About Today's news from Bloomberg News:
Warner Bros. Games is facing major challenges after a disastrous year filled with game cancellations, leadership shakeups, and financial losses. In January, David Haddad, head of the struggling video game division, stepped down-something many insiders saw coming. But the real question is: what happens next?
🔴 The Fallout:
👉 A $200 million writedown on The Squad Game
👉 Another $100 million loss from Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions and MultiVersus
👉 Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav admits their gaming division is underperforming
🔴 What’s Next for WB Games?
With legendary franchises like Batman, The Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones, Warner Bros. should be competing with giants like EA and Take-Two. But instead, they’re left scrambling with no major releases besides a re-release of Hogwarts Legacy, a LEGO game, and some mobile projects.
🔴 Wonder Woman Game in Trouble?
WB’s upcoming Wonder Woman game has already cost over $100 million and was rebooted last year. Now, reports suggest it's still years away from release-if it ever comes out at all.
🔴 Studios in Crisis:
1️⃣ Monolith Productions (Shadow of Mordor) lost key talent after WB forced them to scrap their original game concepts.
WB Games Montreal (Gotham Knights) had multiple canceled projects, including a Constantine game and a Flash game (which was scrapped after the movie flopped). Now, much of its leadership has resigned.
2️⃣With WB Games scaling back its output and focusing on just a few key franchises, the future of its studios remains uncertain. Will the company bounce back, or is this the beginning of the end for Warner Bros. Games?

About Batman Arkham Series:
The Batman: Arkham series is one of the most influential superhero video game franchises, developed primarily by Rocksteady Studios and WB Games Montréal. Known for its groundbreaking combat system, compelling storytelling, and deep respect for Batman’s lore, the series consists of multiple mainline games and spin-offs.
Main Games in the Arkham Series
Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009) - The game that started it all. Batman is trapped inside Arkham Asylum after Joker takes control, unleashing Gotham’s worst criminals. This game introduced the now-iconic "Freeflow" combat system and a mix of stealth, detective work, and Metroidvania-style exploration.
Batman: Arkham City (2011) - Considered by many to be the best in the series, it expands into an open-world setting where Batman is forced to navigate the lawless streets of Arkham City, a walled-off section of Gotham that houses the city’s criminals. It features Hugo Strange, Joker, Ra’s al Ghul, and more.
Batman: Arkham Origins (2013) - A prequel set years before Asylum, developed by WB Games Montréal instead of Rocksteady. It focuses on a younger, more aggressive Batman who must survive a night of assassination attempts from villains like Deathstroke, Bane, and Black Mask. While not as critically acclaimed as the Rocksteady entries, it has a cult following.
Batman: Arkham Knight (2015) - The final installment in Rocksteady’s trilogy, featuring a fully explorable Gotham City, the controversial Batmobile gameplay, and the introduction of the Arkham Knight, a new character tied to Batman’s past. The game wraps up Bruce Wayne’s story in a dramatic way.
Spin-Offs & Related Titles
Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate (2013) - A 2.5D side-scrolling game set after Origins.
Batman: Arkham VR (2016) - A short VR experience where players take on the role of Batman in a murder investigation.
The Squad: Kill the Justice League (2024) - A live-service game set in the Arkhamverse but focused on the Squad instead of Batman. The game received negative reception due to its live-service mechanics and lack of a proper Batman-focused sequel.
