always a regret. Broken plates calls up the artist Tony Cragg, maybe also Mark Dion and some of the sculptors taking on radical materialism
@LaurenRaaijmakers3 жыл бұрын
The broken plate vest reminds me of mummy nets. It is a net made out of beads and amulets to be placed directly on the mummy after the coffins fell out of fashion. Also broken plates & pottery are very popular with archeologists.

There is such a funny story with that one! About six years ago, Disney created that design and released it at the Florida Walt Disney World Park. There were tons of headlines that got released that same day basically saying “what the fuck is this?“ Disney realized that Joy Division doesn’t really align with their brand in anyway and pulled the shirts the same day 😂😭 Since then, that design has kind of become a legend among a certain kind of T-shirt collector. I had looked to find an original version for years and could never get one. So I broke down and bought a fake reprint of it. The quality of that T-shirt is honestly horrible, I wish I hadn’t bought it. But it was funny and I wanted to wear it for at least one video 🤪
