I bought a 2019 giant defy a3 and it's hands down the most comfortable road bike I've ridden. Feels like I could ride forever without discomfort. I'm sure the 2020 is even better. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Tony, how's the handling etc? Is this bike still good for fast riding and racing? I usually ride more race geometries. Thanks

@@blkbelttony I actually have a TCR but have been experiencing speed wobble on it, something I haven't had on other race bikes. I thought maybe with the Defy's longer wheelbase and shorter reach it would hopefully feel more stable on descents. At the same time I don't want to sacrifice lightweight, sharp handling, climbing performance etc. Would the Defy still offer these things?
@charlesgraham-dixon2637

@@charlesgraham-dixon2637 I'd get that bike checked out. I currently own a new tcr and have had a few before and rode at least a dozen others and never felt a wobble at speeds. I've topped out over 50 mph on a few bikes. That said... the defy is better on those fast downhills. The 32c tires feel planted and the brakes work flawlessly

I tested the Defy a few times but I felt it was way too similar feel & ride position to my carbon xtc 29 Hardtail, so went with the TCR to have more distinction between the bikes. I'm 6ft 6 so the long reach & position of the TCR suited me , but I imagine for a lot of people it's significantly comfier to ride the defy. Depends if you want Endurance (Defy) or Race (TCR)

twowheeltony: well, actually I have.. I am doubting because of the more ‘comfort’ position on the bike, as I come from a more agressive race bike.. Do you think that there’s a big difference? And if so, is there still some adjusting possible via the spacers?
@blkbelttony
@blkbelttony 5 жыл бұрын
@@SD-ec5ge well of course you can always slam the stem. It's not going to be as low as a race bike, but that's kind of the point with this bike. But like I said. I'm still holding the same speeds on the straights. The smoothness lj eas you maintain your speeds while harder riding bikes tend to lose tire contact to the ground. A.x also keep in mind that the racing teams like ccc and sunweb last year all use the defy on the bumpier segments of a race. For me it cane down to where and what kind of riding am I doing most. The defy was the right answer.

@blkbelttony
@blkbelttony 4 жыл бұрын
Congratulations. Yes, the brakes need to break in. Do a couple of fast hard stops to bed in the pads. As far as pressure in the tires. I run around 55 to 58 psi. But remember. That all depends on your weight and where you are riding. Im mostly city riding on my defy.

I have to clarify with him before I do the deal but interested in a bit of back up. I could probably contact Giant's customer service. Hot bike, enjoy! Stay safe.

Your height is ok for a medium. But its your foot size i would look into. Im 5"11"" and m/l is fine. I would put 100mm stem on my bike if I had one. That said. @@mthrizzle707 being i still own a 2020 defy and the new 21 tcr I'd pick the tcr. But thats me. True it is very comfortable for a race bike. You definitely need to look at both bikes and ride them before you decide. I can only tell you based on my experience with both in relevance to what's comfortable to me. But this might help too. If you buy a disk brake version tcr you can mount up to 32c tires on it. That would make it an entirely different bike. But on the other hand,, the defy can go bigger 35c and become a gravel bike.

Why Giant design the back of seatpost flat? Thx
@blkbelttony

It's called the " D-fuse" design. The flat part allows it to flex back to help absorb small bumps and vibrations

@@ChiccoMusic12 I would not. I also have the revolt gravel bike. If I had to choose between them both I'd go revolt all day long fir versatility. It's not as sleek looking as a defy, but safer for gravel and you can always do road with it

Have you used it to do some gravel route? If yes what does it feels?
@blkbelttony
@blkbelttony 5 жыл бұрын
I personally only used it one time over a gravel farm road. It felt just fine. I also have a revolt advanced gravel bike so I wouldn't normally take the defy out for that, but that being said. Check out my other videos. My hood friend has a 2019 defy with 28c tires and used it for a gravel day. Since then he has picked up a spare set of wheels with 32c knobby tires .

Hey Tony. Totally anal-retentive question. Those bar end plugs. Are they stock? or if not, what are they? The ones that come on my Defy Advanced 2 are chintzy, ha! These look better. I know, dude, too much free time! Cheers.
@blkbelttony
@blkbelttony 4 жыл бұрын
Good eye. Yes, I changed mine. I never use push in style plugs. They always fall out. These are made by all city. But there are so many brands that make these. The easiest ones to find are supercaz. If you are going to replace your bar with tape it will come with them, if not you can just order ends in many colors. These work like a concrete anchor. Tighten the screw and it expands inside the bar to secure.

This is actually an endurance bike. Giant wasn't looking to make the lightest bike possible. They wanted it to feel solid and ride smooth. My tcr of the same size came in at 16.3 lbs. I could have dropped another pound with lighter parts

twowheeltony I know it’s an endurance bike. I’m looking to sell my Cannondale Caad12 and buy a Giant TCR, but they’re all heavier than my 4yr old rim brake aluminum bike. Discs aren’t worth the extra weight especially when you pay thousands of dollars for a whole load of extra weight. Even the rim brake versions are similar in weight to what I already have, so I think I’ll stick with what I have.
